A FEMININE FAUX LEATHER SHACKET AND GIRLFRIEND JEANS
Oh my word! Yesterday was summer, but today it is FALL! The wind has kicked up, the temperatures dropped into the 60s, and we are looking at a low tonight in the 40s. I’m writing today’s blog post all snuggled up in a blanket because I’m freezing.
This morning while I was out walking Lucy, I noticed leaves on a few of the trees had started to change. I new fall was coming, but I didn’t expect it to be overnight. I’m glad I’ve been buying a few fall items because I needed them today. It is supposed to warm back up at the end of the week, but this has been everyone’s wakeup call. Get your driveways sealed, your gutters cleaned, firewood stacked, propane tanks filled, and start preparing for the weather that is coming sooner rather than later.
Did you see my Chico’s try-on haul last week? I styled the Light Oak version of this Brown Faux Leather Shacket, so I wanted to show you the darker, richer CHerry Brunette jacket today. For the most part, shackets have been oversized jackets. A shacket used to be a CPO jacket; a thick wool shirt with breast pockets issued to chief petty officers in the US Navy in the 1930s. However, women started buying them from the Army/Navy stores and styling them in a modern way, and a Shacket was born.
The Oblong Print Scraf ties the brown Shacket and the Ecru Shirt together, plus it adds a modern touch with the different animal prints. Scarves aren’t trending at the moment, but I like them, and I’m going to continue to wear them. In the winter, they add warmth as well as style, and I love adding them to an outfit.
The problem that I had with a shacket was that it still looked like the jackets my dad’s construction workers wore. I don’t work in construction, and I don’t want to look like I do. The Chico’s version is one I like better because it stills looks modern, but it is also feminine looking. The shacket has a seaming for a more fitted fit, and I like the way the cuffs have a puckering, like a poof. That’s a feminine detail that I like. I’m wearing a size 1, and it fits me perfectly.
I added the Sand Wash Satin Shirt in Ecru under the Shacket to brighten the look. The Ecru shirt pops against the dark brunette jacket and the dark wash jeans. The shirt is soft and fits TTS. I’m wearing a size 1, which fits me fine.
The Animal Print Hoop Earrings are made from genuine haircalf. They look great with the colors of fall, and they will go with anything. The earrings are a great size, but still lightweight.
I LOVE this Quilted Crossbody handbag!!! This feels luxurious and looks so expensive! You can chose to carry the bag as a clutch, a satchel, or as a crossbody. It looks dressy enough to wear with an evening dress or can be dressed down to wear with jeans. This is a great size bag, and you will be so impressed with the quality of the bag!
I wear jeans most of the time, so I own several pairs. The So Slimming Girlfriend Ankle Jeans are one of my favorites because they look and feel great. I want comfort as well as style, and these jeans deliver. I cuffed them a tad so you could see the Neutral Wedge Heels, and I think showing a little ankle is sassy! The No Tummy Girlfriend Jeans feature a slightly stretchy fabric powered by exclusive So Slimming® Hidden Fit technology that slims and smooths at the tummy. They run TTS, and I’m wearing my usual .5.

very clear and good article easy to understand. Thank you
I love the classy fall look today. Not ready for fall yet … but you look very stylish!
It was almost COLD here today. I had to wear a jacket when I ran some errands.
Tania,
I haven’t heard the term CPO jacket in years! When I was a little girl, my brothers and sisters had them, but I was too small. In the past, I have asked people if they had one or knew where the term came from. No one could help me. Since I now own a Shacket or two, I guess I finally have my CPO jacket.
That is a great story, Linda! I’m glad you now have your shacket.
Beautiful outfit, Tania! This is the first time I’ve seen the shacket in faux leather. It really does elevate the style. Thanks for always bringing us stylish options for women after 50.
I love the look of the shacket, it looks high-end!
OMG, girlfriend! No wonder you look great in everything—-you wear a .5 in jeans??? You are tiny! lol I won’t tell you what I wear in Chicos! still HOT here in Florida, although the temps are now in the 80s instead of 90 every day!
Linda, I’m definitely NOT tiny. Lol!
Oh, Tania, I really like that faux leather shacket! It’s such a pretty color and amps up your outfit perfectly.
It is a beautiful jacket, and it looks great in person.
