Marching, Fighting, Or Supplying – The Goal Is The Same
My mom loves working on our family history. The Ancestry tree she has built is quite impressive and goes back many generations. We were able to use the records she found when I wanted to become a member of the DAR.
She helped me connect all the dots and cross all the tees so that I could be a DAR member. However, my ancestor wasn’t a general or a colonel; he wasn’t even a private. Instead, he supplied items for the war effort, and that counted.
Have you ever noticed that when people share who their ancestors were, they are always famous? As far as I know, we’ve never run across a famous person in our history, and I’m betting that is the same with most people.
A month or so ago, I listened to an online sermon about our purpose in life. The pastor mentioned that people all want these grand purposes in life and might completely ignore the one that the Lord gave them. We can’t all be preachers. Most of us will never write devotional books that are published for millions to read. But, our purpose in life can still be impactful if it is what the Lord gave us.
What if your purpose in life is to raise your children in the church? That isn’t a small accomplishment, and it can have a generational impact. Maybe it is to mentor someone who is struggling. What if your purpose is to sing in the choir? And, possibly, your purpose is to go to your work every day and let the light of Christ shine through you for your co-workers to see!
My ancestor could have wanted a splashy title during the war. He might have dreamed of people remembering his name and telling their children about his accomplishments. He probably thought that the job of delivering supplies was not that important.
The truth is that we need a supply person just like we need a general. Without supplies, the war would have quickly ended. The same is true when it comes to the army for Christ. We all have a purpose against the enemy. You might not feel like you are on the front line, but suppliers are needed in order to win the war. Spoiler Alert: the war is already won!!!
Ephesians 2:10 NIV
10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Proverbs 19:21 NIV
21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
Job 42:2 NIV
2 “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
You have a purpose and a part to play in the Lord’s army. It doesn’t matter if you are marching, fighting, or supplying – the goal is still the same!!!
To GOD Goes The Glory!
Have A Blessed Day!
In scripture, we have several people mentioned only once. I used to wonder what that person did or who they were – sometimes to the point of frustration because I couldn’t find out what amazing thing he/she said or did. However, I heard a teacher say that it doesn’t matter what that person said or did in life. God felt they were important enough to include in the Holy Word of God. And, wow, did that help my perception and remind me that every single soul is important to GOD.
Vickie, I did a pot about that once, although I can’t remember the name of it. But, to even be mentioned in the Bible is amazing!
Great Sunday post! I have been thinking of filling out application for DAR. 🇺🇸
I used to participate a tiny bit in a local DAR group, but I don’t do that anymore.
What a wonderful way to start my day; I thank you for your message. Let me align my will with God’s will and purpose for my life.
This is an amazing read.
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Amen and Amen! We should be the light of Christ every day because we never know what when someone will need it!
Thank you, Tania for picking me to enjoy the $50 gift card to Amazon! I am so grateful! Have a blessed Sunday!

Great words Tania!! I read your sisters newest book and loved it 🩷
Yay!!! She is a great writer, and her books are so interesting.
Well said. 🥰
Amen! We have all wondered what our purpose is, what exactly the Lord wants us to do in this life. Just maybe we are doing it, great message!
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful post this morning! As much as we are grateful for the life the Lord has given us, I am sure most people need to do some tweaking to find their personal purpose.
What is DAR? Ususally when writing if you use an acronym you spell it out first, at least that is how I learned. I love your blog.
It is the Daughters of the American Revolution.
