STYLING NEUTRALS FOR THE FALL – NOW AND LATER
Soooo, did you enjoy yesterday’s Now and Later post? I hope it helped you to see the possibilities of wearing your clothing for more than one season. Buying items that can be worn for multiples seasons will give you more bang for your buck and expand your wardrobe. So, let’s look at how to wear neutrals in the fall in the Now and Later series.
Neutrals!!! Neutrals are so versatile, and they can be worn with a lot of different colors. I love wearing vibrant colors, but everyone needs neutrals in their wardrobe. I tend to think of fall colors like dark teal, rich burgundy, and deep sienna. However, wearing neutrals in the fall can really expand your wardrobe, and give you more options.
If you are starting to revamp your wardrobe, pick neutral colors, to begin with. After you have the basics, then you can add vibrant and fun colors to enhance your style. I did a blog post about a neutral that looks good on almost everyone, and you can read about that here.
This sweater tee is a neutral color, but it has a cute embellished detail on the sleeve. That detail elevates the look of the sweater and makes it look dressier. I didn’t get a great photo of that detail, so I’ll upload on from the website for you.

Sparkly and shiny…yep, that’s what I’m talking about! This sweater has a relaxed fit, and I love the way that it drapes. Because I am always trying to hide a belly, I am a huge fan of a ribbed hem that creates a drape. This sweater also comes in three other colors, which will all be great for now and later for fall. I am wearing my usual size 1, and the fit is spot on.
The embroidered handbag and the neutral d’Orsay flats keep this outfit in a “summer” vibe. I love this handbag because it looks great in the summer, but the colors also work for fall. It is a great size to hold all of your essentials but small enough to look stylish. It also comes with a strap to carry it as a shoulder or in a crossbody style.
The saddle-colored flats are a pair that I wear all of the time. I love the pointy toe since that elongates the leg. The shoes run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 9.
Just a few tweaks to this outfit take it from summer to fall easily. BTW, wasn’t it nice of this tree to change its leaves so that my fall photos looked awesome. Lol! I think this outfit is a great example of wearing neutrals in the fall, and there isn’t a single vibrant color, other than the trees.
I love my Quay (pronounced like key) sunglasses. This brand has amazing styles, and the cost is very affordable. I have several styles from this brand. My DIL is the one who turned me on to this brand after I admired several of her pairs. I like that I can change out my glasses with each outfit, and I don’t have a fortune in them. The exact style that I have on sold out in the Nordstrom Sale, but there are a lot to choose from.
I’m wearing the mixed metal multi-strand necklace that I had on in yesterday’s post. I really love that the necklace has mixed metals, and they look fabulous against this sweater. The hoop earrings also feature a smaller mixed metal twisted hoop inside the larger silvertone hoop. These are unique and a great size for most women. They are also lightweight, which is a plus.
Have you been wondering if I was ever going to tell you about this pair of light moss crop pants? I love, love, love the color of these crop pants! Wearing olive on my lower half is how I have traditionally worn olive, but I’ve recently embraced this color, and I am now wearing it also on my top half.
I love how these pants look worn-in like they are a pair of loved pants you wear all of the time. I have a feeling they will become exactly that for me. With J.Jill, I never know what size pants that I will wear. Sometimes, I need an 8, and sometimes I need a 10. I needed a 10 with this pair. I felt like the waist was waaaay too tight when I tried on the 8, and the 10 fit much better.
It is time to drag out the fall booties! Actually, I never put mine away, so they were easily accessible. I bought many shoes and boots from the Nordstrom Sale, but these booties are a pair that I bought last year. This shade of brown is one of my favorites, along with caramel, and I tend to choose this color in many styles. Wearing neutrals in the fall can be easy when you start with a great pair of boots or booties.
I would appreciate everyone’s feedback. Are you still wanting to see summer clothing, are you still buying summer clothing, or do you want to see fall choices? This is a strange time of the year for fashion since I feel like everyone is “over” summer clothing. But, it is still so hot outside that you’re not quite ready to purchase fall clothing. Let me hear your thoughts.

You look so modern! Great post. Yes, I love the summer into fall looks, but yes, it’s still hot outside. I would love to see those great cropped wide legs with a tee and some other coverup, a kimono or other lightweight overpiece for example, that could be worn in hot weather.
What a lovely outfit.
Can you give us info on the jacket, please! It is beautiful!
It is by Lauren Ralph Lauren, but I couldn’t find the exact one anywhere. However, I did link to one that was very similar, except for the collar color.
