The Best Fair Isle Sweaters For Winter
Before I show you the best Fair Isle sweaters I’ve found for you, I thought I’d remind you of some fashion information I shared last year. If you’re wondering what exactly makes a sweater a “Fair Isle sweater,” according to my research (which is just two minutes on Google), “Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colors. It is named after Fair Isle, one of the Shetland Islands. Fair Isle knitting gained considerable popularity when the Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) wore Fair Isle jumpers in public in 1921.”
Some of these don’t use a lot of colors but don’t worry. They still count!
I love brown and black together. Black and camel brown make a timeless and sophisticated combination because they balance each other perfectly. This pairing creates a blend of cool and warm tones, making it visually interesting yet easy on the eyes.
The Ponte Wide Leg Pants are a nice weight and fit like a glove. They fit really well, and the wide legs help balance the shoulders of the Fair Isle Cardigan.

Gurls, this Embroidered Crewneck Sweater is so pretty! LOVE the purple. The classic Fair Isle embroidery gives it a timeless charm, while the soft fabric blend keeps you cozy without feeling bulky. It’s the perfect length, hitting right at the hip, so you can pair it with your favorite high-rise jeans or even a cute midi skirt and boots for a little extra flair. This sweater comes in all sizes, from Misses to Plus Petite, so everyone can feel fabulous. I could see myself layering this over a collared shirt for a family dinner—it’s giving warm and stylish vibes without trying too hard. What do y’all think?
My friend Megan also styled a Fair Isle sweater but in a light purple color. I loved this color, but they didn’t have it in my size, so Megan decided to wear it instead. This sweater looked fabulous on her, and you can see how it helped to accentuate her curves.
Purple is a thing for 2025. This Diamond Fair Isle Sweater is cozy with a dash of sophistication! The diamond pattern adds a little twist to the traditional Fair Isle look. I think it makes it a bit more fresh and modern. This would look great with jeans or a nice pair of dark pants. This sweater is machine washable, too, so no stress about spills. Who doesn’t love a cute and practical piece?
I am loving this zip up. It’s bright, fresh, and full of seasonal charm. Wear it fully zipped with jeans for a casual day out or open over a turtleneck for a chic, layered look. The slightly cropped fit, hitting just above the hip, pairs beautifully with high-waisted pants or even a flowy midi skirt. I love that touch of wool in the fabric—it’s warm but not too heavy, perfect for those in-between weather days. And can we talk about the convenience of a cardigan you can just zip and go?

Draper James was founded by Reese Witherspoon. It makes sense cause this is very cute and is giving me all the cozy Southern vibes! The ribbed cuffs add a cute, snug touch, so you won’t have to keep adjusting your sleeves while you’re out and about. And the fabric blend? Soft, stretchy, and machine washable—because ain’t nobody got time for fussy laundry, lol! Pair this with a cute scarf and ankle boots, and you’re ready to tackle chilly days in style. Who’s adding this one to their winter wardrobe?
if you’re looking for an easy-to-wear winter staple, this Croft & Barrow Fair Isle Ringer Sweater is calling your name! The design is so classic and versatile—it’ll go with everything. Dress it up or keep it casual. I love that it’s made with recycled polyester—so you can stay stylish and feel good about your choices. This one is perfect for a cozy movie night with the grandkids or a quick coffee date.

Gurls, this vintage-inspired Fair Isle sweater is all kinds of cute with its retro vibes and lightweight knit! The Floral Grey Pink color adds a soft, feminine touch that’ll brighten up even the chilliest winter days. Whether you’re heading to the office, a holiday gathering, or just running errands, this sweater fits the bill. Plus, it comes in a ton of sizes, so everyone can join in on the vintage charm. I think it would look adorable with skinny jeans and ankle boots—or even dressed up with a midi skirt.
This just says cozy winter day with a good book to me. The jacquard knit gives it that classic, handcrafted vibe—like something straight out of a Nordic fairytale! Made from 100% acrylic, it’s super warm and cozy without being heavy, so it’s ideal for layering over a cute turtleneck or even a simple tee. Pair it with jeans and boots for a day out, or throw it over a dress to stay stylishly snug at a holiday gathering. I love the versatility—this cardigan is as practical as it is pretty.

Ooooh, I love these colors! Gurls, this Fair Isle Print Sweater in ZE Blue is all about cozy vibes with a trendy twist! The loose fit and lightweight knit makes it comfy enough for lounging but stylish enough to wear out and about. I love the mix of boho and vintage Fair Isle patterns—it feels modern but still has that classic winter charm. The crew neck and long sleeves give it a relaxed feel, perfect for pairing with leggings and boots for a casual day or layering under a chic coat for a polished look.
This sweater is a dream for those of us who are always on the go—you can just throw it on and instantly look pulled together. Whether you’re meeting friends for coffee or just running errands, this one has you covered. What do y’all think about adding a pop of color with some fun earrings?
Looking for something cozy that goes with everything? This has every color in the rainbow, lol. The fabric is soft and stretchy, so you’ll feel comfy whether you’re grabbing coffee with friends or snuggling up at home. Just a heads-up—this one runs small, so size up for the perfect fit (and who doesn’t love a little extra room in a sweater, lol!).
The geometric print adds a fun, modern twist, making it an easy match with jeans, leggings, or even a cute skirt and boots. Plus, it’s machine washable—because who has time for high-maintenance sweaters? This is not as traditional as most Fair Isle sweaters, but if you don’t tell the Prince of Wales, I won’t!
What do you think about the Fair Isle look? One thing is for sure. It’s been here for years, and I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon.

I’ve loved fair isle sweaters since I was in high school in the late 1970s. I really like the choices you posted today – especially the gray & pink vintage-inspired sweater from Amazon. Very cozy looking!

Interesting history about Fair Isle pattern. I bought my first Fair Isle sweater last month. I found a crop length that’s perfect on me. I have pajamas and socks in Fair Isle too. A lot of cute sweaters you showed.
