White after Labor Day

You don’t wear white before Memorial Day and never after Labor Day. That is the fashion rule that I grew up hearing and abiding by for as long as I can remember. There are many reasons this “rule” started, however, they no longer exist. It is no longer taboo to wear white after Labor Day, in fact it is down right fashionable.

This is what I wore on Thursday, a navy blazer from JCP, a plaid shirt with pretty rhinestone buttons from Old Navy, and a pair of white jeans from Versona. I must admit, I felt a little twing when I put on the white jeans. In my little neck of the woods, we are not quite as up on the latest fashions like cities like New York or Paris are. I was a little afraid one of our customers would point out my fashion mistake. I was definitely on  the look out for the “Fashion Police” to come and arrest me at any time. While no one commented on my daringness, neither did they compliment me. Oh well, at least the jewelry was cute.

It’s kind of hard to see, but I have on a couple bracelets that my friend and co-worker made for me out of coins. The necklace, which doesn’t show up, is from Artistic Icing, it is one of my favorites and it goes with everything. And if you look really hard, like with a magnifying glass, you can see my earrings. They match one of the bracelets, and are made from two pennies each.

Maybe as this blog progresses, I’ll get better at taking pictures of the items I intend to mention. Or maybe I will just have a disclaimer on every posts that say, “this article may cause squinting”.

As far as not receiving any compliments – well, I love it! There. And I can 100% relate to you. We even look alike. So keep it up please. It encourages me greatly and you look great!

  3. I love your outfits and your blog! I will definitely check in to get fashion tips! I too struggle not to look like I’m ready for the nursing home or age-inappropriate. Thanks for the help! (Love your little dog!) Diane

    1. Thank you so much Diane! I hope you stop back in again.

  4. Cute look! I love that plaid has returned! I had always heard no white shoes between Labor Day and Easter…not Memorial Day. So funny….I’m sure it has something to do with what part of the country you’re from. LOL I may have heard it referred to also with clothes at some point, but I remember getting a “winter white” wool pencil skirt in high school. It was the early 80s and was the “new” thing. Then, not too many years after, poor Sarah Ferguson made the mistake of showing up in Houston, in January, in a chiffon day dress. (The British consider Houston the tropics?) My point is that the fabric also plays into whether something is seasonally appropriate. So, yes, I agree, wear white when you want to. I’m wearing white jeans to the Baylor game tomorrow. Sic ’em!

Anyway….I found your blog through JoLynne’s. You have a sassy style I like. I look forward to reading future posts!

    1. Go Baylor! Thanks for checking out my blog. I am still learning, so I really appreciate the feedback. JoLynne is awesome, it is so nice of her to have this link up. I hope you come back to visit me again.

    1. Thanks Jolynne for stopping by and leaving me the encouraging comment. I just now figured out how to reply to you. This whole blog “thing” may take me a while to figure out.
