STAYING WARM THIS WINTER IN THESE AFFORDABLE COATS
I love snow! There, I said it, don’t throw any snowballs at me. Lol! Since the temperature is supposed to be 12 degrees outside, I thought that it might be a good time to talk about winter coats, especially affordable coats!
We didn’t get that much snow, maybe 2 to 3 inches. It is beautiful, but it is also frigid and cold outside. While I love snow, I hate being cold, so a nice warm coat is essential to me. I’m still searching for a pair of gloves to wear in the snow that doesn’t look like I’ve got boxing gloves on. If you know of something that is waterproof or resistant, warm, and still looks semi-fashionable, then let me know.
Every day when I take Lucy Lu out to go to the bathroom, she smells around like a bloodhound. I know that something comes onto my patio and yard at night, but I don’t know what it is. In the snow, I could see their tracks, and I’m thinking it is a rabbit and maybe a cat.
Although, I do smell a skunk occasionally, and I don’t want to startle one of those. I make a lot of noise before I open the screen door that leads out onto the patio in hopes that anything lurking nearby will run off. Did you know that I had a pet skunk when I was a kid? Maybe that explains a lot about me. Hahaha!
Depending on the area you live in, the thickness and warmth level of the coat you need can vary greatly. My daughter in Alaska needs one that is warm, but also waterproof since it rains or snows almost daily. I don’t need anything quite that heavy or waterproof, so something like this Anorak Coat with Faux Fur Trim Hood would work fine for me.
I’m particularly fond of fur on the hood of my coats, not for warmth, I just love the look. The faux-fur on this coat almost matches my hair exactly. The hood snaps on and can be removed if you aren’t as big a fan of that look.
This is a fairly heavyweight coat with 100% polyester fill. I like the length since it keeps your lower half warm as well as your upper body. The pockets are nice too since you can have a snap closure, a zip pocket, and a side slit for your hands. The coat also has a cinch waist drawstring so that you can adjust it to your waist.
The sleeves have a fitted ribbed knit cuff to help keep out cold air and snow. I forgot to mention that the inside is a plush fur-like material, so it is super cozy. I am wearing a large, but I think that I needed a medium. It is too big for me, even when I cinch in the waist, so I’ll have to exchange it. It comes in lots of colors, so hopefully, you’ll find one that works for you.
You can see how plush this faux-fur cropped jacket is! The sheen is beautiful and the softness is unbeatable!! I was afraid that it would be short since it is called a cropped jacket, but I think it is a normal length and hits me below my hips.
Just look at this fur! It really is beautiful and soft. I think this coat would look so cute with a pair of jeans and anything. It looks s pretty and will make a statement no matter what else you are wearing. It has snap closures, and I might add a few extra stitches to those to make sure they are good and secure. I’m not a huge fan of this kind of closure because the thread can break loose.
I feel like this faux-fur jacket is a midweight jacket. It isn’t as heavy as the anorak, but it isn’t light like a utility jacket either. This jacket would be fine on chilly to cold days, but not cold to freezing days, especially if you were going to be outside for a long time. I’m wearing a medium, and it is still a tiny bit big. It would probably be the perfect size if I had on a thick sweater instead of a lightweight turtleneck.
This herringbone double-breasted cocoon coat was Joe’s favorite of them all! He loves herringbone and houndstooth prints, and he always comments when I wear them. I have to admit that I love the look of this coat also since it looks dressy but can also be worn casually.
I never like buttoning a double-breasted coat, jacket, or cardigan, but I wanted to let you see how it looks when buttoned. I ordered a medium, but I think that I needed a small one instead. I didn’t pay enough attention to the description when I ordered it or I would have seen that it was described as relaxed. That is code for oversized and runs big.
Here is an up-close of the herringbone pattern, and you can see the faux horn buttons.
Here is the view from the back so that you can see the length of the coat. I would categorize the coat as mid to lightweight. It isn’t heavy at all, but it is fully lined and would work for chilly to cold days.
For my last coat, I’m showing you this modern and edgy faux sherpa moto jacket. This faux sherpa jacket is heavyweight and warm. It is super soft and I love the edgy vibe of this coat. My biggest downfall with the coat is that I would have preferred it to have a lining so that the pockets don’t swing loose, and I think the faux-leather trim would have looked nicer if it had been real leather instead.
This is the shortest of all of the coats, but it isn’t too short. I’m wearing a medium that fits fine and it still has room if I need to wear a heavier sweater under it.
You might have noticed my faux-fur beanie. This is a cute, cozy, and stylish beanie, but even I think it is a little pricey. It might be just what you’ve been searching for, so get it and be happy. But, if you’re looking for the look without the price tag, then I’ll try to link to some less expensive ones.

Cute coats, especially the faux fur. If the tracks on your patio are those of a cat, he needs shelter and food.
Great choices! They all look great on you. Extra bonus for those of us who don’t want to spend a lot on a coat.
Tania, would you mind sharing what products you use to fill in your eyebrows? I have light hair and I use Anastasia Brow Wiz in Taupe, but sometimes I think to looks too dark. Yours look full and perfectly colored. Thanks!
Great post! The faux fur jacket and hat are my favorites. I’m with you, I enjoy winters and dressing warm. I live in the northeast so I’m used to cold winters. Stay warm!
I enjoyed this post. A very nice variety of coats. I am impressed that they are from Walmart. I wish I needed a coat- I would check them out!
Great post on jackets/coats. I actually liked them all. Thanks for giving the weight/warmth of each one, living in a warmer climate we still need jackets. The best.
I’m glad that you found that information useful.
My favorite is the black faux fur. You look so pretty in that shimmery coat!
Gloves, find silk glove liners, then get leather or cashmere to wear over them. The silk is soft, has no weight, and is WARM! I had some from WinterSilks long ago. Cashmere was a gift bought from Land’s End. I have no idea where now, but I bet you can find some.
Thanks, Diane, for the recommendation. I’ll look into those, but I want to find some that are waterproof.
I love the plum/pink coat. It looks so pretty on you. All of them do! I was surprised it was from Walmart. Thank you for showing clothes for everyone’s budget.
I try to show a little for all different budgets.
Wow! Great choice of coats!! It is a pleasure to fi d and to read ypur everyday post, including the bible’s scripture.
Thank you!
I’m glad that you liked the post.
It’s 5 in the morning and 47 with a feel like of 44. I think that’s cold. I cannot imagine 12. Please be careful. That could be coyote tracks. The coats are so pretty. I like the fur one.
The tracks weren’t like a coyote, they were side by side and very small.
