WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE THE TIME FOR SELF CARE
You have probably heard of “wearing my heart on my sleeve,” or “love is in the air,” “all we need is love” before, so I won’t use any of those quotes. Instead, I am going to use this one by Mandy Hale,
“It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and make your happiness a priority. It’s necessary.”
I made that quote BIG and BOLD so that you won’t be able to miss it. Too many of us think that taking time for ourselves means putting others on the back burner, and that is not the case. Instead, when you don’t permit yourself to indulge in self-care, then you are putting your loved ones on the back burner. They won’t be getting the BEST version of you, and that isn’t fair to them or you.
I feel so strongly about this subject that I am collaborating with a couple of my blogger friends to spread this message as much as possible. Plus, I am sure that Jennifer and Cindy will have tips or suggestions for self-care that I might not have included, so be sure to check out their posts.
Self-care doesn’t have to cost a lot of money, and it doesn’t have to be time-consuming. You can practice self-care for FREE in as little time as 5 minutes, and I’ll give you some tips later on in this blog. But, for now, let’s have a look at what I am wearing. After all, this is a fashion blog. Lol!!!
Before I tell you about this heart cashmere sweater, let’s all take a moment to appreciate the heart symbol that I created with my hands. This is probably the best one that I’ve ever created. Haha! Now, for the details on this sweater, I think that this heart sweater is super cute. I don’t like wearing many “heart” things; it just isn’t my jam. But, I loved all of the hearts’ different colors, so I took a chance and ordered it to try. It is very soft, and the colors are vibrant.
I like that this sweater could be worn at any time of the year, but it would be especially great for Valentine’s Day. I am wearing a medium in the sweater, so I think that it is true to size. However, when I looked, they were sold out of all sizes. Anytime a holiday is approaching, you need to get your orders placed early if you want to find your size. I will show you some others that I like, and I have already ordered a couple of them myself.
Accessories
Accessories are a way that you can wear hearts. Heart jewelry can be worn at any time of the year, and I wear mine several times throughout the year. I love wearing them when I am celebrating my anniversary, and I recently bought the heart necklace that I am wearing for my granddaughters, so hopefully, that is something that they will cherish.
My scalloped edge large hoop earrings are by Kendra Scott, and you’ve probably seen me wear them several times before. These are lightweight, and they are gorgeous in person. The small rhinestone cross necklace that I have on is understated. It has small pavé cubic zirconia stones that make up the horizontal cross, but they don’t cast a lot of bling.
Did you see yesterday’s post? I talked about using a handbag to add a pop of color, and this leather handbag from Vera Bradley has been one I’ve carried for years. When I first bought this bag, I thought, “I’ll never carry this bag. It is too bright, and it won’t go with anything.” Well, I was WRONG. I carried it non-stop for the first year, and I still carry it all the time. I love the bright color and how it adds interest to any outfit.
Here are cute handbags for you to check out, and be sure to click on the photo of the bag to see all the colors available. Some websites won’t let me choose the color that I want to show you.
Which to talk about first??? These gorgeous suede pumps or the great fitting dark wash jeggings? I am going with the fly front jeggings since they are still in stock and available. Some jeggings fit so tightly that you see every freckle on your leg. That might be a slight exaggeration, but you understand what I mean. I was hesitant to order these jeggings in my usual size (.5, and I wear a size 10 in other jeans), but they fit me fabulously! They are not tight around the waist, and as you can see from the photo, there is still a little extra legroom. I love wearing jeggings since you can easily tuck them inside tall boots. They make your legs look long and lean when paired with booties, and they look sexy worn with heels. Here are three more pairs of jeggings that are on sale for $39.00!
I didn’t forget about the pink pumps. This is a pair that I bought several years ago, and the brand is Charles by Charles David. Of course, since these are so old, they aren’t available online unless you can find them on sites like eBay or Poshmark. I’ll link to some similar shoes for you in several different types of heels. I know that everyone doesn’t like tall heels, so I’ll see if I can find some that are shorter.
IDEAS FOR SELF CARE
Self-care can take on many forms, and it is highly personal. I’m going to give you some suggestions based on time, and then I’ll share a few of the things that I do for myself.
Self Care in 5 Minutes
- Go outside and listen to the birds.
- Buy yourself some flowers or pick some from your garden.
- Paint your fingernails
- Sit down and pet an animal or watch fish swim in a tank.
- Turn on the music and dance.
Self Care in 15 Minutes?
