TRANSITIONING FROM WORK TO PLAY IN A FEW EASY STEPS
I mentioned that I’ve been working the past few days at our lumber company. Until a couple of years ago, I worked there daily and took care of all accounting and bookwork. Even though the work attire was casual, I always tried to look nice and presentable.
Since I didn’t usually mix paint or tote boxes of nails, etc., my clothing was able to stay clean, at least mostly. Wearing dress pants and dresses was something that I did, but even on days that I wore jeans, I tried to wear a dress/casual outfit. Jewelry was always included in my looks since it makes any outfit look complete.
There were many times when I had to leave work and go to the kid’s practices or games. They played all the sports, and as soon as one season was ending, it was time to start the next one. Joe and I would have to split up often since each child had a game in different parts of the county. When that happened, I liked to have an outfit on to go from work to play in just a few easy steps.
I love the nautical vibes of my work/play outfit, and the navy striped mock neck tee is what created the nautical vibe. Anytime I see navy and white stripes, it reminds me of a nautical outfit, especially one that French women wear. I did a post last year for International Woman’s Day styling my version of what a French woman would wear, and this outfit is very similar.
This striped sweater is lightweight and perfect for spring. I love the elbow-length sleeves and the ribbing on the neckline, cuffs, and hem. The sweater is of excellent quality, and it is soft against my skin. I ended up ordering a medium, and it is still roomy and doesn’t show my lumps and bumps.
I wanted to stick with the nautical look, so I added a navy double-breasted blazer with gold buttons. I’ve had this blazer for several years, so this exact one is no longer on the website. However, since this is a classic look, I had no trouble locating several very similar items, and I’ll link to them below. There are different price points, so hopefully, there is something for every budget.
I just got these chandelier earrings in a couple of days ago, but they are already sold out. Dang, that was fast! I knew these were cute, but I never expected there to be a rush on them. Lol! So, I’ll link to some that would also look great with this look.
These stretch twill camel pants are great for work or a semi-dressy look. They are very comfortable, and they fit well. I especially like the seam that runs down the back of the pants; that’s a great unique detail that looks high-end. These pants are also available in more classic colors, gray, navy, and black, so they cover all of the essential colors you need for a capsule wardrobe. I think these run true to size; I’m wearing a size 10 in the pants. They are a tiny bit big, but I’m between sizes, so I was afraid that an 8 would be too snug.
I wear dressier shoes for work, so these suede 1 3/4″ heels were perfect. I love the pointy toe, which elongates my legs, and the foam-padded footbed keeps my feet happy. I’ve worn these shoes all day long at work without any issues. But, remember, I do a lot of desk work, and I’m not on my feet all day long.
That was my work look, and here is my play look. I could go to a ballgame or a practice in the other outfit, but I would probably look out of place. You might not have ballgames to go to, but you might want to go out with friends, to a movie, or eat with the hubby in a more casual look.
The basics of the outfit are staying, so the navy striped mock neck tee and the stretch twill camel pants are not changing. I changed the navy double-breasted blazer, which might be too dressy and confining for a game, to a classic denim jacket. I have several denim jackets, and the one that I’m wearing today is from Talbots. I’m wearing a medium which fits great even with the lightweight sweater underneath it.
Here is the back view. The fact that the sweater is longer than the denim jacket is not an issue for me.
I changed the chandelier earrings and put on my favorite gold statement hoops instead. These are big and showy, but they aren’t heavy.
I added a pair of Tory Burch sneakers that I bought at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for my casual look. I love the two-tone colors of these sneakers, and I thought they looked great with camel pants. This exact pair isn’t on the website, but several extremely similar ones are available.
Tory Burch shoes are on the expensive side, so I found some similar shoes that are more affordable.
Did you read yesterday’s Hit or Miss blog post? I love doing these types of posts, but I have to be honest; they can also be hard on me. I loved yesterday’s outfit, and I was SHOCKED when many people called it a miss. Yikes, I know that everyone has different body types, different coloration, and different likes, but it is still hard to read that something you liked and thought looked good was a miss for a LOT of people. Just remember when you comment on any of my outfits to be kind. You might gag at a pair of jeans, and someone else thinks they are great. We never want to hurt each other’s feelings by insinuating that their taste is not good, especially if they are the blogger. Lol!
I hope you liked today’s post. If so, PLEASE remember to pin my post on Pinterest.

Love the post today!
Just wanted you to know I ordered several items from Belk based on your post and I love the items. The quality is very good. I usually wear a medium in sweaters but based on your comments, I ordered smalls and they fit great. Thank you
Love your outfits and how you changed them easily for dressier to more casual! I love your posts and appreciate all the work that goes into them!
Aww- I’m sorry that people weren’t kind if they didn’t like the cheetah sweater. Personally, I’m in the Love It! camp. I had previously seen it on their website and wondered how I would wear it. You totally rocked it. 😍
You look fabulous in each of the ways you styled this outfit. I love the classic look of the stripe shirt, blazer and khaki pants….and then how you can wear it with a jean jacket and sneakers for a casual look. This post was a great idea. Thank you for all your creative ideas/ blog topics and the hard work you put forth to putting out your blog everyday. It’s noted and appreciated by your any followers.
Your post is one I look forward to reading every morning.
Love your posts and look forward to seeing them every day!
I appreciate how you have different price points and the videos that you do: also.
Thank you for all your hard work!😀
Love both outfits today!
