Who’s ready for summer?! Long time readers know that I love the lake and/or beach, so I’m excited for the water temp to rise enough for swimming. One thing I don’t love about summer – cracked, dry lips. If you’ve ever come home from a sunny day with dry lips, or worse, a little sunburn on your pout, you know that lip protection is no joke. Especially after 50, when our skin (yes, even on our lips) needs more hydration and care. I’ve rounded up my favorite lip balms with spf that actually work.

These products do more than just coat your lips, they actually moisturize, feel good, and offer real sun protection. These are the balms that live in my purse, my beach bag, and right by the back door (because, you never know). Let’s get into the top picks that protect, hydrate, and stay put.

The Best Lip Balms With SPF That Actually Work

Sun Bum Lip Balm

This three-pack is my go-to when I want a little fun with my sun protection. You get coconut, banana, and watermelon flavors that taste like summer but don’t feel sticky or waxy. These balms are packed with aloe vera and vitamin E for added moisture and offer broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. They’re vegan and cruelty-free, win/win!

Banana Boat Sport

For serious sun days, think beach trips or gardening marathons, this balm means business. With SPF 50, it’s one of the strongest on the list and still manages to glide on smooth. It’s water-resistant and doesn’t melt or slide off in the heat. I like keeping one in the car and one in my workout bag.

Aquaphor Lip Protectant

You know I love a multitasker, and this one fits the bill. Aquaphor’s formula combines healing moisture with solid SPF protection. It’s fragrance-free and has a soft ointment texture that really coats and protects dry lips. If your lips are feeling extra sensitive or chapped, this one’s a lifesaver.

Chapstick 2 In 1

Sometimes the classics are classic for a reason. ChapStick’s original formula with SPF 15 is reliable, easy to find, and very budget-friendly. It’s got a smooth feel and helps keep lips from drying out in the wind or sun. Perfect for everyday use when you’re just running errands or going for a walk. Amazon reviews are through the roof on this oldie but goodie!

Jack Black Intense Therapy

If you want something ultra-moisturizing with a hint of minty coolness, this one’s for you. Jack Black’s formula has shea butter, avocado oil, and antioxidants, all wrapped up in a balm with SPF 25. It’s one of the more luxe-feeling options and absolutely worth the hype. Great for both men and women.

SuperGoop Lip Balm 30 SPF

This is one of my favorites! It’s lightweight, hydrating, and full of skin-loving ingredients like honey, shea butter, and sunflower seed oil. The mint gives a refreshing kick without overpowering. Supergoop knows sunscreen, and this balm is no exception—great sun protection with a soft finish.

Panama Jack Flavor Pack

Anyone else associate Panama Jack with vacations with the family? This flavor pack is fun and functional. With SPF 45 and options like Dreamsicle, Vanilla, and Tropical Mango, these feel like a dessert tray in a tube. The formula is water-resistant and offers broad-spectrum sun protection, making it perfect for pool days or beach walks.

Revlon Kiss

This tinted balm gives you color, shine, and protection all in one swipe! It’s hydrating, comes in several fun shades like Berry Burst, and is infused with natural fruit oils. This is great when you want a bit of color, but need SPF and protection that regular lipsticks don’t offer.

Neutrogena Gloss

If you love a glossy finish, this balm is for you. It hydrates with glycerin, soothes with cucumber, and protects with SPF 20. It’s not sticky and adds a soft tint that pairs well with natural makeup or no-makeup days. You can even layer this over lipstick for a little extra shine and protection.

Keeping your lips protected from the sun is just as important as protecting your face and neck, especially as we get older, when moisture loss and sun damage can be more noticeable. These SPF lip balms are packed with nourishing active ingredients, broad spectrum sun protection, and come in formulas that actually feel good on your lips. Whether you like a classic balm, a glossy tint, or something with a beachy vibe, there’s something here for every lip and lifestyle. So go ahead, Gurls—grab your favorite and give those lips the protection they deserve!

19 See, I am doing a new thing!

I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.

I’ve been using the original Banana Boat lip sunscreen year-round for over 30 years! There is ALWAYS a bright green tube of Banana Boat lip screen in my purse, my car, and the pocket of just about any jacket, jeans, or shorts I’m wearing! (The “ultra sport” version in the orange tube is also good.)

🙂 Me, I’m fussy about my lip balm. Flavors will be chewed off because they taste so good. It all depends on how they feel/smell/taste. The same goes for lipstick. My old reliable lip balm is Blistex. I have them all over the house and a supply ready to be opened.

  37. Couldn’t find it. I learned the hard way to use lip sunscreen. After spending a month in Arizona, my lips got so raw. They did not get red or peel, but any time I ate spicy foods (which is a lot) my lips burned. I had used regular lip balm, but that did not prevent this. I thought I was having a bad reaction to medication. It took a couple a weeks at home for them to heal. I am not without it now. I use Banana Boat

  38. Couldn’t find it?:) Great lip suggestions!
