WEARING A TWEED DRESS
Have any of you had one of your grown children come back home to live with you? I am loving having my daughter back home from Alaska, but there is an adjustment period coming. I want to treat her like a child still, but she is a grown woman. Joe wants to treat her like a grown woman, and she is still a child. Lol! She wants to act like a grown woman some of the time, but she still reverts to being a child some also.
Joe now has to put on clothes when he walks through the house of the morning. LOL! We are also trying to agree on what the temperature needs to be set on. Remember that she has been used to the colder temperatures of Alaska and we sometimes keep the thermostat set on 73-74. But, the biggest compromise so far is what we are going to eat. She is vegan, and I am actually pretty good with that, but she also wants to be grain free, dairy free, and low-fat. Houston, we have a problem!!! I am not even sure where to start, but Joe and I need to start slowly. There is a website called, Oh She Glows, that has vegan recipes, and we are going to try some of those. I told her that she might have to order some of the food in though since our town does not have a wide variety of food options in our stores. If you have tried and true recipes, then please send them to fiftyisnotold@gmail.com so that I don’t starve. I may end up getting healthy and skinny and who wants that?? Hahaha!
I love the colors in this sleeveless tweed dress by Charles Henry. It is vibrant and sedated all at the same time. I like the fringed hem, and it is the same around the arm openings. I didn’t feel like freezing and taking my jacket off to show you. Lol! You can go to the website if you are curious what it looks like. Haha! A sheath dress is a timeless look, and the tweed pattern looks awesome with this look. I am wearing a size large, so I would say that this fits true to size. It is dry clean only so be sure to consider that.
I added my favorite Italy necklace to this look, and I think it looks fabulous! I love the crystal centers and the ivory petals on this necklace. I don’t even think that I put on any earrings for once. ? Go to my website to place an order and be sure to do lots and lots of Christmas shopping while you are there.
These adorable dark-gray ankle boots are from Kathy Van Zeeland, and I bought them years ago at QVC. I loved the rhinestone embellishments on the heel for unique details. I think that ankle boots look great with a dress. What is your opinion?

My 29 year old daughter has been living back home for about a month now and we adjusted quite nicely…thankfully! She has the upstairs of the house to herself so we all have our space. She has pretty normal eating habits but tends to go towards vegetarian and if she doesn’t like what I’m cooking she prepares her own meal and we all eat together. In fact she’s out of town now and I miss her! You’ll figure it out and will cherish the time. Joe will adjust too…my husband has lol
My son is 25 and is still living at home. He is successful and has a good full paying job – an engineer and my daughter is 24 who is also working but only part time hoping it goes to full time early next year. I think they like it here. I on the other hand am ready for them to spring the nest but I hope they don’t go too far. LOL>>>>>> I just implemented a new cooking schedule I am only going to cook three days in the week they can figure out the other days…….. I’m not their cook nor their maid but I think they think I am!!!
I learned a lot about being vegan by ordering meals with recipes from GreenChef and Purple Carrot. It is an easy way to learn more about being vegan.
You look amazing as always. LOVE those booties. I have a niece that for medical reasons is dairy, grain and nut free. She swears by the website Against All Grain. She says they have great recipes. Hope this helps.
LOOOOOOVE those booties!
Just try to treat her like an adult. My mom still tries to tell me what to do at 47 years old, and therefore I don’t really enjoy visiting her. I don’t want your relationship with your daughter to become broken.
I’m loving the fringe on this dress and was thinking it would be great for Christmas until I saw the price and the fact that it has to be Dry Cleaned….LOL….guess I will pass on it even though it is SO pretty. Oh goodness…your daughter should be easy to cook for as sounds like it would just be salad and vegetables that she eats! Having the grown kids back in the house just for holidays puts us out of “our” routine but it’s only for a couple of days and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Love the ankle boot on you Tania you have the height but for me with short little legs not so attractive loving your tights
Remember it is your house your rules!!!!! We have 6 children and some of them have gone through a vegan phase… The best solution was to have them cook their own meals and stop immediately any comments about our diet. Now that they are in their 40s and 50s they have abandoned it….but when they come home they still revert to some childish ways….Love the dress it must be of very good quality the checks match at the seam, I worked in fashion years ago and this was a necessity for a quality garment ,very rare these days.
