FASHION OVER 50

HOW TO MAKE LIFE EASIER

50 Is Not Old | Make Life EasierI HATE housework, period….exclamation point! I hate sweeping, moping, dusting, vacuuming, doing dishes, etc.  I figure that most of you probably feel the same way as me, so I have been on a quest to find products to make live easier.50 Is Not Old | Make Life Easier

When it comes to mopping, I hate getting my hands dirty trying to wring out the mop head.  I have tried other mops, but I like the O’Cedar Easy Wring Spin Mop best. This one keeps you from having to bend over, and it can wring the mop head almost completely dry. All you do is put the mop in the little spin cycle, and step on the lever as much as you want to get the water out. Clean hands – woohoo.50 Is Not Old | Make Life Easier

Let’s see a show of hands from those of you who enjoy ironing. I know I see Sandy’s hand up. She takes great pride in a crease that will cut you. Me, not so much. When I read about Downy Wrinkle Release spray, I was a little skeptical. I bought a bottle and took it with me on my trip to Tennessee. After everything is packed, it always comes out wrinkled. I took a top and sprayed it with the Downy, then smoothed it out, and let it dry while I was getting ready. I was shocked at how good it turned out. Don’t get me wrong, it does NOT look like you ironed the garment, but it no longer looks wrinkled. Here is the bottle I bought, and here is a travel size canister.50 Is Not Old | Make Life Easier

I found these little beads online and I just had to share. This is for cleaning round objects that are hard to get your hand in, like your coffee pot, or wine decanters. You pour in the beads, swish them around for about 2 minutes, and that is all. My coffee urn is stained something fierce, I think this will be a future purchase.50 Is Not Old | Make Life Easier

I keep a roll of this fashion tape handy at all times.  It is perfect for hems that come un-done, keeping bra straps from showing, or I put a small piece between the buttons on my shirts to keep from having a peek-a-boo show. Lol!50 Is Not Old | Make Life Easier

When I go to the grocery store, I usually come out with 8 or 10 little shopping bags. I hate having to make several trips from the car to the house, so I grab as many bags as I can in each hand, and then struggle to open the gate to the house. My grandmother had a saying, “Laziness overloads.” I’m afraid I am guilty. When I saw these handles, I thought that this looks like the perfect little helper. It would appear that I was not the only over-loader out there. Hahaha50 Is Not Old | Make Life Easier

Speaking of laziness, this is the product for me. iRobot Roomba Vacuum cleaner robot will take care of all your vacuuming needs. I have a robot cleaner for the swimming pool, so why not one for the floors? They navigate your room and backs up when it hits an object. I have actually heard great things about these little guys. This one had fantastic reviews.50 Is Not Old | Make Life EasierWhile I hate cleaning, I LOVE shopping. It is the paying for the purchases that I hate. Haha Let’s talk about this outfit. Gray and yellow are two of my favorite color combinations. I am addicted to yellow this year, probably because it just makes me think of spring. Sunny and happy are the emotions I feel wearing yellow. If yellow is not a color that looks good up close to your skin, then wear a scarf to soften the look. Or wear yellow in the pants, shoes, or purse. Here are a couple yellow cardigans that you will like. Even though one is blue, it comes in yellow on the website.

Here are a couple plus size cardigans.

My dark gray ankle pants are old, like really, really old. They are a pair I bought from Old Navy eons ago. I like dark gray, it goes well with lighter colors, and slims your lower half. Here are several nice pairs. Remember, if the picture shows a different color, the website has the item in the color I am talking about.

Here are the plus size versions.

I have on the same shoes that I wore here, here, and here. They are an old Kathy Van Zeeland pair that I bought at the QVC outlet store here in Grundy. Here are several similar pairs that range from 14.99 to 355.00. Can you pick out the most expensive pair?

My flirty pleated hem tank top is a real show-stopper. I bought this at Classy Closet, but their website seems to be down at this time. I will look for similar ones for you.

50 Is Not Old | Make Life EasierGoodness, there are a lot of links in this post. The remaining ones are going to be a little more simple.

