Do you remember the song by Florida Georgia Line? It’s like one, two, three – Just as easy as can be, and that is how I feel about this outfit. This is one reason why I love monochromatic dressing; it is so simple and easy and still manages to look amazing. I’ve styled all black, white, and gray before, but I think that this is the first time that I’ve styled a navy monochromatic look.

One thing that I will warn you about, there are a bazillion different shades of navy. If you want to do a monochromatic navy look, you should probably buy items from the same series. What one brand calls navy might look totally different from what another brand is calling navy.

I learned this tip from our lumber company…when you are putting shingles on your roof, order in enough to do the entire roof so that they will all come from the same batch. Variations can happen in the manufacturing process, so make sure all the shingles come from the same batch.

That is how I feel about the color navy. If you want your monochromatic outfit to look the same, then order all of the pieces from the same company.

The name of this color is actually India Ink. When I searched for the pieces, I typed the color name in the brand’s search bar, and all of their items in this color came up. Then I could pick and choose what I wanted to style, and I was confident that the pieces would match.

Step one

To keep any outfit simple, think of it in three parts. There are times when I start with a top, a bottom, or even the complimenter piece. No matter which piece you start with, you need to build from there. For this look, I started with the star of the outfit, the scarf front cardigan. As soon as I saw this beautiful, lightweight cardigan, I knew that I had to have it.

I am a huge fan of navy and green, so this really spoke to me. The tribal look to the scarf pattern is so beautiful, and the white edging adds a crisp look. This is part of the Travelers Collection which means wrinkle-free. Those of you traveling or going on vacation need to check out this collection so that your clothing isn’t a wrinkled mess once you unpack your suitcases.

I am wearing a size 1 in this cardigan, and it fits me great. BTW, wouldn’t this look amazing with an all-white look also?

Step Two

Since I started with the complimenter piece, I figured that I had better find a top to go with it. Searching by the color, I soon decided on this reversible tank that you can wear as a scoop or high neck. This is the same wrinkle-free fabric, and I can’t tell you how happy I am not to have to get out my steamer when I wear this. Because I live 1 1/2 hours away from almost everything, I love having something to wear that will look great when I finally arrive. I HATE getting to my destination and looking like I slept in my clothing. Lol!

The top is machine washable, and I am wearing a size 1 in it also.

Step three

I bet you can’t guess what step three is. Yep, it is now time to pick out a bottom unless you want to get many people pointing and staring. Lol! I decided to go ahead and stick with the monochromatic theme to keep things simple and easy. The Travelers No Tummy pants in the matching India Ink color look so chic, and they won’t wrinkle either! These pull-on pants are so comfortable, and they always look amazing and polished. The straight leg design falls perfectly on the leg giving you a sleek look. I am wearing a size 1 in the pants, and I think this size fits me greatly.

Even though I only said three steps, I actually have another step. That is adding jewelry, shoes, and a handbag. You need to “finish” the outfit, and that is what accessories are. They are the icing, and not many of us want a cake without icing. So, why would you wear an outfit without the finishing touches?

I didn’t grab a great photo of these faux-pearl hoop earrings, but they are definitely something that you need to check out. These look so nice, and I have worn them several times, even though this is the first time that I’ve shared them on the blog. The faux-pearls are on both sides of the hoops, so you never have to worry about them turning over and looking bare. The necklace that I am wearing is an old one that I’ve had for a while, but I noticed that Chico’s was having a sale on their jewelry, and a lot of items were at 40% off. Here are some necklaces that you should look at.

Also, I didn’t want to leave you barefooted, so here is the link to my neutral suede heels, and I’ll link to a few other neutral shoes for you. Neutral shoes can go with anything, so they are what I wear a lot over the year.

I am celebrating this month because it is Joe’s Birthday month. He told me that I couldn’t make a big deal out of his birthday. I don’t think that announcing for the entire world to see is making a big deal. Lol! So, randomly, each week, I am going to pick a winner for a gift. The gifts will vary in size and price, and I will pick the winner from the comments that I receive during the week.

This week’s winner is…..Deborah!!! Keep commenting, and you might be next week’s winner.

I really like the outfit and the tip about getting pieces from the same line to make sure colors match. I’ve had that non-matching experience with black pieces from different lines and they’ve been WAY OFF! Thanks for sharing your expertise!

I worked at the chico’s outlet for while love their pull on pants.

    1. Their pull-on pants look sleek and smooth instead of bunched.

  28. Tania, this outfit looks great on you. I immediately thought of the Doobie Brothers song, ‘Long cool woman in a black dress.’ Even though you are in navy blue, the concept is the same. This outfit makes it look like your legs go on forever, long and lean. I have got to try one of these monochromatic outfits. I worked for a textile company and dye lots for carpet were as important as ordering shingles in the same run. Heading over to Chicos now. Have a great weekend.

    1. Peggy, you are right, your legs will look a mile long in a monochromatic look. I’ve bought carpet before, and we always made sure to buy from the same dye lot.