- Go for a short walk
- Do an at-home facial
- Eat a treat – don’t wait for a special occasion.
- Put on some makeup
- Deep condition your hair
- Color in an adult coloring book
Self Care in an Hour?
- Take a long soak in the bathtub.
- Listen to a self-development book or podcast.
- Get a massage
- Get a Pedicure
- Learn something new. Take an online course, read a book, sign up for a college class, or watch YouTube videos.
- Go for a drive
- Go on a hike
My Self Care
- Doing a morning Devotional and starting my day with prayer.
- Talking to someone in my family who doesn’t live near me every day.
- Painting my nails with a clear polish.
- Using Collagen For Her peptides.
- Taking a Maximum D3 supplement.
- Doing my skincare routine every morning and night.
Self-care is important! Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for taking care of yourself. Remember the airline’s statement, “put on your own oxygen mask before administering to others.” You aren’t any good to anyone else if you are depleted, so put some time into yourself!!!
If you are interested in the skincare that I use, then here it is. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, but I think that they are wrong. The difference in these two photos is priceless to me. No needles, no fillers, only great skincare.

Psalms 46:3
I love the whole outfit. The sweater is fab.
Thank you for sharing your self care tips. You are right about self care, but most of us feel guilty for putting ourselves first.
Hey pretty lady, I love that’s sweater! I love Valentine’s and you are right that’s what her could be worn anytime. And those pumps and that bag are amazing with that outfit. You know how to rock color. And thanks for the lesson about taking time for ourselves. In these gloomy depressing shutdown days in New Mexico those things are really important.
Thank you, Tania, for this post that is especially poignant for me today.
My dad is in hospice and this week has been and will be very difficult.
I’m going to refer to your self care tips because I know that they will be needed in the days ahead.
Tania, that’s an absolutely gorgeous outfit! I’m bummed the sweater is sold out but I did order the Chico’s jeggings. ❤️I also noticed that you have natural nails now which look healthy and strong. Thanks for the reminder to apply clear polish daily.
Hi Tania
You can definitely rock those fuschia pumps! I cannot wear heels anymore (well to be honest I never really did) but I sure think they are darling on you. And those jeggings from Chicos are great! You look absolutely fabulous. I am hoping to drop a few +++ pounds on Weight Watchers. Thank you so much for joining us!
Cindy
That is one of my favourite outfits on you!! Love it.
I live in Mn where the weather is 15 degrees. I see everyone in the photos wearing pumps with no socks and jeans. How is that adopted to cold weather?
Molly, if I don’t wear pumps, I usually wear boots. So, you can wear booties or tall boots and still get a similar look.
Your outfit is very cute & flattering.
The sweater(s) are so cute! I’m not a fan of crew necks with my girls announcing themselves…seems the higher the neck the bigger I look and not in a good way, but I’m going to look for a bright and cheery heart sweater.
Just a tiny reminder / heads up. I was kicked off Instagram twice and my daughter three times for liking posts over the last year or so that we considered patriotic and pro Christian . Basically, we were silenced. I believe the current people in power are going to do anything and everything to silence Christians. I don’t think Instagram was ever a good place to voice opinions in matters of faith anyway, but I won’t be attempting to create another account. I think we all should boycott censorship sponsored platforms. I wanted you to know I love you and will keep reading the blog but I’ve shaken the dirt off my feet and walked away from all social media. So thankful that my income is not tied to it.
I love your self-care tips! We all need this now. Thanks for joining us.
For some of us that just can’t wear heels anymore, can you add some flats? I’ve seen you wear them before and you inspired me to buy a pair of dark green suede loafers that are SO cute!
Great outfit Tania…the sweater is gorgeous but those shoes are my favourite part of the outfit. I recently saw a photo of Sarah Jessica Parker wearing a pair of very similar shoes, so you’re in good company!
I found the sweater on Nordstrom. It’s sold out at the moment. This outfit looks great on you!
Love the sweater and the hot pink is a great pop of color!! I took the test so fingers crossed that I win those gorgeous heart earrings. I love hearts so much that my first wedding ring was a heart shaped diamond. I plan on making the Redefine regime my next self indulgent splurge sometime in the hopefully near future. 🙂
There’s my colour! The heart sweater is the icing on the cake!❤
Love this look. Even though the sweater is almost sold out, where is from? Thanks!
Great blog and love that sweater. I know you said it is mostly sold out but where was it from?
I love the heart sweater!! And the bright pink pumps look awesome with it! So cute!!
