Finding the perfect length dress can be a challenge. It is all about your body, height, and personal taste. Today, I’m going to show you three affordable summer dresses for women over 50 in 3 lengths so you can see how they look.

For sizing reference, I’m 5’6″ tall, weigh between 150-155, and usually wear a size 8 in bottoms, between a medium and a large in tops, and a 12 or a large in dresses.

1. Summer Dresses For Women Over 50 That Are Above The Knee

Some women think we ladies over 50 shouldn’t wear dresses above the knee. I think it is a matter of personal taste. If you feel confident in dresses above the knee, go for it! Petite women look great in shorter dresses because it shows more leg and helps them to appear taller.

I find myself reaching for midi and maxi dresses most of the time. However, every time I wear a shorter dress, my husband is sure to compliment me on my looks.

This is a 2-piece outfit consisting of a Navy Long Sleeve Lace Pieced Top and a Lace Inset Tiered Mini Skirt. You can see how I styled the top with white jeans in this post.

The Floral Print Clutch Wallet is cute and functional. It looks great for spring and summer and has lots of slots for money, cards, and identification cards. Plus, there is room for a checkbook and pen also. I’ve started using smaller clutch wallets when running errands or shopping so I don’t have to keep up with a larger handbag.

2. Summer Dresses For Women Over 50 That Are Knee Length

Belted Wrap Dress with Flutter Sleeves (Medium) || Blue Hobo Handbag || Tan Puffy Short Heel Sandals (TTS)

Knee-length dresses have been a classic style for decades, so choosing to wear one can help to create a timeless and elegant look that never goes out of style. This Belted Wrap Dress with Flutter Sleeves is cute a flattering. A wrap-style dress is a classic dress known for creating a flattering silhouette. The belt at the waist cinches the fabric, creating a defined waistline. This helps to create an hourglass shape.

The ruffled layer also goes around to the back of the dress.

A v-neckline helps to make your neck look longer and draw attention to the face. This can create a slimming effect and make the wearer appear taller and more elegant.

The Blue Hobo Handbag perfectly matches the print in this dress. The style of the handbag looks great with the dress and is casual enough to wear with jeans.

The Tan Puffy Short Heel Sandals are a perfect neutral. They look great with each dress, and they are comfortable too. The block heel and open toe are modern details that give these shoes a lot of style.

3. Summer Dresses For Women Over 50 That Are Maxi Length

I love a maxi-length dress as the length can help to create the illusion of height and elongate the body. That is especially true when the dress is one solid color like this Navy V-Neck Maxi Dress.

Maxi dresses are often made from lightweight, flowy fabrics that can be very comfortable, especially in hot weather. They can also provide more coverage than shorter dresses, which can be helpful for people who prefer to cover their legs.

I love the soft, comfy fabric of the dress. You could wear this dress all day long and feel like you were wearing your pajamas.

This style of dress can be dressed up or down. I love how it looks with a Denim Jacket, and it would look great with a blazer like this one.

I’m wearing a medium in the dress. The dress seems to run slightly big, but the medium fits me great.

Walmart makes it very convenient for its customers to shop, especially since most people have a store within 10 miles of their homes. You can also sign up for Walmart+, where you get Free Shipping with no order minimums (excludes most Marketplace items, location & freight surcharges) and Free Delivery (where available) with orders over $35. I take advantage of home delivery several times a week and love that small convenience.

Walmart sponsors this post, and I will receive compensation, but the opinions expressed are my own.

Hello, you look great in everything. I love the dresses with the ruffle. So cute. I don’t care for the solid dress for myself. I enjoy seeing your posts.

I usually love your choices, you seem to be slipping, outfits are looking too old for you 🙂

  3. I love the 2nd dress! It’s finally back in stock… jumping on that one! Ps… thank you for the link to the garment steamer. It works great!

    1. I’m glad you liked it! I love it, and it is so easy to use.

  4. Welcome to the Gurls!

    1. Lol! I’m sure he appreciated my comments.

  5. If it weren’t for my veins I would wear shorter dresses at least at the knee. I bought a Tshirt dress at Target similar to the one you’re styling. The slit is in front but not real high on me since I am 5’2. Since the one you styled has sold out, some of your readers may want to try Target.

  6. Love all the dresses! The wrap one is not for me yet…I’m over my comfort weight for wearing belts at the waist and I’m also short. Short and fat do not make a great combination for belting the waist! 😂 I love the skirt and blouse combo and I was really shocked to see that it is from Walmart! Walmart has really upped their game in the last few years. I order from them not infrequently. Returns are so easy! I also love the knit maxi. Apparently everyone else does too because it is completely sold out!! Thanks again for doing all the hard work for the rest of us! You are a blessing. By the way, I loved the sleeveless knit dress from Walmart that you showed in one of your recent posts so much that I ordered four of them!! Thanks!

    1. Delaine, my mom got the sleeveless knit dress too. It came in while I was there, and she loved it so much that she ordered multiples too.

  7. Christal Yowell says:

I love the maxi dress and like you could live in them, I own several colors. They are so comfortable, and you can dress them up or down easily. I really like the navy outfit- with lace tiered mini, but I’m wishing it wasn’t long sleeve. A short ruffle sleeve or 3/4 length? Maybe I’m just ready for warmer weather and a reason to wear a shorter skirt and softer top. Love the shoes you paired with it. I get such great ideas from your posts.

  8. All three of the dresses are pretty and they all look good on you. Even though I don’t feel comfortable in an above-the-knee dress, women should wear whatever they like – there are no rules!
    Welcome to your brother!

  9. While I LOVE the floral wrap dress, I have to wear a maxi to cover a knee brace. The Walmart maxi is beautiful! I honestly couldn’t believe it’s from Walmart. Unfortunately it’s all sold out right now,. I’ll keep checking to see when it’s restocked. Wish they had a notfiy me email option. Great job on this selection of dresses Tania!

  10. I love your style and have become a big fan! I think virtual shopping is the way of the future! I love all 3 dresses and agree with you, if you are confident and have nice legs, wearing a dress above the knee looks great! I’m going to order the long t shirt dress!

  11. Welcome to Tanya’s brother!

  12. The different lengths and styles really do give different looks. Thanks for talking through the differences. I tend to stick with the same style all the time. And this post challenged me to be open to try different styles! Thanks for all your encouragement and help to feel put together and to help me with mindset for evaluating an outfit!

  13. Welcome to your brother! Love the wrap dress. The pattern is very lovely.

  14. Ginger Hiller says:

You look nice in all three of the dresses, Tania! My personal preference is midi and maxi length dresses since I don’t get a tan or do a good job with applying faux tans. I’m so glad that Wal-Mart has upped their game when it comes to some of their women’s fashions.
