Who else loves a bright lipstick? No nude tones for me. MAYBE if I’m at the lake, but otherwise, I say go big or go home! So how to choose the best bright lipsticks that suit mature skin? When choosing lipsticks for mature skin, it’s all about formulas that hydrate, don’t bleed, and enhance your natural glow without settling into fine lines.

My Summer Go-To Lipstick Formula

Tania Stephens using her favorite Spring lipsticks from Merit Beauty

I like to change my lipstick colors frequently. However, I’ve been using this trio for about a month, and I have no desire to change it anytime soon. I’m using Merit Beauty’s Signature Lip Liner in the color Coupe. Then, I use Signature Lip Lightweight Lipstick, a satin, extremely creamy lipstick, and finish with Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil in Pointelle for added sheen. Merit is a clean beauty company, and I’ve been slowly incorporating more of their products into my routine.

Women Over 50 Look Great In Red Lipstick

Fashion Blogger, Tania Stephens is wearing red lipstain from Chanel-1
Chanel Lipstain – Daring Red

This lipstain might be the only thing from Chanel that I’ve ever bought, but I’m sure happy with my purchase. I’ve worn Chanel Lipstains for years, and I’ve not found one I like better. Lipstains can be drying, but this one comes with duo ends one for the stain and one for a clear gloss. The colors I wear on repeat from Chanel are Daring Red, Sensual Rose, and Light Mauve. I use the Light Mauve one to sometimes tone down the Daring Red or Sensual Rose for a muted look. Just apply it before the first color dries.

Let’s go shade by shade…

Estée Lauder Pure Color Lipstick

This one’s pure elegance in a tube, Gurl. The formula is creamy, moisturizing, and doesn’t feather — even if you’ve got those fine little smile lines like I do (thanks, life!). The satin finish gives just the right pop to brighten your complexion, especially in photos.

Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Drama Ink – French Touch

If red lipstick makes you feel like a movie star, this one’s your ticket. It’s a liquid formula but feels weightless, almost like nothing on your lips. The semi-matte finish is soft and flattering — and best of all, it stays put through lunch, grandbaby kisses, and even a surprise trip to Walmart. ha! This is the bold red that works on mature lips without settling into lines.

MAC Lustreglass Lipstick – Lady Bug

This lipstick is light, buildable, and always flattering. It gives a natural shine that makes thinning lips look a little fuller (we love that!). I like Lady Bug for a soft daytime red and PDA for a little glam. Toss one in your purse and you’re ready for anything — even if that “anything” is just picking up dry cleaning.

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer – Cherry Pop

Now Gurl, this is a smoothing miracle for drier lips. The built-in primer means the color goes on silky without clinging to texture or dryness. I love how bold the colors are — Cherry Pop is such a happy red! This one’s ideal for everyday wear and special occasions alike.

Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick – Velvet Underground

Y’all know how much I love my Charlotte Tilbury! This shade is that perfect fuchsia pink. It’s hydrating, super flattering for older women, and those light-diffusing pigments really do make lips look smoother. This is a treat-yourself lipstick.

L’Oréal Age Perfect Satin Lipstick – Radiant Red

Specifically made for mature lips? Yes, please! This one is loaded with nourishing serum and gives you color without that tight, dry feeling some matte lipsticks have. Radiant Red is a great classic, but I love Spring Coral for warm summer days. It goes beautifully with bronzer and hoop earrings, – you know the vibe.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick – Fire & Ice

These shades are iconic for a reason. They’re bright, bold, and that formula is smooth as silk. Budget-friendly but never boring, and the moisture-rich texture glides over lips like butter. If you want to start wearing red lipstick again but feel a little nervous, Fire & Ice is a great “starter bold.”

Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color – Punch

Bobbi Brown knows mature skin! This is that soft blotted look all the cool girls wear — but with enough hydration for us Gurls. It feels like a stain but with way more comfort and color payoff. Not a bad price for a designer lipstick!

IT Cosmetics Pillow Lips Solid Serum –

I love that IT cosmetics isn’t just for foundation! This lip serum is part balm, part color, and 100% comfort. Self-Determined is a bright berry pink that adds just enough color to perk up your face without shouting. And it plumps without any tingling (thank goodness — no more burning lip potions!).

So Gurl, whether you’re into berry, coral, pinks, or a sassy red, there’s a bright lip here for you. These are the Best Bright Lipsticks for Mature Skin — made to hydrate, smooth, and flatter without fuss. Don’t let wrinkles stop you from rocking bold lips. Go out there and smile like you mean it. 💄

😊 I am a Mac and Clinique lipstick fan. I love the berry shades most. Never have worn red, but never say never 🤣!

