Gurls, with the holidays upon us, we’re on our feet constantly. We’re cooking and cleaning and decorating and shopping, and on and on we go. I’m tired just thinking about it. Whew. I don’t know if it’s true, but I feel like my energy level is directly related to how supportive my footwear is. That’s why I’m sharing a list of the best athletic shoes trending now with you. These are not only functional but VERY popular right now. Don’t forget to grab some socks, I did a post on those today, also.

I’ve been wearing Hoka’s for a couple of years. This pair is older, and I need to buy a new pair. I’m not a runner, but I have been working out and want to start moving more, even if only for a short walk. My friend, who is a runner, also swears by these, and her suggestion is to size up a half-size. I ordered a 9.5 instead of my normal size 9, and they fit great.

Hoka is known for making cushiony and light athletic shoes. These Kawana sneakers have what they call “Swallowtail™ heel geometry & an extended crash pad”. It’s a fancy way of saying it’s supposed to reduce impact. The cushiony comes from compression-molded EVA foam. I thought the cabernet color was gorgeous, but click the link to see other great options.

For my Gurls who love color! These running shoes are very light and EXTRA plush. Just looking at these makes me feel more energetic. I love this pink color, but there are a lot of options that are drop-dead gorgeous. I might even take up running in these things, lol.

Lululemon is known for its cute workout clothes and loungewear, but it also makes great athletic shoes. These are officially training shoes, which just means they are good for a variety of activities. Perfect! Cause we’ve got a variety of holiday activities to keep us busy. These run true to size, but if you want a wider shoe, size up a half size. Also available in other cute color combinations if you don’t like white.

These Lululemon sneakers feature a supportive knit upper that wraps around your foot for added stability. The reviews say that these are extremely comfortable and light. The knit upper stretches to allow your foot to slide into the shoe, but if you have issues with getting these types of shoes on, you may want a different version. These are available in several colors, including bone, black, and others.

I see On Cloud sneakers EVERYWHERE, on both men and women. They really are incredibly comfortable. I put on a pair while shopping at Nordstrom, and I understood the hype. These are officially running shoes, but you can have all kinds of adventures in these. Available in heather, gray, and black and white.

Can sneakers be chic? What else would you call these On Cloud sneakers?! Not only do they look great, but these would be perfect for women like my sister who need a wider toe box. I am also a fan of the speed laces. Who has time during the holidays to tie their shoes?! lol

This is the last brand I’m sharing with you today, but they are certainly not the least! Brooks has been around forever. Okay, since 1914. That means our grandmothers could have been rocking Brooks running shoes! Mine was more into high heels than sneakers, but I’m guessing she would have appreciated these beauties. This is the brand that my husband, Joe, swears by. He won’t wear anything else.

You can’t go wrong with a classic white sneaker. These look very similar to the first Lululemon pair I shared. The company may have been around since 1914, but these are definitely modern-day sneakers. They have a “breathable 3D fit print upper for a seamless fit.” 3D printed upper? It’s like shoes from the future, lol. I don’t understand the technology, but all I know is they are uber comfortable.

Gurls, don’t let sore and tired feet derail your plans. Get some comfortable sneakers and take care of yourself!

I must say I adore my New Balance running shoes and my HOKA all atheletic shoes!! I couldn’t live without them!! Please understand it’s not because I’m working out but because I’m on a walker and have a neurological desease that makes it difficult for me to walk heel to toe. These shoes help me emensley!!

  9. Shelly Hebert says:

I would like to add one more to the list, Tanya.
Gravity Defyer! This shoe is designed to relieve pressure on one’s knees, feet & back. It has a “spring “ like mechanism in the heel that propels you for forward as you walk. Best athletic shoes I have ever owned!
    Have a wonderful Christmas,
    Shelly Hebert

  12. My feet have finally reached the age that I can’t just run into a store and pick up a cheap pair of sneakers. Thank you for sharing these choices.

  13. Diane Southard says:

    I like the pink ones!

  14. I love my On Clouds! Best shoes ever!

  15. I wear Saucony for cardio dance (lots of sideways movement) and now need to find court shoes for pickleball. I’d love another post from you on shoes for other specific uses.

  17. Love the supportive and very stylish. Thank you.

  18. I’m with you on the Hokas; mine are a lifesaver! I want to try ON, though, so thanks for sharing these. Merry Christmas to you, Joe and your family!

  19. I love my Hoka’s after my knee replacement the surgeon recommended them I have worn them now for 5 years! I have several pairs in several different colors!

  20. Nope! We don’t like to go out after dark either. And I’m with Joe. I like Brooks better than Hoka.
I’m also a fan of On and Ecco.

  21. I need to ask Santa for some Hokas!

  22. Thank you for your post on athletic sneakers. I’m a previous runner and need to get back into it! I’ve learned, the hard way, it is imperative to buy a good pair of running/walking
sneakers. I went so long with adding insoles, countless band aids, and blisters, so once I found what work, it became something I enjoyed, rather than dredging it.

  23. Interesting selection. I notice so many have the thick chunky sole of the shoe. Not sure I am a fan of that look on an older woman haha. I wear Ryka’s consistently for dance aerobics and love them. Brooks for everyday.