Forgot to mention That if she stays with you after a reasonable time she has to participate with household expenses, this is not cruel but actually kind, for her independence.
I am giving her a few weeks before “momma” mode kicks in. She needs a little petting but then she will have to work and clean just like the rest of us. Lol!
Please tell me about the hose/tights! Brand, source, sizing. Thanks!!
The hose is very old, Donna. I have no idea when or where I bought them. Sorry!
Kudos to your daughter for her healthy diet. And give it a try, yourself – the results can be amazing! We love the whole Engine 2 program and the Esselstyn family. They have great books and recipes – and of course, tons of you-tube videos. Good luck!!
Yes! They have lots of resources: website with recipes, blog, videos, book, 7 day kick-off plan, etc. Didn’t you and Joe try this a few years ago?
Cindy, we did do this a couple of years ago. We did great and we loved the results. BUT, then we went on vacation and got off the program and we haven’t been able to get back in gear.
I have the Engine 2 cookbook, and I went to see one of the Esselstyn’s talk a couple of years ago. I love their story.
i hear you on the cooking thing years ago my daughter was Kosher, that was a challenge, I let her do her own thing, good luck with the vegan stuff
You are glowing today. Glad your daughter made it home safely!?
Super pretty necklace. I see you love it as well as it goes with a lot of your outfits. Patterned tights look cool with the dress. In fact I give your outfit 10/10. Love it
I love that blazer on you, Tania! About the diet, my hubby & I are tweaking our diet in a very similar way. I just recently found a good cookbook to inspire ideas. The book is on Amazon so you can ‘peak inside’. But you can find a PDF of the book on eBay -for a mere $.98! Vegan Rest – The 28-Day Plan to Kickstart Your Healthy Lifestyle (PDF) It has beautiful pictures & advises on everything from shopping to meal prep, easy to follow pictures, and sample meal plans. Good luck!
I want to eat healthily, it is just so much trouble until you get used to it. I will check out that PDF.
ADORABLE again!! Love this color combo on you and thinking I need that necklace! ?
Yes, everybody needs this necklace!
Oh, I would LOVE for my daughter to live with me again. Even when she comes to visit she stays with her father because they have the bigger house and her half brother and sister and the horses and goats and dogs and cats and a spare car to use… Sometimes I wish I could stay with her father, ha ha. Instead, right now she is moving from Florida to San Diego so she’s going even further away (I’m in NY) And I know I will be seeing her even less. She’s not even coming back for Christmas, which is a first. A hard, sad first. I think I need a bright pink blazer to perk me up.

Bettye, it is hard when they move so far away. Juneau was a very long trip for Joe and me to make plus a 4 hour time difference. I am thrilled that she is back home.
You look stunning x
I LOVE LOVE LOVE everything about your outfit!!!
My youngest just moved out in June so I’m adjusting to living alone for the first time since my teens (a very, very long time ago!). Tweed has been calling to me lately so I just bought a tweed jacket for 65% off. I’m excited for it to get here tomorrow! I will ask my youngest and my mother for some recipes. Mother has developed a wheat allergy in her old age and Rebecca has gone gluten and dairy free because they both cause inflammation and she has Lupus. Rebecca also says she won’t eat anything that once had a face. She actually has a pet pig (in addition to the horses, goats, sheep, dogs, cats, and rabbits)
I don’t really like meat for the most part. I will choose other options if I am presented with them. But, I grew up in the South and wasn’t introduced to other methods of cooking.
U had a bright pink blazer years ago & wore it a lot. Loved it. Made me happy. Sometimes I’d wear it because I WAS happy; sometimes I wore it because I WANTED to be happy.
I’ve had grown kids live with me long enough that it feels weird to be alone. Now I live with one of them!!! Paybacks…. 🙂
I use color for mood alteration also. Pink is a very happy color.
