While I was on vacation, a casual and relaxed style was my everyday style. I wanted something that was cool since the sun was extremely hot. The temperatures weren’t that bad and most days were in the mid-80s, but the sun was very intense. I did a great job of staying lathered in sunscreen until the last day, and I made a slight mistake that ended up with me having a small sunburn.
It was cloudy and overcast and I know that you can still get sunburned in those conditions. Joe was going to the pool for a little bit, and I went with him but I didn’t want to sit in the sun so I didn’t put any sunscreen on. Bad mistake. While Joe got in the pool I sat in a chair and talked to him for about 15 minutes. The sun wasn’t out, so I forgot that I was even sitting out in the open instead of under an umbrella. I had on my wide-brim hat so my face was shaded, but my arms and chest got a tiny bit burned. I didn’t peel, so it wasn’t a deep burn, but I know better than that and it made me mad that I forgot. I’m warning all of you now so you don’t make the same mistake later this summer.
This Cotton Slub Sleeveless Tunic is great for keeping cool in the summer months. I wear tanks all year round since you can layer them under sweaters, cardigans, jackets, and coats. This tunic is soft and lightweight, so it is perfect for when the sun is beating down on you. The deep scoop neck is flattering and helps your neck to look longer. I’m wearing a size 1, and it fits me great.
This is a beautiful neutral outfit, but I wanted to add some color without taking away from the monochromatic look. This is different than a pop of color which is usually bright in a contrasting color, this adds color but in a complementary way.
This Tissue Print Wool & Cashmere Wrap Scarf is lightweight and isn’t hot. The wrap added just enough warmth for the breezy night air. I liked this print because it reminded me of the ocean waves coming onto the shore. This exact print is sold out, (insert eye-roll) but there are several prints still available, and I’ll show the ones that I liked below. If you have an outdoor event coming up, this might be a great way to look stylish and stay warm.
This Pearl Embellished Straw Bag was great for the beach, but it will be great for the rest of the summer too. This handbag blends casual and dressy together seamlessly, and it looks great with casual outfits as well as dressy ones. It is a great medium size bag, and it has a drawstring closure to keep your items from falling out.
When it comes to wearing summer clothing, linen items are top on my list. There are times when I don’t want to wear shorts or a dress, but pants and jeans can be too hot. That is where a pair of Linen-Blend Pants come into the picture. They keep you covered but don’t add extra heat. This Caslon pair is lightweight with a drawstring waist, and I can see multiple ways for wearing them this year. I’m wearing a size medium in flax, but there are other colors available also.
These natural hemp espadrilles by TOMS were the perfect pair of shoes for this look. They blend in with the pants and a wedge shoe is the most comfortable of heels. They added just enough height to keep my pants from dragging the ground. I’ll link to similar shoes in case your size is already sold out. I’m wearing my usual size, so I think these run true to size.
I know a lot of you are wondering about my cross necklace. This is a vintage cross that I bought at a Vintage Fashion Show that my mother had in Marietta, Georgia. I love vintage jewelry because it is different and unique. I frequently buy vintage jewelry on eBay and Etsy, but make sure you read the fine print and that the seller has lots of reviews. Here are the links to the rest of my jewelry: 18 Kt. Gold Vermeil Cross Necklace // Danielle Mother of Pearl Earrings // David Yurman Cable Loop Bracelet