  2. 😀I love bold colors, my go to bolds are in the berry and plum shades. Your selections are great!

  3. 😊the Merit lip
    Oil is my favorite!!

  4. Found it! Nice lipstick shades.

  5. That Chanel product is amazing and in my opinion it’s worth every penny. It LASTS and a little goes a long way. I don”t particularly care for their gloss as I find it to be a bit sticky (I prefer a smooth gloss). My go to would be just a basic colorless lip balm over the stain – it looks very natural!

  6. 🙂 Found a new lipstick, thank you!

  7. Cynthia C. says:

🙂 Found it! I am interested in lipsticks that are long lasting.

I love a pretty red lip. And I love the way people react to me. Perception is that I get a lot more smiles.

  19. 😊 I’m usually wearing pink and mauve. Might have to get out of my comfort zone.

  20. Stella Gustafson says:

😃Who else remembers the little Avon lipsticks samples? I wish they made them now so we could try on some of the colors that you showed I love some of the reds, but I don’t know how they look on me.

  21. 😀. Love Estée Lauder lipsticks!

  22. 🙂 I normally am a nude color fan of lipstick. When dressing up, I will use more color.

  23. Deborah M says:

:). Haven’t worn red lipstick in a long time. Usually stick with a deep pink. Thanks for all the great ideas.

  24. You can wear almost any lipstick color well. As a redhead, I have a more difficult time. I look best in a pinky mauve color and I like a moisture rich lipstick with a almost glossy finish. 🙂 Found it!

  25. Janis Hill says:

    Thank you. 🙂
I believe Charlotte Tilbury is just what I’ve been looking for!

  26. 🙂 I just bought a new tube, but can we ever have too many lipsticks??? I’m going to try one of satin or a little shine!

  27. Leslie Daulton says:

😀 unfortunately red does not look good on me. even the ones that are supposed to look good on everybody. instead, my red is a reddish brown or earthy red.

  28. 🙂 You know Merit products seem to becoming very popular! Their colors are very appeal. I love that they have a lipliner

    Rhonda S

    1. No, I haven’t. I’ll check that out.

  31. Carolyn (petite) says:

My go to bold color is coral. I also like brick red… the color can be deep but muted, not bright.

  32. 🙂 While I like red lipstick on others, it is not great on me. I tend to go for the mauve colors. Love the black dress in one of your pictures.

  33. 😊I am an IT girl but I think I’d like to try the Chanel lipstick!

  34. Found it. My favorite lipsticks are from Clinique. I’m a lifelong fan of their makeup.

  35. Popped on to say I LOVE Chanel lip-stain as well! I have strawberry red and a soft rose. As an add on, Chanel is my favorite mascara! Those are the only 2 Chanel products I use. 💄 👀

  36. Thank you for the wonderful red color choices.

  37. Found it. Chanel post😊

  38. 🙂 I never was one for wearing lipstick but now that I am older I notice how faded and thin my lips look. I usually use just a tinted lip gloss but those don’t last long. Thanks for all the tips!

  39. Charlotte Whetstone says:

    🙂 I like Taylor Swift’s red!

  40. 😀 I have trd hair so .it reds do not look good on me.
    Thanks for the post.

  41. Sonja Allen says:

🙂 I’m pretty much a pink lipstick gal.

  42. Pretty colors but I’m more of a neutral color person. 😊

  43. 😊 the old saying goes when it comes to bold red lipstick colors- don’t let your lips enter the room first ! the red colors are too loud speaking for me and for a lot of other women I see everyday trying too hard to be trendy. There needs to be a balance in hair color, complexion, and lipstick color-this takes a lot of experimenting to find the right balance. I really liked the pink/coral lip color best!

  44. My favorite “go BOLD or go home” lipstick is NARS Dragon Girl it’s a pencil but it looks good on everybody. It’s the perfect shade of RED!

  45. 🙂 found it. I have auburn hair so I find that neutral shades are best for me. But I do think reds look good on other ladies.

  46. Patt Dyal says:

😀I love red lipstick but it gets all over my face!!! I set it with powder and still see it on my chin or fingers. I use the steps you shared some time ago. Obviously, I must touch my mouth way too much.🤦🏼‍♀️

    1. You must have oily skin. Try setting powder on your face as well as your lips. Then, use a setting spray at the end to hopefully keep the powder in place.

