Ways To Wear Cargo Pants From Summer To Fall
The days are getting shorter, and the leaves are starting to change colors. These are great indications that fall is knocking on the door to be let in. It is that time of the year when you have no idea about what to wear since the weather changes throughout the day. I’m showing you a few ways to wear cargo pants from summer to fall.
Layering
It is still too hot to wear a heavy sweater or jacket in the middle of the day. I like adding a lightweight shirt, jacket, or sweater in the mornings and afternoons that I can remove if needed. This lightweight chambray Button-Front Shirt is perfect. It can be worn later in the fall under sweater or jackets and is a great neutral that will go with almost anything.
I’ve been searching for a good-quality camisole with a built-in shelf bra. This one is called “perfect,” and I admit the name might be accurate. It is thick enough not to be see-through, and the quality is fantastic. I think it runs a tad bit small, so I’m going to return the medium I tried on and replace it with a large one. The tank is also available in black and navy.
Lightweight Sweater
It is already starting to get nippy in some parts of the country, so a lightweight sweater would be welcomed. I can’t believe it is almost “sweater weather,” but that might be my favorite time of the year. This Peony Pullover Sweater is a nice weight, and the color will brighten everyone’s day. The sweater has drop-shoulders and a relaxed fit. I’m wearing a medium, and it is oversized on me. If you want a more fitted look, you’ll need to size down.
I’m especially fond of this Small Allington Tote for fall since it will look great with everything. If you’re worried about everything rolling around in the bottom, you can grab a purse organizer or some zipper pouches so you can find your objects easily! I can fit my laptop, a compact umbrella, and so much more!
Neutral Colors
Spring and summer have a monopoly on bright colors, pastels, and florals. Once fall begins, you start to see plaid, jewel tones, flannel, and lots of neutral colors. I’ve become especially fond of neutrals lately, and I love pairing black and tan together for a classic look.
This Black Textured Sleeveless Sweater is great for wearing now while the weather is still nice. Once the temperatures start to dip, you can layer it under a blazer for a polished look or with a denim jacket for a casual outfit.
I added this gorgeous leather tote to elevate the outfit. The Rebecca Minkoff Leather Tote is perfect for use as a work “briefcase” since it will hold a small laptop or tablet. It looks extremely polished and very well made. If you’ve ever bought Rebecca Minkoff bags before, you know what I mean.
I wore the same Linen and rayon Wide-Leg Cargo pants with all the different tops. The color of these pants is so pretty and lighter than it appears on the website. I like the linen/rayon blend, the large cargo pockets, and the tie belt. The reviews said these pants run small; however, my usual size 8 fits me fine. I would suggest sizing up if you are between sizes just to be safe.
Elevated Tee
The last outfit for ways to wear cargo pants from summer to fall is another neutral look. I love the oatmeal-colored Embroidered Round-Neck Tee with the cargo pants. It is soft and feels great, plus the embroidery gives the top a lot of visual interest. There seem to be mixed reviews on how the top fits. Some think it runs small, and others think it is larger. I tend to say it is slightly oversized, so I guess it differs on your body build.

I think cargo pants are such a fun new alternative to jeans. I like the dressier cargo pants like those you’ve featured in this post, but I also enjoy the more casual twill style. I got a pair of olive green twill cargo pants and have been wearing them with cotton tees and sandals, I think they will transition to fall with sneakers or booties.
I love tan and black together!
Great post. I like the cargo pants and have started looking at the different styles. As a petite I know I will find one that doesn’t overwhelm me
Lovely neutrals and great ideas.
Fall has always been my favorite time of year. Great transitional looks, Tania. 🙂
Hello,Tania,
I have just started following you,and I am enjoying your many good fashion ideas. I love cargo pants, and I wear them year round. They are so versatile,as you said. Good in summer as they are lighter weight than jeans, but they look as cute paired with ankle boots as they do with sandals or tennis shoes. I like the title of your blog, and would like to add…60 isn’t old either!
Gabrielle, I was 55 when I started 50 is not old, but that was 9 years ago. Now at 64, I can say, 50 is really not old. Lol!
How’s the ninja Cremi
Sorry I asked on this post
I was just curious
Thanks Karen
It’s great, but I don’t use it very often. I bought it right before I decided to cut back on sweets. Lol!
What your mom used to do is so interesting! I like the various ways you styled the cargo pants. I am going to look into buying the bra tank. Down here in south central Georgia we are still having highs in the 90’s, so I’m still wearing clothes that keep me cool. It will probably be October before the cooler temps set in.
I love the last outfit with the JJill embroidered neck top – what a perfect summer to fall look!
Love the cargos and the JJill T-shirt!! So cute!
