What It Means to Give God the Glory (And How to Do It Daily)

Every day, I end my blog posts with the phrase: “To GOD Goes The Glory.”

You’ve probably seen it so many times that you don’t even think about it anymore. But have you ever wondered what it really means?

What does it mean to give God the glory? And, more importantly, how can we do that in our daily lives?

All Glory Belongs to God

Glory is honor, praise, and adoration. It’s giving credit where credit is due—recognizing that everything we have, everything we do, and everything we accomplish is ultimately because of Him.

You’ve likely seen professional athletes or award winners point to the sky after a big victory. It’s a public way of saying, “This wasn’t me—this was God.” They’re giving God the credit, recognizing that their talent, opportunities, and success came from Him.

In a similar way, ending my posts with “To GOD Goes The Glory” is my public declaration that nothing I do is possible without Him.

But what about those of us who aren’t professional athletes or celebrities? How can we practically give God the glory in our everyday lives?

Give God the Glory With Your Words

What we say matters. Our words have the power to build others up or tear them down. They can be filled with love and encouragement—or criticism and negativity.

I remember years ago making the conscious decision to stop cussing. At the time, it felt like a small thing, but looking back, I see how powerful that choice was. Words reflect what’s in our hearts, and I wanted my words to align with the heart of Jesus.

Ephesians 4:29 (NIV):
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Giving God the glory with our words means:

• Giving thanks and praising God daily.
• Choosing kindness over criticism.
• Speaking truth instead of gossip.
• Using words that encourage and uplift others.

Give God the Glory With Your Actions

Actions speak louder than words. We can say we love God, but if our actions don’t reflect His love, our words mean little.

I remember as a child hearing, “Do as I say, not as I do.” Even then, it confused me. How can you tell me to do one thing but live in a completely different way?

The reality is, if we want to glorify God, our lives should reflect His goodness—not just in what we say, but in how we live.

Colossians 3:17 (NIV):
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Giving God the glory through our actions means:

• Serving others with humility.
• Being honest and trustworthy.
• Responding with patience instead of anger.
• Living with integrity, even when no one is watching.

Every small act of kindness, every moment of grace, and every choice to do what’s right—even when it’s hard—is a way to glorify God.

Give God the Glory With Your Body

Our bodies are not just ours—they are gifts from God, designed to honor and serve Him. When we take care of our physical health, we’re not just benefiting ourselves; we’re honoring the One who created us.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV):
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Giving God the glory with our bodies means:

• Making healthy choices in food and exercise.
• Getting enough rest and taking care of our mental health.
• Avoiding harmful substances that damage our bodies.
• Dressing in a way that reflects our identity as children of God.

It’s not about being perfect—it’s about being intentional in how we treat the bodies He has given us.

Giving God the Glory in Everyday Life

You don’t have to be a celebrity, an athlete, or a preacher to glorify God. In fact, the most powerful ways we glorify Him often happen in the quiet, ordinary moments of life:

When you pause to thank Him before a meal.
When you spend time in His Word.
When you show love to someone who doesn’t deserve it.
When you work hard and do your best, even when no one is watching.

Every moment is an opportunity to point back to Him.

Heavenly Father, thank You for who You are and for all You have done in my life. I want to glorify You—not just with my words, but with my actions, my body, and my heart. Help me to be mindful of the way I speak, the choices I make, and the way I treat others. Let everything I do reflect Your goodness and bring You honor. May my life be a testimony of Your love and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
