50 Is Not Old | Formal DressI know this post will not be one that everyone needs to see. But with wedding season fast approaching, I thought some of you might like to see a post featuring a formal dress. I have mentioned before that I was a District President for GFWC Virginia. There are 8 districts, and I was the President of the Southwestern District. One of the duties of the President is to attend State functions like the convention I attended. On Saturday night, there is a processional of Past President, District Presidents, and the current State Officers.50 Is Not Old | Formal DressThis is the one night where the dress is more formal. Some in attendance even wear long gowns, even if they are not in the processional. I bought this dress last year, and wore it to my son’s wedding. This was my mother-of-the-groom dress. I LOVE the color. Bronze must be a popular color at the moment, I saw several bronze colored dresses on Saturday night. I bought this dress from David’s Bridals, but be aware if you buy from them, there is a 10 day return policy.50 Is Not Old | Formal Dress

I know I am in my 50’s, but that does not mean that I want to wear a frumpy dress. A lot of mother-of-the-bride/groom dresses are just OLD looking. I didn’t want something really low cut, really short, or really tight, but I did want something that was current and elegant.

This dress is a flattering cut. The empire waist helps me in my problem area of the tummy. It is tight only in the area where I am my smallest, and then flows away. 50 Is Not Old | Formal DressThe jewels at the neckline eliminate the need for a necklace. Instead I chose to wear a pair of large stone earrings and a bracelet that my sister-in-law bought me for Christmas.

50 Is Not Old | Formal DressThe other bracelet I have on is one that I bought at the convention from a vendor called the Neck’d Ladies. How cool is that name? It is white metal dogwood flowers with a large rhinestone in the middle of each flower. 50 Is Not Old | Formal DressMy vintage feather clutch was a big hit at the convention. Everyone at my table loved it, and I had to pass it around and let each one of them see it. I have the matching hat to the clutch, but it is not flattering on me. I will not break up the pair though. Here is where I styled the clutch last time. It is one of my most pinned posts on Pinterest.

CLUTCH: Similar | Wallet50 Is Not Old | Formal DressHere is a look from the back. I was just thrilled that I didn’t have a back boob. That is always one of my goals when I dress. I may not look at hair from the back, but I usually turn around to see if I have a back boob showing. If so, then a cardigan or blazer will be put on before I head out the door. 50 Is Not Old | Formal DressYou remember that I told you it is always cold at these functions, but my cashmere wrap would not be appropriate for this look. Instead I threw on a peacock colored wrap that had strands of bronze running through it. I didn’t walk with the shawl, but I kept it at the table for just in case. I didn’t get a picture of my shoes, this dress is really long. I have on the highest pair of heels I have, and it still drug the ground.

  1. Love your gown. My daughter is getting married in April and I am looking for a gown. Hope I can find one that is elegant and comfy as this one looks. Thanks for sharing.
