Why Keds Are the Best Casual Sneakers for Women Over 50
Y’all know I love a good pair of shoes. And if they happen to be cute and comfortable? Even better! That’s exactly why I keep coming back to Keds sneakers. They’re the kind of shoe you’ll find yourself reaching for over and over again, especially as the weather warms up and it’s time to break out the sundresses.
Today I’m talking all about why the Keds Champion is still one of my go-to sneakers for spring and summer—and why women over 50 should absolutely have a pair in their closet.
This post is sponsored by Keds, but the opinions expressed are my own.

Why I Reach for Keds Instead of Other Sneakers
I’ve tried a lot of sneakers over the years. Some were too clunky. Some felt like I was wearing orthopedic shoes (not in a good way). And some just didn’t go with anything I owned.
But Keds? They’re different. They’ve got a clean, classic look that doesn’t scream “I’m trying to look young,” and they don’t make my feet look huge either, which is always a plus. The Keds Champion sneaker has that sweet spot between casual and polished. You can throw them on with a pair of shorts or wear them with a sundress, and they’ll look just right.
And let’s not forget, they’re affordable. You don’t have to spend a fortune to get a great pair of sneakers that you’ll actually enjoy wearing.
What’s So Great About the Keds Champion?
Sometimes, the simplest things are the best. The Keds Champion is a classic, no-frills sneaker that’s been around for over 100 years. That tells you something right there. It’s not trendy or flashy—but it works, and it works for just about everyone.
Here’s why I love them:
- They’re lightweight – I’m not a fan of heavy shoes, especially when it’s hot outside. These feel like you’re wearing nothing.
- They’re comfy right out of the box – No breaking in, no blisters, no complaints. Slip them on and go.
- They’ve got a slim profile – Some sneakers just look too bulky, especially with dresses or skirts. Not these. They’re flattering and easy to wear.
- They come in lots of colors – I love the classic white, but there are plenty of other options if you want to mix things up.
- They go with everything – Seriously. Dresses, jeans, shorts, linen pants… these will take you from morning errands to dinner with friends without missing a beat.
There’s a Keds Sneaker for Every Occasion
While the Keds Champion might be the most well-known, the brand has come out with plenty of updated styles over the years that cater to different tastes, needs, and seasons. If you prefer something with a little more support or coverage, you’ve got options.
Here are a few Keds styles worth checking out:
If you like a little extra flair in your footwear, the Keds Jump Kick T-Toe sneaker is a fun upgrade. With a sleek leather body, soft suede details, and a pop of calf hair at the heel, this style blends sporty and stylish in all the right ways. It still has that same Keds comfort we love, but with a more modern, fashion-forward twist.
The Keds Rena Nylon/Suede Sneakers are perfect for those days when you want to be comfy but still look put together. They’ve got a sporty, throwback vibe with their mix of canvas, nylon, and suede, but they don’t feel too trendy or over-the-top. These are super lightweight and easy to walk in.
How I Style My Keds Sneakers
Keds are the kind of shoe you can throw on with almost anything:
- A casual sundress for a weekend outing
- Cropped jeans and a tee for a grocery run
- Linen pants and a light sweater for travel days
- Even leggings and a tunic when you’re keeping things extra relaxed
I also love that they don’t scream “athletic shoe,” but they give you the support and comfort you need to be on your feet all day.
Are Keds Sneakers Worth Buying?
Without a doubt. The Keds Champion and the other shoes I shared are tried-and-true basics that just make life easier. They’re cute, comfy, and easy to style. They don’t make your feet hurt. And they’ll go with almost everything in your closet.
If you’ve never tried them—or if it’s been a while since you’ve had a pair—this is your sign to grab a pair. I keep mine by the door because I know I’ll end up wearing them at least a few times a week, especially during spring and summer.
In Case You Missed It:

☺️ like the jump kick toe Keds.
Found it! Could you please provide the links for the pink top and matching shorts! Thank you!
All the shorts I’m wearing are in this post: https://50isnotold.com/walmart-shorts-for-women-over-50-over-60/
FOUND IT🙂! Love Keds
Keds don’t have enough arch support for me. I like the slim design but need the support of Vionics. Got any suggestions?
Yes, I have arch support inserts that I change into my shoes when I need extra support. Here are the ones I have: https://heelthatpain.com/treatments/high-arch-sole-seats/
Love how the Wisteria vine grew into the tree. Although, not always idea! Kids are so cute and comfy. The pointy toe ones are really different as far as traditional style. All cute!
Thanks Tania! Just ordered the point low keds shoe! Your review came at the perfect time. I used to wear keds all the time and frankly forgot about how much I liked the brand back then. I needed something less chunky than athletic shoes to wear with summer dresses.
Vicki, I was like you. I used to wear Keds all the time, and I’m enjoying discovering them all over again.
: )
I had no idea Keds made so many cute sneakers.
Great blog!! I remember wearing white Keds in the summer months as a kid Thanks for reviewing all of the options!!
I had no idea Keds had so many choices. When I was younger, white Keds were the shoe to have. LOL
That’s what I wore, too! I love all the other choices they now have.
😊I am a fan of Keds sneakers. I have to get a pair of white sneakers.
