PATTERN MIXING MADE EASY
Bittersweet. That has been my word for the day. I spent most of today cleaning out my drawers at work and deciding what to take to the house with me. I am such a packrat it would appear. I have paid bills and receipts in my desk from 2010. I really do not think that I need to keep these things any longer. But, at the same time, I did come across some precious memories that will definitely be coming to the house with me on Friday.
I came across pictures from when the kids were smaller, and a picture of Joe when we first got married. He was so young and THIN! I didn’t find a picture of me but I was the very same way. Evidently, wrinkles are not the only thing that comes on with age. Lol! Then I found two Christmas cards in one of my desk drawers and at first, I thought they were a couple of blank cards that I had throw in there. But, when I pulled them out I noticed writing on the inside and I recognized that writing immediately. They were both from my Granny Meadows who passed away a couple of years ago at the age of 103. When Granny sent you a card there was always a huge long written note on it. However, when she started getting in her late 90’s she started writing less and less on the cards until at the end there would only be a signature. I am so glad that I found these two cards and now I have to find a place to put them.
Today’s outfit is a great one for every day. It is very soft and when I looked at the materials it said 60% cotton and 40% modal. What the heck is a modal? Well, I am glad that you asked since I looked it up on Google. Lol! Evidently, it is a semi-synthetic rayon, all I know is that rayon helps from having to iron so I am cool with that. This has a pintuck design on the henley style chest which gives it a little character. I am wearing the blue and ivory dot design but this top comes in several solid colors as well as one more print design.
I thought the Janalee necklace looked great with this top. The marble teardrop stones mimic the dot design of the top and match it perfectly. The chain is a heavier style box link style which is not the normal design that most of my Plunder necklaces have. I am wearing a simple white scroll design pair of earrings called the White Drop. I think that someone got tired of thinking up names when it came time to name this one. Lol! These are extremely lightweight and easy to wear. You can’t see my bracelet in this photo but you can below, and it is my Opal bling magnetic bracelet. I am partial to Opals so I have worn this bracelet a lot this summer. If you notice, I wear a Black Opal ring every day, I never take it off. It was a 10-year anniversary gift from Joe. ❤️
I decided to do a little pattern mixing with a pair of striped linen and cotton pants. Since both the top and the pants are in the same color family it is very easy to pair the two together even though the patterns are different. This pair of pants has a design detail that I am not showing you today. It has a paper bag waist that is cinched at the waist. It is a really cute design and one that I WANT to wear so badly. However, I am the thickest at my waistline and tucking a shirt into my pants just highlights the problem area. For those who don’t have this problem then you will want to look at this style because it is adorable.

So glad you found those mementos in your desk! This outfit looks so cool and comfy and I like the pattern mix!
I retired two years ago and when I walked out the door after 39 years of service, I had two full boxes of shoes??. Yeppers, shoes. I was known as the “shoe hound”. Because of my work, I needed construction type boots available at all times and also casual office wear. When I brought the boxes home I kept only a few pair.
Enjoy your new adventure, I have loved mine so far. I like the the outfit today and mixed patterns. Too me it is a youthful look.
i am so excited for you starting this new journey in life! Congratulations! I know your other business will be so much more with the extra time, but please don’t stop your blog! I feel like we are friends even though you wouldn’t know me from Adam if you saw me on the street. Lol…I really enjoy reading your sometimes funny, inspirational, lovely posts. Enjoy each moment and breathe!
Nice top. Would look great with jeans on cooler weather. Enjoy retirement. You will be so busy you will wonder how you found time to work ?

Your courage to leave your comfort zone has inspired me since I found your blog. Here is yet another chance to breathe deeply, have faith instead of fear, and leave your comfort zone for a new adventure! Blessings!
Nancy, I have been preaching about comfort zones for a long time and I have really, really expanded my zones. Whew! The more I expand the harder the next one is. Lol! Breaking through the barrier! Breathing deeply!! Faith instead of fear!!!
It’s sad, scary and exciting all at the same time, but it’s seems you have succeeded in your new ventures. My best wishes to you Tania!!!
Thanks so much, Carolyn! You are right that it is exciting and scary at the same time!
I totally relate…I am retiring at the end of this month so have been busy cleaning out file drawers, deleting emails and deleting files on the main drive of our network…all in working towards getting ALL cleaned up for the next person. I’ve been with this attorney for 23 years, so there’s lots of stuff. However, I’m looking forward to continuing life’s adventure…at a little slower pace. Hang in there. It will be good…you’ve got God on your side to rely on.
I figured it up yesterday, 23 years is how long that I have been working at the lumber company also. I am looking forward to the new adventures and trying really hard not to doubt or second guess myself.
I love mixing patterns and you nailed it with the look you’re styling! today! if fact, I mix a lot of patterns in my home decor too!
I can’t wait to meet you in person next Monday!!! We will have so much fun talking blogging, Rodan + Fields, and husbands. Lol!!!
