ARE YOU A WOMAN’S CLUB MEMBER
Hello from Blacksburg, Virginia!!! I am coming to you live from the home of the Virginia Tech Hokies this Saturday morning. I arrived earlier on Friday, along with the BFF’s, Sandy and Bertha, and we are all in attendance for a GFWC Virginia Woman’s Club Conference.
It is 10:30 p.m. on Friday night as I write this post, and there will not a “fashion” post for today. Did I hear some groaning from you gurls? You are the one’s that told me I could take some time off. Haha
Instead I am going to talk to you for just a minute about the woman’s club. I know some of you are retired, and joining your local woman’s club is something you need to check into. I joined the GFWC Grundy Woman’s Club over 15 years ago. One of the reasons I joined was because we had moved to a town my husband was from, but I knew very few people. I had seen articles in the local paper, showing some of the ladies in the local woman’s club, and highlighting their activities. I told my husband that looked like something I would like to do, so I called and inquired when their next meeting would be.
Joining the woman’s club is one of the best things I have ever done. Not only do you meet ladies from your community that you might have not known, but you touch so many people throughout your community. If you are a teacher, or a retired teacher, you need to be part of the woman’s club. We support all sorts of Educational programs and advancements in that area. If your town has a library, chances are a woman’s club was instrumental in its starting or development.
My own local club takes on many special projects such as Child Abuse Awareness, Domestic Violence, Breast Cancer Awareness, Autism Awareness, Abuse Shelters, Nursing Homes, and Remote Area Medical. We are just a small club, but we make a big difference in our communities.
Are you political? Woman’s clubs have areas that deal with Legislation and Public Relations as well as Public Issues. Our past GFWC president met with many government officials, including Vice-President Biden, concerning women’s issues.
Are you a lawyer, teacher, a board member, a government official, or have a job of any kind that would consider you a leader? If so, then you NEED to be a member of a woman’s club. Some notable GFWC clubwomen include Eleanor Roosevelt, first lady of the United States of America, social reformer, columnist, teacher, and political activist; Jane Addams, founder of Hull House; Julia Ward Howe, author of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic;” Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman to ever be elected to both Houses of Congress, and the first woman to campaign for the presidential nomination of a major political party; and Nellie Tayloe Ross, the first female governor and the first woman to be appointed Director of the United States Mint.
Did you know that woman’s club member is why we have stripes down the center of the road? Did you know that GFWC’s Women’s Crusade for Seat Belts program resulted in the installation of more than one million seat belts over the course of one year.
There are hundreds of reasons why you need to be a woman’s club member, but I am just going to give you a couple more.Their futures! I hope to make the world a better place for my granddaughters, one community at a time. If you think that joining a woman’s club is something you might be interested in, email me and I will get you in contact with someone from your state. If you are already a woman’s club member, then give your club a shout out!

Love love love your outfits. Where do you buy your clothes.
GFWC is made up of 50 state federations, to which local clubs belong. By joining a local women’s club, clubwomen become members of their state federation, which conveys membership in GFWC.
The following list of club websites represents only a fraction of our membership. http://www.gfwc.org/who-we-are/club-websites/
To find out if there is a club in your area, please contact GFWC’s Membership Services Department at GFWC@GFWC.org.
There is also an international affiliation of GFWC clubs, so if you live outside the U.S. you can still become a member of the GFWC. Forming a new club is easy – I know, I started a GFWC club in my town six years ago and it’s been awesome!
We hope you will consider joining this amazing organization!
Always looking for new members here in Mid-Michigan. I belong to the GFWC Flushing Women’s Club and would love to hear from anyone who would like to join.
Tania, you are probably the best PR we have for General Federation of Women’s Clubs. I have been a part of clubs for almost 50 years. Yes, I belonged the entire time I worked and raised my children. I can’t imagine not being a part of the fantastic group of volunteers and the friends I have all over the US and in other countries. Come join us.

I helped start our women’s club here in the Kansas City area and have made the friends of a lifetime through this group. We focus on both philanthropy and social activities. I agree with everything in your post, it’s a great way to help others and meet new people.
sTania, I am a recent blog reader and have enjoyed all your posts on clothing styles, makeup, hair, and now today, The Women’s Club. I have been looking for “something” to do, such as an organization to join and after reading your comments on your Women’s Club I decided to look the one up where I live. I live in Shreveport, La and will be calling the club here on Monday! It sounds like the type of activity I would thoroughly enjoy with a chance to get to know my new city better as well an opportunity to make new friends! Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
I LIVE IN DANVILLE VIRGINIA……DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ABOUT HERE?? I KNOW WE HAVE RED HAT CLUBS…..THAT IS ALL I REALLY KNOW ABOUT…..WOULD LIKE TO JOIN SOMETHING THAT I COULD GET INVOLVED WITH THAT REALLY HELPS OTHERS….THANK YOU TANIA……
Deb, I passed on your info to a young lady who also lives in Danville. She should be getting in contact with you about different clubs you could join. I hope you love it!
Thank You Tania….I will be waiting to hear from her…..
I’m a Past President of our Woman’s Club in Lemont, IL! You’re right in saying its a great way to meet a lot of diverse and talented women. Our club was instrumental in building a Safety Village for our community. They have also worked on various other philanthropic projects. And of course as you stated we contribute annually to our local library. We worked hard but we had tons of fun!
This type of work is fun, exhausting sometimes, but so much fun!!!
I would like more information on a women club. Wichita Ks
I will try to find out that info for you Janet.
I never considered a woman’s club but will as retirement gets closer. Sounds like a great way to make a difference and continue to make friends.
Love the outfit. Wonderful top with my favorite colors. I am headed to our yearly woman’s retreat today where it will be hot and humid. I could use an outfit like that! I have an hour and half to figure out what to wear. Yikes!
Have a goof day.
Audrey, you would love woman’s club. We DO have fun, and we DO make a difference ?
I think joining a women’s club is a fab idea – we have several professional women’s clubs here which are great but I don’t think I know of a regular women’s club…must look into…also I think it would be a great idea for my Mum in NZ..
So in case anyone likes to do a spot of online shopping during the weekend – here is a selection of 18 fab summer shoes – I would buy every pair if I could and had the room (hehe)…http://bit.ly/2be95nI
Enjoy your weekend
xx Yvonne

I joined the women’s club at my 55 and over community when I moved here last year. All the ladies are WELL over 55; by about 30 YEARS! Not all that much fun. ?
That happens way too often, but there is a cure. YOU! Join the club and start recruiting. Get your friends to join, their friends, etc. Look for ladies 20 years younger than you, and encourage them to be part of a volunteer organization. Last night there were 6 of us who went out for drinks. Our ages ranged from 80 to mid 30’s. We laughed so hard we cried. Age is an attitude, not only in clothing, but in life. You could be the “spark” that club needs.
