The Best Puffer Jackets and Coats For Winter
Are there any Back To The Future Fans out there? Remember when Marty shows up at the 50s diner in a puffer vest and they think he’s wearing a lifevest, lol? I get it. I remember when puffer jackets first hit the scene. I’m not going to lie; it took me a minute to warm up to these. Now? I love them!
That’s the thing about fashion. Sometimes, it has to grow on you. It’s all part of your style evolution. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t wear something because it’s not your style. YOU decide that. Okay, enough of the fashion soap box. Today, I’m sharing the best puffer jackets and coats for winter.
The Best Puffer Jackets and Coats For Winter – From Old Navy
The vest is lightweight, and even though it looks like faux leather, it feels more like nylon. It is soft, silky, warm, and perfect for just a little extra warmth. I wear this all of the time when the weather is cold but not TOO cold. Once the freezing weather of winter arrives, I’d add a long coat too.
Here is this puffer vest in hot pink! One thing that I love about Old Navy is that their coats come in a great range of sizes: tall, regular, petite, and plus size! This pink is pretty, but it also comes in gorgeous champagne, olive, citrine, and others. You can’t go wrong with a POP of color. Imagine this with a black turtleneck. Awesome!
A short jacket is a must-have. I think this is perfect for any casual event, from running errands to sitting outside and cheering on your favorite athlete. If I could only buy one jacket, I’d buy it in black, but this comes in a bunch of other colors like brown, white and hot pink! This is one to keep by the door and grab every day.
The Best Puffer Jackets and Coats For Winter – From Talbots
I love this Silver Puffer Jacket from Talbots. Oh my gosh, talk about a statement piece. The fabric is super soft, and while it’s not goose down, the synthetic insulation would still keep you warm without making you look like a marshmallow. It’s perfect for layering over your favorite sweater on those chilly nights. Just don’t wear it playing hide and seek, lol. Although, it’s probably work great if you’re into running! Talk about reflective!
How different is this? The red pop color is so vibrant it’ll lift your mood even on the gloomiest day. It’s got a cinched waist with a belt, which gives you a nice silhouette without adding bulk. It’s water-repellent too, so no worries about a little drizzle, lol I think it’s very chic and would be great with a white shirt underneath.
The Best Puffer Jackets and Coats For Winter – From Ann Taylor
Wow. Can a puffer jacket be considered a classic? This one sure comes close. The hem hits just right, making it easy to wear with all sorts of pants or skirts. It’s thin, so you could really even wear this under another coat. It’s got a professional, sophisticated vibe that I love. If you think it’s too thin, you could also layer it over a sweater.
The Best Puffer Jackets and Coats For Winter – From Walmart
For those of you looking for something a bit different, there’s this fun puffer jacket from Walmart. It’s got a unique design that’s not your typical parka, and it’s perfect if you’re into the cropped puffer jacket trend. The polyester outer shell is both lightweight and warm, making it great for those quick trips to grab coffee or watch the grandkid’s soccer practice. I love how it’s stylish yet practical, and you can easily pack it into your bag if you need to.
The Best Puffer Jackets and Coats For Winter – From Amazon
This Neon Pink Hooded Puffer Coat will keep you warm and brighten your day. I love the storm cuffs (which cover your hands for extra protection) and the fleece-lined hood. I’ve paired it with jeans and a black turtleneck for a casual vibe, but throwing on a pair of black pants would automatically elevate the look.
I’ve always wanted an off-white puffer jacket, and now I have one!!! I didn’t want to invest a ton of money in an off-white jacket because I know how messy I can be. This one is super cute and water-resistant, and I love the way it fits. I’m wearing a medium, and it still gives me enough room to wear a sweater.
I’ve tried to find you different styles and different price points. I like that this olive puffer jacket has a waist-defining drawstring and a removable hood. Sometimes puffer jackets can look, well, puffy. It’s nice to have one that shows some shape. Olive is a trending color, but I know it doesn’t look great on everyone. No worries. It comes in black, white, tan, and even metallic.

Some puffer jackets have large pockets of fill, but this is quilted much closer together. It’s ultra-light, so if you’re afraid that a puffer jacket is too heavy, this would be perfect for you. This is also compressible, making it great for packing. I love the wine, but it comes in fifteen different colors! It’s a great jacket when you need something a bit more sporty.
Here’s a great long puffer coat. Last year, I bought one from Talbots that looks almost identical to this one, but it was much more expensive. If you’re looking for something stylish but don’t want to spend a huge amount, this is a great option. And, of course, it comes in several more colors, so you should have no problem finding your perfect coat.

Here is another great option for cold weather. I love a cozy fleece hood! It’s got an inner shell to help keep body warmth in, and is waterproof and rated for light rain. The elastic cuffs and zipper pockets are a nice detail, too. As it’s from Amazon, you can count on it being available in other colors as well.
This may be my favorite! It’s VERY chic. I love the hidden snap button and the fur collar. I’d feel like a supervillain wearing this out, lol. A very sophisticated, fashionable supervillain. There’s another black version with a light fur collar that’s also pretty, and of course, it’s available in many other variations.

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
I also love the puffer jackets and just purchased one but I love the pink for spring. Living in East Tennessee, a light weight coat will still be needed!
I recently bought a long Aritizia Super Puff. It’s amazing and definitely my most favorite coat and keeps me warm in Michigan. I also bought a Mackage that is really nice but more $$. Considering a Quince dupe of the Super Puff in a shorter style.
Happy New Year!
Love love coats!
I own a light gray puffer, good for AZ weather. Could use a heavier weight one for trips to MI. Really like the Talbots Blue one but sold out, boo hoo!!
Like the Quince website, have never ordered but thinking about it. Is the cashmere itchy at all? Don’t like wearing wool on skin.
Pat, cashmere is not like wool, and I don’t find it itchy at all. It is very soft.
Nice coats, I have too many already
These are such great choices for cold…which is arriving here in Texas next week!!
I have a long down jacket from LL Bean that I’ve had for ages. I wear it for outdoor activities it was great in Boston and Maine in January a few years ago. I have a packable puffer jacket, no hood, called 32 Degrees. I got it at Costco of all places for $19.99 last spring. It is my most worn jacket and really is packable. It’s great for layering.
I have two lighter weight puffer jackets. I have an old jacket for really cold weather that I call “the big guns” coat. It’s for 20’s and below. It I’m cold I don’t care how I look. I just want to stay warm.
When I get cold (Midwest cold), I turn to one of my down coats. I have one that hits my knees and one that is mid-calf. The mid-calf down coat is the one I turn to when I sit on my cold car seat, waiting for the tushie warmer to kick in – it covers my backside and legs. When it’s cold, I don’t care how I look. I want to be WARM! I will wear a hat too.
Here in Buffalo, we need these coats!
It is going to be soooo cold this weekend.
