50 IS NOT OLD | SMALL WARDROBE CHALLENGE RECAPA couple weeks ago I did a Small Wardrobe Challenge. The challenge was to show everyone how you can shop your own closet. I wanted to take the same sweater and pair of pants, and then make a couple of small tweaks to the outfit. Here were the four outfits that I styled that week side by side. 50 IS NOT OLD | SMALL WARDROBE CHALLENGE RECAPThe challenge started with a gray sweater that I bought from Old Navy. This is a basic wardrobe piece that almost everyone should have in their wardrobe. The sweater could have been navy, black, camel, ivory, etc., just as long as it was a solid color.

The maroon pants are by Earl jean that I bought at TJ Maxx a couple of years ago.

For this look I added a lace camisole and some Plunder jewelry. The entire pendant is covered in rhinestones and so is the pyramid that the tassels hang from. The matching bracelet and earrings, (not the ones I am wearing) are the same way. The earrings I have on are too cute. I couldn’t believe how big they were in person. In the catalog, these look tiny…. They are made in a knot style with rhinestones all over. These are probably the most popular earring by Plunder right now, they keep selling out.

50 IS NOT OLD | SMALL WARDROBE CHALLENGE RECAPFor look number 2, I changed a a couple things. I took off the camisole and added a plaid jacket that is fairly new, I bought it a couple weeks ago at Cato Fashions. I went to a woman’s club meeting the other day and kept looking at our President as she was talking to me. I was thinking how much I liked her jacket when it dawned on me that it was this same jacket. I asked her if it came from Cato’s, which is did. Lol!

I changed my flats for a pair of suede knee boots called the Bethesda and they are c/o White Mountain. This is a true suede boot with a 2.5 inch heel. They feature a half zipper and pull tabs at the top to help with getting them on and off.

The Plunder jewelry was changed up a little. This necklace is called the Tarah, and it is very showy. This is a heavy duty necklace, there is nothing cheap about this necklace. When you wear this necklace you better be prepared to get comments and compliments. Haha I left on my Mason earrings that I had on in the first photo.

I liked the color of this tote, and I liked the style alright. I don’t usually like a bucket bag, but the color convinced me to spend the 40.00.

50 IS NOT OLD | SMALL WARDROBE CHALLENGE RECAPThis look was geared more toward attending a high school football game. I took off the jacket and replaced it with a warm and fuzzy scarf. If I want a scarf for warmth and it is going to be around my face, then I want it to be soft. My son was a football coach for a number of years, so take my word for it that you will need a warm scarf at these games. Also, a large heavy coat that is long enough to sit on. Those steel bleachers get cold…..
I changed up the purses again and went with this GILI tote. I have other black purses, but I am loving this GILI bag. It is a perfect size, black goes with everything, and the long fringe tassel is very trendy right now. It is called the Large Roma and right now QVC has this set up on 4 easy payments.?
The dark gray flats I have on are by Fergalicious. If I had really been attending a football game I would NOT have worn these. I probably would have worn boots or at the least I would have had on socks.
50 IS NOT OLD | SMALL WARDROBE CHALLENGE RECAPAnd the final look in this series was a more casual run around town look. I had in my mind the look that a “soccer” mom would wear as she ran errands with the children. I added a denim jacket that I think every woman should have in their wardrobe. This is an item that serves the purpose of keeping you warm, but also is a much needed style item.
The change in shoes is probably the biggest difference in the outfit. I went with these cute Chuck Taylor sneakers in gray with white polka dots. These are the perfect run around town shoe especially if you are having to run after the kiddos. Those little rats can run fast!!!
If you are going to run after the kiddos all day then you will be saying a lot of prayers. I took the Tabitha necklace and added the Pray pendant to the necklace to transform the look. The Tabitha necklace can be worn long or you can wear it short. There is a lobster claw on the Tabitha pendant so that you can add your own charm, and there is a lobster claw on the chain so that you can latch on to the pendant to wear the necklace shorter. I took both of those lobster claws and attached to the Pray pendant for a completely different look. Here is another way I wore the Pray pendant as a bracelet.
50 IS NOT OLD | SMALL WARDROBE CHALLENGE RECAPThe jewelry was changed up just slightly. I wore the same earrings for every outfit, they went with everything.

  1. I am so excited to have found your website and blog! Looking forward to seeing more. Thank you! 🙂

  2. I love the sweater and jeans! Just those two are my favorite options. I like my outfits to be simple yet stylish. Carrying a “little” extra weight around the middle makes me not want to have too many clothing layers.

tHANKS FOR THE RECAP, TANIA! Believe me, I have tried ALOT of your outfits with things I already own or even bought a few new items from watching your posts. BUT I take the worst selfies ever so won’t be sending a pic! I hope you are feeling a little better about your sweet Grandma. Have a blessed Monday!

  4. Love seeing them altogether . Simple changes can make all the difference . Hope you are able to take some time for yourself and recharge after all that has happened recently .

  5. I love the different looks you created using simple pieces from your closet!!

  6. I recently bought my first pair of Earl Jeans at Stein Mart. I had never heard of them before but really like them.

  7. Hey Tania, I actually did something similar this week on my blog…taking a basic “underneath” layer and showing how by adding one different item over top, you can change the whole outfit. I think these kinds of posts are so useful and I love seeing when other bloggers do it…and I think I’ll do it again soon!

You can see it here if you want https://fashionschlub.com/2016/11/09/simple-formula-for-umpteen-outfits/

Of course, you have better jewelry – ALWAYS – ha!

Hope you have a better week ahead. I hope we *all* do 🙂

  10. It’s good to see all the outfits side by side, you can appreciate the differences and the challenge has given me lots of ideas for what to pack for a long weekend away when luggage space is limited. I could travel in boots and jacket then mix things up with accessories and sneakers!

  11. You created fabulous looks, Tania! I think scarves, jewelry, bags and shoes can really help change up a look. I love your necklaces and as a scarf lover want your scarf! 🙂
