A MODERN TWIST ON A JACKET AND A PAIR OF JEANS
I love classic clothing since it is timeless and always looks, well…classy. But, sometimes, wearing classic clothing can age you or make you look older than you are. If you are 18 trying to pass for 21, that is one thing, but most of us would prefer to look modern. So, today, I am looking at a classic jacket and jeans outfit and showing you how a modern twist can help you age backward.
Before I tell you about my outfit, I want to tell you about a sale that is happening right now with Verb Energy bars. I had seen a lot of bloggers mentioning these bars on Instagram, but I had never tried one until my friend Valerie shared one with me when I went to Nashville. She had the Lemon Raspberry flavor, and it was really good.
I forgot about it until just the other day when I got an email from the company alerting me to a sale on their Starter Kit. They are on sale until the end of the month for only $10.00 with code VERBFAMSK! I’ve already got mine coming because these are great for a small snack, a little extra boost of energy, and only 90 calories. I just thought you might be interested in trying them while they are on sale.
Modern Twist
So, you might be wondering what exactly I mean by “modern twist.” It is simple—modern implies that it is in the present and not in the past. A twist means that it is a change or a different way of doing something. So, in fashion, this would take classic styles and add modern trends and details to help them look current and relevant. I want to erase the word “frumpy” from your vocabulary, so keep an open mind.
Classic jacket with a modern twist
I love this quilted shoulder moto jacket, and I think the stone color is muted and gorgeous. A moto, or motorcycle jacket, is a classic style that sometimes comes with the “rebel without a cause” label. That classic moto jacket usually is black, leather, very heavy, stiff, and has lots of zippers.
A modern twist of that classic moto jacket comes with some unique details, colors, weight, and materials. While I love the classic black moto jacket, and I have an older one, as I mentioned above, I am more apt to grab my newer, more modern versions since they aren’t as heavy and stiff.
The modern twist to this moto jacket would be the quilted shoulders (which I am obsessed with), the faux-suede material that feels almost as luxurious as the real thing, and the beautiful muted stone color. Even though this jacket is not as heavy as a classic leather jacket, it is pretty substantial and not exactly lightweight. I am wearing a size 1, and it is perfect for me.
Here is where the jacket hits me from the back. The length is nice and flattering, especially when paired with the princess seams, which helps to create a slimming look.
Most of us wear jeans weekly, if not daily. I am not like Joe, who wants 85 pairs of pants in the same style, cut, color, and retailer. What is it with men??? I love having 5-10 pairs of bootcut jeans, but I want each pair to be a little different. Small details are what I look for when it comes to my jeans. Some details are in the fit, and some are in the style of the jean.
This pair of jeggings have a modern twist that is easy to spot and one that isn’t quite as easy. The four buttons at the hem are a great detail that draws your eyes to your shoes or boots, and I am wild about this detail. I styled a pair of flare jeans that had buttons up the side that you might want to check out if skinny jeans aren’t your cup of tea.
The second modern twist to these jeans is the fact that they are pull-on jeans. You would never know these were pull-on jeans to look at them. Pull-on jeans have sure come a long way since the days of huge elastic waists and puckers in the front and back was the look. I was afraid the jeggings would be too tight when I ordered my usual size 1, but they fit like a charm!
Here is a better look at the four-button hem detail. Isn’t this detail adorable? The block heel suede ankle boots are a pair that I bought last year. I love block heel shoes because they are sturdy to walk in, and you don’t twist an ankle as easily. This style of boot is still very popular this year, especially since the western look is trending. I’ll link to some similar ones below. Just click on the photo you like, and you will be taken straight to the website.
Here is a close-up of my leather and quartz wrap bracelet with a magnetic clasp. I love the neutral color of the quartz, and it is something that I can wear all fall and winter. The clear quartz stone is said to encourage healing, power, and focus, and I know that I need help in almost all of those areas.
Even though this photo was supposed to focus on the jewelry, I want you to take a look at how much the jacket’s material looks like the real thing!
The genuine amazonite and clear crystal quartz add natural beauty and color to the Green and Neutral adjustable tassel necklace. This is the perfect match for the leather and quartz bracelet, and I love the chains mixed in with the leather tassel. This necklace is adjustable, making it versatile to wear with lots of different tops.
The last item that I am wearing is a layering textured sweater tank in the color buttercream. This tank is one of those pieces that no one talks about since it isn’t the star of the outfit, but it is the workhorse of the look. It is one that you will repeatedly wear with lots of different jackets, blazers, and cardigans so that you will get your money’s worth from a piece like this.
The sweater tank is a v-neck, machine washable, and a cotton/nylon blend. There is a matching cardigan also that would look great paired together. I am wearing a size 1 in the tank, and it fits me great, but maybe a little snug. If you are between sizes, I would suggest going with the larger size. I would rather have a little extra room as to feel like my lumps and bumps are showing.
