Pattern Mixing – My Version
Last Wednesday I read a post about mixing patterns. Jo-lynne Shane did a post on wearing stripes and leopard print. She opted for a black & white striped top, black skinny jeans, and leopard print shoes. Of course she looked super cute, as always. But, what caught my attention was, she said, “You may even have most of these items in your closet”. So, I decided to shop my closet, and do my own version.
I have a black & white striped top, but I thought it would be fun to wear the striped pants. They kind of remind me of the wicked witch’s legs that were under the house in the Wizard of Oz. My husband said he couldn’t see straight after looking at them. lol A cute pair of black flats from Fergalicious were added, and a black purse called The Sak.
The scarf is actually a snow leopard print, instead of the classic brown and black leopard print. I bought the scarf at Target for 14.99. I like the oblong style, you can always tie a knot at the ends to make it an infinity scarf if you like. My jacket is a suede Dennis Basso from the QVC overstock store, and I bought it for 25.00. Here is a similar one from QVC. The shoes were then changed to my Isaac Mizrahi booties, again from the QVC outlet store for 25.00.
Of course I wasn’t satisfied with the shoe change, so I tried one more pair. The Marc Fisher black booties, again from the outlet store, brought another look to the outfit. These kind of look like the boots the witch had on, with the pointy toe and all. I’m not sure that was the look I was going after.
The white cable knit sweater is so old, it is probably 20 years old. Some items just never go out of style. My accessories were black & white silver drop earrings from Cato, and a silver boyfriend watch that was a gift from my best friend.
I added a jingle bell vintage bracelet, which drove my husband crazy. I ended up taking that off before the end of the day. My ring is also vintage, and is made from brass. The cool thing about the ring is that the band is open in the back, so you can adjust the size by squeezing it together or pulling it apart.
My son was making fun of me, calling me too cool, so I threw on the sunglasses to ham it up with him. I thought you might get a kick out of seeing the pictures. I am not the best at the fishy face pout, oh well.
So, what’s in your closet?

Found your blog! So down to earth and you have a great sense of style. I too am over 50 and love fashion and getting dressed every day! I have toyed with starting a blog and am petrified! I feel like there are just not enough blogs for women over 40. Keep up the great work! I am officially a follower 🙂
Thanks Kimberly! I am certainly proud to have you as a reader. And, that is exactly why I started a blog. There are a lot out there, but not nearly enough. Just take the plunge and be sure to let me know when you do.
Love your outfit and especially the red jacket and red booties. Have to check out QVC again.
I hardly ever order from QVC, I just wait to see if the outlet store will get something in. Lol!
This is your best outfit yet! So cute, so simple (nearly everyone would already have some form of these things in their closet), so chic. You’ve got a winner here.
I like this one the best also. It’s a matter of trial and error on my part. lol
Tres cute! Red, leopard, and stripes … all my fav things in one fun look!
Thanks for sharing with Fun Fashion Friday! We’d love to see you back next week!

You look great. It’s so helpful to see a real person styling an outfit. I can refer to your blog and put together an entire outfit… head to toe. Thanks so much and keep blogging!