  47. Susan E Can says:

😊 I have tried so many shades of red lip color. I think I may need a lesson on how to apply it. LOL I’m better with neutral shades. Thanks for the various suggestions.

  48. 😊 Pretty colors, but not for me. I prefer lighter ones.

  49. I’ve worn mauve tones for many years. I feel like I need a new shade/color lipstick and am not sure what the easiest way to shop for it is. Do I try a color, wear it for a day in different lighting? This could take a while to find the right shade. 🙂

Do you have any suggestions on an easier, less time consuming way to shop for lip color?

  50. 🙂 I’m a mauve type gurl. I’d rather have the focus on my eyes and keep my lips a little more subdued.

  51. 😀 thanks for the suggestions. I tend to avoid red but now I have some choices.

  52. Dorothy Kennedy says:

🙂 I am still using the city lips you featured last year ,I love it. Maybe I will try something new!

  53. Karen Gunter says:

I love lip stains. I’ll have to try some of these. 🙂

  54. 🙂 Not a lipstick gal, but my 92 year old MIL still rocks the red lipstick and my mom wore it in her younger years. I am more a natural color gal and then only lip gloss type. But all you who love it, go for it!!

  55. I love bright bold lipsticks. Charlotte Tilbury is one of my favorites. You should try Color the World. They are vegan/cruelty free natural lipsticks. This brand stays on longer and doesn’t bleed. Also they give 10% of their profits to various charities.

  56. 🙂 Love bold lip color. Lip liner is the key!!!

  57. Love me some lipstick, too, even to the dry cleaners! 🙂
Thank you for some great options!
    Blessings, 🙂

  58. Elizabeth Tobin says:

😊I treated my self to Charlotte Tillbury lipstick and love it. I’m curious about the IT Cosmetics formula. I’m also a regular user of L’Oreal lipsticks. Thanks for showing some new colors to check out.

  59. 😊Lot’s of good lip color choices. I like the lighter tones.

  60. Nancy Darden says:

    : ) I’m a gloss girl.

  61. Found it. I am just starting to wear lip color.

  62. 🙂 Found it!!! Really like the colors. Specially the Estée Lauder Pure Color Lipstick, it doesn’t say what color it is, but I really like it.

  63. Gail Medeiros says:

    😊Great suggestions

  64. 😀 Purchasing lipstick colors is always a puzzle. This information helps.

  65. 😊 These are pretty lipsticks! I love lipstick and I usually put it on when going out, even just to Walmart! I think nude tones have their place but usually I like something brighter.

  66. Carol Ann Jablonski says:

🙂 Gee, just when I was beginning to like Clinique’s Pink Honey (which is the lightest I’ve ever gone except for those white “go-go lips” of the late 60’s), you haul out the red lips. Red could be a whole ‘nother post: orange-red vs blue-red.

  67. FOUND IT! 🙂 I am more of the pretty shades of pinks.

  68. 😉 My mother wore Revlon Cherries in the Snow. She started wearing it in high school in the 1940’s. It was her signature color.

  69. 🙂 You look great in bright lipsticks but the bold colors just don’t work for me.

  70. 😊Love Clinique lipsticks but not sure I could pull off such a bright color!

  71. 😀 my lips seem to have lost their color & moisture!

  72. Kathy Laweryson says:

    found it!

I like your lip color and shine in the first picture. My lips are thin and I am trying to find a pretty lip plumping gloss.

  73. 🙂 I love color too! MAC is my fav.

  74. 😊
I don’t do red, but rather lean towards berry, pinks and mauve.
My problem is it doesn’t seem to last long and I hate taking time to reapply.

  75. Found it 🙂 The It Self Determined is a pretty color.

  76. 🙂 I need to get back to my bold/ bolder lip colors. I always keep a Revlon Cherries in the Snow, in my makeup collection, I just need to start using it instead of the current nudes. Have a blessed week!

  77. You look inspiring in your lip colors!

  78. 😊Tania, I am definitely a bold lipstick chic. I wear lots of pinks, reds and some coral. I need a new red color. I need to check out the Clinique, LO’Real and Revlon ones that you posted. I struggle a little with the red color bleeding.
    ~Lisa~

  79. 😀! I wear lipstick everyday the challenge I have is, I have to keep reapplying it often throughout the day

  80. No reds for me very very bold

  81. 🙂 The Estee’ Lauder pink looks so pretty!