    1. Penny Jo, the thick, platform sole shoes are what’s trending. I love trying to keep all my followers informed about the latest styles.

  24. Sherry Sousa says:

I just bought the Maybelline lip liner you liked and I can’t wait to try it! Thank you for all your beauty product suggestions. I love them 😍

  25. Glada St Clair says:

    Nice comfy shoes. Great verse.

  26. Jenniffer Groski says:

Love to wear athletic shoes for any reason!!

  27. I absolutely love my Brooks. I’ve been wearing them for about 4 years and I’m on my third pair.

  28. We tend to hibernate in January, but if we get up enough energy to get to a restaurant, we are always glad we did. People are usually happy to finally be around others, and the ambience of the lighting at night is so pretty. But then…back to a cold car. Take the time to unwind and relax in the winter so you’ll be ready for spring work. And a good book helps.

  29. I Love Brooks! I wear them for 12 hours at work and they give the best support and are so comfy. I do want to try Hokas A lot of my coworkers wear them.

  30. I don’t like going out or driving in the dark. Athletic shoes is something I know nothing about. If they have the big Nike sign then I know what shoe a person is wearing. I wear Sketchers running shoes for walking. Running shoes are light. Other types of sneakers are heavy and tire my feet. Thank for sharing.

  31. Diane Schexnyder says:

I love my HOKA Clifton 9 shoes. I have a new pair under the Christmas tree! Have a Merry Christmas!

  32. Phyllis P says:

Brooks shoes are my all time shoe!!

  33. Karyn Gary says:

    Tania,
I loved your segment on athletic shoes. I have been a Hoka “gurl” for over 10 years due to an ankle injury and replacement. Hoka’s keep me moving and upright. They provide needed orthopedic support and comfort without looking like “Grammy’s” footwear.

  34. Linda Conner says:

I tried Hokas this year for the first time, and found that they really helped my lower back pain on my long walks. The only downside? The shoes make my already big feet look bigger, lol!!

  35. Leslie Bizzell says:

Thanks for this post, I work from home and I do move alot so it is always hard to find those comfy and supportive yet stylish tennis shoes.

I just got my first pair of Hokas and what a difference they have made I love them and for those that have narrow feet they may seem a little wider but they offer everything we need.
I chose the Clifton 9 in all white which pair perfectly with all my stay at home athletic wear.

  36. Love the selections! Perfect!!

  37. Whew, thankful we’re not the only ones😇 The desire to change into nice clothes from our comfy, lounging clothes does not stand a chance even to our appetite, so we stay in. I HAVE got to find some good athletic shoes, my Nikes are not cutting it anymore. Thank you for the suggestions. I have had my eye on the Hoka. I do not comment everyday, but definitely read everyday and enjoy!

  38. Roberta Schwandner says:

Thank you for the nice selection of tennis shoes. I still can’t believe how expensive tennis shoes have gotten.

  39. Grandma Judy says:

I’m with you. my head tells me that I should be home when it is dark. I wonder if it is from my parents telling me that as a child. We do go out to eat with friends in the evenings but if it is just the 2 of us we go out to lunch. Enjoy your Christmas with your family!!

  40. Janice Nagle says:

I liked the shoe choices today. athletic shoes are very comfortable! you and your husband are not the only ones. I don’t like to go out after dark in the winter!

  41. I like the Lululemon shoes in the natural ivory color. White is my usual color for athletic shoes but this is a pretty color and I am ready for a change.

  42. I am not a fan of Hoka but love ON Cloud.

    1. It’s funny how we all like different brands.

  43. We also don’t like to go out after dark – and we usually eat around 7pm.
I love my Brooks shoes for walking nut have heard so much about on cloud that I want to try them. I like the look of the lululemon but don’t know anyone that has worn them.

  44. I love Brooks! I want to try Hoka next. I love the dark magenta color you featured. It’s gorgeous!

  45. Ryka Devotion sneakers are great if you have ball of the foot issues. It’s highly rated. Love them.

  46. Hi There – love your blog and your style of clothes as well as your style of writing! I love the funnies you write about and the “Glory to God”! I think I will give the Hoka a try! Stay well and stay safe! Merry Christmas! LM

  47. Linda Shearer says:

I love Brooks! Wore New Balance for years but recently got a pair of Brooks and they are so cushioney, if thats a word!

  48. Phyllis Martin says:

I have bad feet so these are very good suggestions. When your feet hurt you hurt all over!!

  49. Judy Rogers says:

Love all of your posts and FYI: the Hoka/Clifton 9 are the best athletic shoes I have ever had! Not only are they “cushy” and supportive, but hold up the best/maintain shape better than any I have ever had! I have been wearing Hokas for many years now to combat planters fasciitis, but this style of Hokas are my fav!
    Merry Christmas!

  50. My husband and I also are late eaters, and are almost always home before dusk. We laughed last week when we finally drove his car after dark, and got to see what the pattern of the headlights was. He had the vehicle over 6 months, before it was ever driven after dark. Wonder what we will be like in out 70’s? I have the On Clouds, love them! Have a safe and blessed week!

  51. I’ve been thinking of trying Hoka tennis shoes. Great post!

  52. I live in my Skechers. Never changing if I can help it.

  53. I love my OnCloud shoes!