Purse is Aimee Kestenberg, Similar | Similar. Tassel necklace is Premier Designs, Similar, Similar.  My silver Boyfriend watch was a gift, Similar, Similar. My snakeskin bangle was purchased at the vintage fashion show, Similar, Similar. And my Chloe & Isabel wrap bracelet and earrings finish up the jewelry. Remember, if you make a purchase and do not already have a merchandiser with Chloe & Isabel, type my name in the Find A Merchandiser slot. Thanks!

WHEW! Saturday is rough on this gurl.

  1. I want that gray pleated top!

  2. Love your style! I noticed you buy some very nice things from qvc in Grundy. We will be driving to Florida down interstate 77 in a few weeks and I was wondering if it would be worth making a side trip there? Is it hit and miss shopping there? Thank you for any reply you can give.

    1. From Interstate 77 it is about 1 1/2 hours to Grundy. You never know what they will have in your size. I would HATE to tell you to come, and then you not find anything. But, if you don’t mind a twisty, curvy road, then come on down. Lol!

Thanks Tania, maybe on the way home since we won’t be in such a hurry to get there. It might take some convincing for my hubby anyway, lol!

  3. Rebecca Stephens says:

Thanks for the tips! And so enjoy reading your blog everyday. Always a bright spot. Love your outfit.

  4. I love the color combo and your outfit is wonderful and so Springy! After reading your blog now for the past month or two I realize I am really missing out by not having a QVC outlit store nearby. What great finds you post. Jealous!

  5. sandypatti says:

Great tips – thanks for that. We just bought a Roomba and she is my BFF – I turn her on, and leave the house, and done. Your outfit is lovely, I really appreciate the color combinations. Happy Easter to you and your family, xox

  6. Tania,
I love your yellow & grey. You look Springtime perfect!

  7. Tania- sending you wishes for a happy and blessed Easter.
Love this combination- I would not have thought of it without seeing it here! Love the snake bracelet- saw that and hopped on Ebay ASAP and found something close!
PS- if anyone has a Roomba- how well do they really work?
Again, Happy Easter to you and everyone!

Once again you’ve used a color combo that I have not thought about, but love! I especially like the different values of gray and then combined with sunny yellow!!! You really get me thinking about how I can use things I have and mix in a new way. Thanks for the inspiration. I have a Roomba named Dusty and he does a darn good job. I still need to do a thorough job a couple times a month, but he has been a big time saver. Blessings to you!

  9. I love your tips !!!! Thanks your outfit looks great…. my skin tone is olive, so I have trouble with greys and yellows, but it looks great on you …..

  10. jbstanwick says:

I am right with you on the yellow and gray, LOVE IT!

  11. Happy Easter Tania! I guess I have the best thing going—my husband does a lot of housework! He was raised by a single mom and he learned how to do housework to help her out. He is better than I am because he has some muscle to put behind it. Tania, do you have Charming Charlie, the Limited, or New York and Co. in your area? I know you would love these stores! Charming Charlie is phenomenal for accessories. You can find good clothing at reasonable prices in these stores. I love yellow with navy at this time of year. That’s a really cute top with the ruffle. Those of you trying to lose some pounds, I am a Lifetime Weight Watcher and it is the BEST program out there. I lost 72 lbs. and have kept it off for 42 years. I still weigh in to be accountable. My daughter-in-law and I watch My 600 lb. Life on TLC. We call it our SCARED STRAIGHT program because neither of us want to go in that direction. 🙂 🙂 Believe me, it will motivate you! But sometimes I want to kick some butt with the enablers. Well, blessings because Jesus has set us free. Amazing love!!!

    1. In my area Sharon, we don’t have much. Those stores are about two hours away, so I don’t get to shop there often. I really like the Limited and New York and Co., but when I go into Charming Charlie’s I get overwhelmed. If I got to go there more often, it would be a different story. I love navy and yellow together also. I bought a navy & white scarf yesterday at the outlet store, that I plan on wearing with yellow.

  12. Tania, I too would like to thank-you for all you do for us older women. I am way over sixty but I still want to look fashionable. You are such an encouragement to me……I have decided to work on my weight issues because I want to look as cute as you do in those outfits. I went shopping the other day. UGH! I am not a plus size but I am on my way. 🙁 I did buy a bright pink sweater from Lands End…..just like the one you found on the web. I almost bought the yellow one but thought it may have been too bright. Maybe I will have to re-think that one. Have a blessed Easter Day.

