THIS OR THAT – WEARING SHORTS OVER 50

Today is Thursday, and I am headed to Tennessee for a hair appointment with my daughter-in-law. An added bonus for having my DIL as my hairdresser is that I get to see my parents, grandchildren, and the rest of my family who lives in Tennessee. It is a 3 1/2 hour drive, but I love making the trip every five weeks to see everyone.

I’m going through a process of trying to lighten my hair and get it to be more silver/white instead of blonde. I’m not sure how many visits it will take to get my hair to the color I want, especially since I am trying not to go the bleached route. I used Olaplex purple shampoo the last time I was in Tennessee, and it made my hair more charcoal or ash color instead of silver/white. When I got back to Virginia and used Hair Biology Purple Shampoo, it worked much better, but I still needed more silver in my hair.

My THIS outfit is blue and yellow, a color combination that I love and wear often. This adorable eyelet ruffle top is feminine-looking, and I love it paired with the yellow shorts. It will be a top that you can wear all spring and summer, and it looks great with jeans or shorts. I wore it with a pair of white crops, and it looked fresh and summery. I’m wearing a large, and it fits me great. The top comes in several colors and even in a couple of prints.

The Yellow Stripe Paperbag Shorts are by Draper James RSVP from Kohl’s. I’m honestly surprised that these shorts look descent on me. I usually steer clear of a paperbag style since I hold all my weight in my stomach. The top’s drape might help to camouflage my waistline, or maybe the stripes grab my attention. For some reason, these shorts seem to work for me. I’m wearing a size medium, and they fit well.

Did you know that suits are a big trend? What do you think about a suit with shorts instead of pants or a skirt? The Lemon Stripe Linen-Blend Blazer is a perfect match for the shorts, and the pale blue stripe is the same color as the top. You will be surprised at how often you can wear this blazer; it will look great with jeans, navy, and white. I’m wearing a large, and it fits well.

This Lane Carryall is a gorgeous summery color, and it is an unexpected pop of color with most outfits. With this outfit, it blends in instead of standing out. I love the size of this handbag; it is a great medium size.

Now, for THAT outfit. This casual outfit consists of a navy cardigan, a white tee, and a pair of Bermuda shorts in a geo print of green and yellow. I can see wearing this outfit to run errands, go out to lunch, or go shopping.

I like this v-neck t-shirt, but I will warn you that it is thin. I’ve noticed many websites have “tissue” turtlenecks and tees; that is just a fancy way of saying that the garments are really thin. This is a Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee, and I think the whisper stands for whisper-thin. Lol! The crazy thing is, I actually like this tee and will wear it instead of the thicker ones that I own. I’m wearing a large, and the tee fits me fine.

I made a sizing mistake on this Navy Textured Cardigan. This cardigan is too small; I wanted a larger, more relaxed fit. I like wearing my cardigans open, but they need to only leave a small portion of my shirt showing. Since this cardigan is too small for me, it keeps pulling apart and not covering enough of the tee. I’m wearing a medium, but I should have sized up to a large.

I do like the nubby texture of the cardigan; that is a great design feature. If you’re considering the cardigan, it comes in several colors, but remember to go up one size.

I’m interested in hearing what y’all think about these Pull-On Bermuda Geo Print Stretch Shorts. I can’t decide if I like these shorts or not. They fit well, and I like the pull-on style. The legs aren’t too tight, and I wanted to try a longer pair of shorts. The 11″ inseam is plenty long, so I don’t think that is the issue. It must be the color that is causing the problem for me, what do you think? I’m wearing a size 8, and the shorts fit me well.

These Slingback Wedge Shoes are by TOMS, a brand known for giving back to the community. The natural hemp color and braided jute wrap make these shoes perfect for spring and summer. The platform is smaller than most I’ve ordered at 1,” and the wedge heel is 3 3/4″. These shoes will go with anything, and I can’t wait to wear them with shorts, crops, dresses, and slacks. I’m wearing my usual size 9, and the fit is perfect.

Now, let’s talk about the Coach Lori Shoulder Bag. I love the chalk color, and I think it is great for spring and summer. However, this one didn’t come from the Coach Outlet, and it is more on the expensive side. I’ll link to some similar ones at a slightly better price point.

The jewelry that I’m wearing for this look is Danielle Convertible Link Earrings in Mother of Pearl and the Beaded Elaina Stretch Bracelet. In the yellow and blue look, I’m wearing 18 Kt.
