Sitting At My Feet With Adoration In Her Eyes

Lucy Lu is my motley little dog. You might see her occasionally photobombing me in some of my fashion shoots. Lucy now has the life of Riley, but it hasn’t always been that way.

The railroad tracks ran behind my prior house, and one day, when looking out my window, my SIL spotted a small Yorkie-looking dog. We went outside and called for it, but it quickly ran away. Over the course of the next three days, I would catch sight of the dog, but it always ran off before I could get to it.

One morning, as I left to drive to work, the dog started running down the road in front of my car. My son was standing in his driveway, which was right next door, so I honked the horn so he would see the dog coming his way. I had hoped that he could catch it for me, but when she heard the horn, she stopped in her tracks and looked at me. I opened my door and called to her, and she came right up to my car and jumped in. 😳

The poor thing was covered in mud and burs, so I called my dog groomer and asked if she could give her a bath and haircut. I tried to find her owners, but no one ever claimed her, so Lucy Lu became MY dog.

I don’t know if she had been mistreated, but it certainly appeared that she had. She had no idea what a toy was, acted like she had never seen a treat, and would squeal if you walked too close to her. Over time, she has learned about treats and doesn’t squeal as often, but she still won’t do toys.

Most of the time, you can find Lucy Lu in my shadow. She follows my every move and is always close by. She has also become protective of me, and if someone comes into the house, she is sure to alert me, even if it is Joe. When I’m away from the house, she never barks at anyone.

This morning, I sat down in a chair and covered up with a blanket. It didn’t long until Lucy Lu walked over and curled up on the blanket on top of my feet. As I reached down to pet her, she was looking up at me with adoration in her eyes.

Maybe Lucy loves me most because I’m the one who feeds her. But I don’t think it is that since Joe is the one who sneaks her food off his plate. I think the reason is because I’m the one who saved her from being lost, alone, and afraid.

Titus 3:4-7

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

Lucy Lu isn’t the only one who has been saved. Jesus Christ came into this world to save everyone who was lost, alone, and afraid. He washes away our sins like Lucy’s dirt was washed from her coat. He sustains us during times of trouble and guides us throughout our day.

I hope when Jesus looks down at His feet, He sees me there, looking up with adoration, for He is the one who has rescued me.

To God Goes The Glory!

Have A Blessed Day!

Such a beautiful analogy. I too was rescued by Jesus and have experienced many of the same benefits as Lucy Lu has. I’ve been washed, fed, loved, comforted, clothed and provided for in every way as I’ve grown in God’s grace and wisdom.
Tania, thank you for this lovely reminder. It brought tears to my eyes and thanksgiving in my heart. Blessings!