  13. My husband and I have fond memories of the robot chasing the cat…wish I had made a video! Have a blessed Easter, Tania!

  14. Wait til you discover the robot floor mopped by roomba! Heaven!

  15. You look MAAWW-valous dalingggg. 🙂 Did you get a haircut? Looks a little shorter today. No joke Tania, I get up some mornings to go to work and run to my laptop to see what you are wearing so I can get an idea of what to wear, myself. I do hope you have a wonderful Easter tomorrow, the Lord is RISEN. Thank you for all you bring to the net for us over 50 gals 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Ruth. I just have my hair tucked behind my ears in this picture. I am fixing to get my hair cut shorter though.

  16. This is just one of my favorite outfits on you! So very chic! I must have been channeling you yesterday when I was shopping. I bought a nice lightweight white scarf with random yellow and black polka dots and a yellow beaded necklace and earrings. Now I see how great the combination looks. You probably don’t realize how many women you are helping to feel better in their clothes. A few ideas go a long way! Thank you!

    1. That’s great, Sallie! I love yellow, it is so cheery and fun!???

  17. I love your new hairstyle! So cute!

    1. It was just getting on my nerves, so I stuck it behind my ears. Haha?

  18. I am a gardener, not a housekeeper. Sometimes my house prays for a rainy day, so that I might stay inside and tend to it. 🙁

  19. Susan Marcinek says:

Just want to say I love your blog! I am 55, and find it a struggle to find that fine line between not looking like I want to be in my 20’s, or looking matronly! To complicate things, I am a plus size, so I really appreciate your efforts to always include options for me! As I work to lose weight, I am inspired by your pictures; you have the look I’d like to achieve eventually. Rock on, girlfriend!

    1. Thanks Susan! I go shopping with my friends, and I see the struggles they sometime go through trying to find clothing. Thanks for the encouragement.

  20. I absolutely love your blog. I just found it through a friend. I look forward to reading it everyday. Love your style!

    1. Thanks so much Susan. Be sure to thank your friend for me. ?

  21. I just spoke with Amanda at Classy Closet. They are uploading new items for the website and it should be up by this afternoon. Until then, if you are interested in the gray top I have on, or something else I have posted, you can email her at classycloset149@gmail.com or phone 2762025407. She is a doll, you will love her!

  22. I wanted to comment on the robot vacuum. I bought myself a Neato robot vacuum. I don’t know why I waited so long. That thing is amazing. He vacuums twice a week and does an amazing job. I highly recommend it.

    1. I have heard these things are great!

  23. I love this look!! This is a must have!

  24. Teresa Stout says:

Love the grey blouse. Could you please post the link to Classy Closet. I can’t seem to find it.

  25. I discovered your blog a couple of days ago and have since spent several hours reading all your past posts. I love it! You have a great sense of style and your posts are always humorous and uplifting . Please keep showing us that fifty is NOT old.

  26. As always, I enjoy your post. Detesting cleaning, too, I am going to order the beads. Sounds like they will be helpful cleaning out water bottles that have junk in the bottom from smoothie mix and other decanters. I have used the Downey product before and found it helpful while also attaching another hanger to the bottom of the garment to help smooth out the wrinkles. I hate ironing, too!

My dream gift would be a cleaning robot, vacuuming the house while not torturing our cats too much. Someday…

Your combination of gray and yellow inspired me today. I stir away from the darker shades, loving bright ones, but softening it was a lighter sweater choice today convinces me to pull my gray Denim & Co. slacks today while running errands.

Thanks for helping me think outside the box! Now, if I could just find a way to expand space in my tiny closet. That might be a great topic for you in the future. Once I fold sweaters, tops, etc. and they are out of sight in my dresser, they are forgotten and seldom worn.

    Have a great day!

  27. Thanks for all of the tips. Your outfit is so cute and your hair looks great! Happy Easter.

  28. Thanks for the great tips on making life easier! I do find if I roll my clothes when I pack for a trip they come out less wrinkled. I love the color combination of yellow and gray and it looks fab on you! Happy Easter!

  29. Thanks for the tips. Some I’m familiar with others not but will check them out. Also thanks for the pics and links, definitely helps. That top is so adorable on you. I haven’t tried grey and yellow before but will now. Have a fabulous day and blessed Easter.
