SEVEN FALL SWEATERS THAT ARE BUDGET FRIENDLY

Some of the prices of clothing have gotten out of hand. Designer pieces are outrageous, and we end up paying for the “name.” Other items are expensive because of the materials such as silk, leather, or cashmere. And, for some items, I am willing to pay more when there are unique details, or I am going to an event that calls for a special outfit. Today’s items are affordable, and I think they all are unique in their own way.

In the colder months of the year, a sweater and jeans are my normal go-to unless I switch the sweater out for a sweatshirt. I want something that keeps me warm, especially since I have to make several trips outside to take Lucy out for a potty break.

Lucy doesn’t care what I look like, but the neighbors probably prefer me in my sweaters and jeans instead of my PJs and robe. Lol! The other morning, I went outside to take the trash to the trash bin. While I was at the bin, in my pajamas, the FedEx truck drove up and parked between me and the door.

I had no choice but to stand there, in my pajamas, while we came over and handed me my packages. Lol! My pajamas were nice, and I was covered, but I didn’t have on a bra. Hahaha! I was smart enough to grab a magazine that I was throwing away and hold it up against my chest.

When I got back in the house, Joe was sitting at his computer. The window right beside his chair overlooks the driveway, so I asked him if he saw the FedEx guy drive up. Then I told him what happened, and he laughed way too hard.

In his smirky way, he said, “I guess you’ll think twice before heading outside like that again.” I have to admit that he is right, and I probably won’t do that again. But that’s not what I told him.

I told him, “yes; I won’t do that again. From now on, you need to take out the trash!” HA! He just laughed because that probably won’t happen either.

This was the first sweater that I tried on when I started this post, and I told my DIL, “this is staying in my closet.” This is such a great sweater, and the quality is very nice! It is a great weight, and I love the fact that it is 100% cotton. I am a sucker for a cable-knit design, and this one is beautiful.

This blue cable-knit cotton turtleneck comes in a wide variety of colors, and I am styling, and keeping, a camel one in this post also. I could honestly grab every color in this sweater and be happy. This is my style to a tee, and this is a look that I would wear shopping, out to eat, running errands, etc.

I love the way this sweater drapes, and here is a photo of the length from the back. You can see that the cable-knit pattern extends to the back of the sweater. I am wearing a medium, and it is plenty roomy for me.

You’ve seen me carry this leather camel handbag multiple times for a good reason. The bag is a great size, and the camel color is a great neutral. This handbag would be great for ladies who never want to change out their handbag since it could be carried all year round.

This sweater has the same colors as one of my best sellers from last year. I loved that color-block cardigan so much, that I ordered a different version today. It is the Z1 dark gray if you want to take a look at it too.

The cardigan was a fine gauge knit, but this sweater has more texture. It is nubby, but it is still soft. The texture is something that I look for since that is a unique feature also. I like my clothing to have details that make them stand out, even if only in a small way. This color-block sweater is not as heavy as the cable-knit turtleneck, so it would be better for those who live in climates that don’t get quite as cold. I am wearing a medium, and you can see that the sweater is plenty roomy.

This color-block sweater would be great to wear with leggings since it is long in the back and would keep everything covered. I love the deep slit at the sides which keeps the sweater from pulling when you sit down. This sweater comes in lots of different colors, including several solids.

The chestnut-colored notched ankle boots are another item that is a perfect neutral. These buttery soft boots have a pointy toe to help elongate your legs, and the chunky block heel is sturdy for walking. If I hadn’t read the description that said these were faux-suede, I would have sworn they were real leather. I am wearing my usual size 9, and they fit great, but a tiny bit loose. Since I rarely wear socks, they would probably be perfect if I had a pair of sock on.

I thought this heart sweater was such a cute sweater. Instead of getting the traditional red heart, I decided to go a different route and choose navy and white. I think this sweater would look great any time, not just on Valentine’s Day.

This sweater also has a nice drape to it which I love since it hides my tummy. The ribbed band at the bottom hugs my hips, and that allowed the sweater to billow enough to hide my rolls. I am wearing a medium, and you can see that the sizing is generous.

Here is the back view so that you can gauge the length. You could pull the sweater down further, but I like the draped look myself. This comes in several color combinations, including the traditional red heart with a cream sweater.

You might have noticed that I have the same pair of bootcut jeans on in most of the photos. You probably didn’t notice that they were pull-on bootcut jeggings! I think these jeans look great on, and I love the tiny white strip that looks like these have been ironed many times before. I am wearing my usual size 1, and they fit me great.

PS: my Tory Burch McGraw tote is sold out of this color, but it is available in black! And, it is on sale for 30% off which brings the price down by $120.00!!! Merry Christmas to YOU!

This black and white striped sweater is sooo nice, and the quality is great. I love the button detail at the shoulders, and this is a sweater that can be dressed up or down.

I figured that everyone could envision what the sweater would look like with black pants or white/cream pants, so I decided to style them with jeans. This is not as dressy as the other options would be, but this is probably the way that I would wear it most of the time.

The turtleneck sweater fits me really well, but you could size up if you want an oversized look. Since this sweater isn’t as long as the others, the oversize look would work better with it. I am wearing a medium sweater for these photos.

I know that you’ve seen me wear these black leather boots before. During the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I bought these boots in black and in tan, and I LOVE them. The different texture detail on the toe of the boots is what caught my attention, and it is what has me grabbing for them all of the time. I like unique details such as this. They run TTS, and I am wearing a 9 in these.

This batwing bright red sweater is perfect for the holidays! Like the black and white striped top above, you could choose to wear this dressy or with jeans like I did today. Adding a sparkly necklace with some black velvet pants would have HOLIDAYS written all over it!

I added a black leather Vince Camuto handbag that I’ve had since last year to make my boots and tie the look together. Leopard print shoes or handbags would also look great with this outfit, and it would give it a modern flair. Here are some options for you in shoes and bags.

Here is the look from the back, and this sweater isn’t as long as some of the others. It definitely isn’t long enough to wear with leggings.

I’m not sure how I feel about this sweater. It is sure to get looks and comments, but for some reason, it reminds me of my high school letter jacket. It could be because our mascot was a wildcat, and we had a large cat on some of the t-shirts and jackets. I’m wearing a medium in the sweater, and it is a nice, thick sweater, and it fits me really well.

I’m wearing a pair of high waist black skinny jeans that I bought last year. Everyone needs a pair of black jeans, you can wear them all year round. One of my favorite ways to wear black jeans is with a white t-shirt or a white button-up shirt. I also think that a blue denim jacket looks great with black jeans.

This is the same cable-knit sweater as the blue one above. I love this camel color and I love wearing this color with black. Camel seems to be my color this year, and I can’t get enough of it. Every year, I seem to buy one color than any other, and this year it is camel.

I paired the sweater and black jeans with the camel block heeled boots that I wore earlier. For jewelry, I wore my large hoop AVI earrings, the Ryder multi-strand necklace, and my David Yurman bracelet.

Here is the look from the back so that you can see the length of the sweater. It also shows you a good look at the heels on these ankle boots.

Plus, I added a camel leather crossbody wallet to tie all of the colors together. Little choices like that are what make an outfit look put-together like you thought about it instead of just grabbing something.

  1. Hello!
I only just found your blog this evening so I’m sorry to be asking questions about a post you wrote in November of 2021!!! But I saw you in the lavender/blue cable sweater on Pinterest this evening and I’ve been looking for a sweater EXACTLY like that for a long time!! If this isn’t too personal of a question, could you tell me what size you are wearing of that sweater? It looks like it will hang just the way I’m hoping it will, but I’m not sure if I should order the large or extra large. You look fantastic in yours!! But if you don’t feel comfortable telling the size, I
understand. I just needed some kind of idea for myself and I think we are built about the same.
    Thanks!
    Laura

    1. Welcome to my blog, Laura. I looked back at that post, and I’m wearing a medium. For sizing reference, I’m 5’6″ tall, and weigh around 150. I usually wear a medium or a large in tops, and a size 8 in jeans. The great thing is…it is still available for purchase!

Love the way the red sweater looks on you. This would be a great option for a house Christmas party. very comfortable and chic.

  3. I love the color block sweater and the jeggings. I have to get a pair! The cat sweater reminds me of high school, because it looks like a sports uniform, or football gear.

  4. If the cat sweater just had the design on one arm, I might be more open to it. Love all of the others, especially the red one. They all look great on you.

  5. Donna Robinson says:
