50 IS NOT OLD | I AM CRUSHING ON GINGHAM | FASHION OVER 40I know a lot of you saw that movie with Robert Redford called the Horse Whisperer. If you didn’t then you need to check it out, it was a great movie. And, I bet a lot of you have seen the television show called the Dog Whisperer with Caesar Millan. I wish he would come and train my Lucy to not growl and bark when a new person comes into the house. But, I bet you have never heard of the Turtle Whisperer. 50 IS NOT OLD | I AM CRUSHING ON GINGHAM | FASHION OVER 40The other day I pulled into the driveway and I stopped to go and check the mail in the mailbox. As I was getting ready to get back in the car I noticed that Joe was starting to come over the hill (that is how you get to my house from the main road) but instead he did a big U-turn and left again. I just thought that he must have forgotten something and really didn’t think anything about it. About 15 minutes later he came home and I asked him what he had forgotten. He looked at me like I had grown three heads and asked me what I was talking about. I explained what I had seen and he laughed and said, “didn’t you see that turtle back there?” You have to understand something about Joe. He is gruff on the exterior but a big soft marshmallow on the inside. This is probably the 8 millionth turtle that he has rescued and that is barely an exaggeration. 50 IS NOT OLD | I AM CRUSHING ON GINGHAM | FASHION OVER 40Isn’t this the cutest little top? I bought this the other day at Cato Fashions when I was spending a $50.00 gift card that they had sent me. I just wanted to see what all that I could get for that amount so I went to the sales rack and started looking. I bought this dress, the top that I have on today, and two more tops. One of the tops didn’t fit so I am having to take it back. This top is a very thin gauze blouse so I have on a camisole tank top under it. I just love the peasant style neckline along with the lace and crochet details. It looks like fringe at the hem but it is crochet. Unfortunately, it does not go all the way around the top but the more I thought about it I decided that maybe that was a good thing. I bet when you sat down you would rip the crochet and this way you don’t have to worry about that.

50 IS NOT OLD | I AM CRUSHING ON GINGHAM | FASHION OVER 40These Jeanette earrings are a real statement piece. I LOVE them!!! I have noticed this style of earring all over the place so I guess all of the jewelry manufacturers got the memo. Lol! I didn’t wear a necklace because I wanted the focus to be on the earrings but I did add two “bling” bracelets, the Opal and the Ezra. If you would like to place an order just go here and pick a party with my name in it. 50 IS NOT OLD | I AM CRUSHING ON GINGHAM | FASHION OVER 40These bright pink loafers are by Aerosoles and they are very comfortable. I thought that this look could use a pop of color and the shoes do that very nicely. I like the buckle detail but it was the color that sold me on the shoes. I would never have bought such a bold color when I was in my forties and that was a shame. I hate that it took me fifty years to figure out that it was okay if someone noticed me. Lol!

50 IS NOT OLD | I AM CRUSHING ON GINGHAM | FASHION OVER 40The black and white gingham pants are old. They are a pair of pixie pants from Old Navy and I still really like this pair. I have been crushing on the gingham print for about 4 or 5 years and I am still drawn to it. I found a pair of houndstooth pixie pants that you might like and then a BUNCH of gingham items that caught my attention. Lol!

50 IS NOT OLD | I AM CRUSHING ON GINGHAM | FASHION OVER 40There are a couple of sales still going on that you don’t want to miss out on. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is now open to everyone. Nordstrom offers free shipping and free returns so they are great for “trying” things, especially if you don’t have a lot of shopping opportunities like me. The Talbots Red Hanger Sale is still ongoing and they have a lot of really cute items on sale. And, finally, you have my Retirement Event still going on through Sunday night. There are a lot of specials being offered in that. If you have not already joined the event just go here and request to join.

  1. You look fabulous! I love everything … outfit, jewelry, your nails! Gah – gah over gingham, too. 🙂

  2. I wish we had a CATO close by. Sounds like a good place to pop in on a regular basis.
    Cute outfit! You’re awesome lady!!!

My eye is always drawn to gingham, but I never really thought about it until I’ve been reading your love of gingham! Love the shirt also! Cato has some really cute things at reasonable prices! I have always been the same way about not drawing attention to myself, why oh why did it take until my 50’s to not worry so much about it! 🙂

  4. I saw this top at Catos yesterday. I live Catos. They had maxi dresses that a 5ft 4 could wear with flats.

  5. Cute look. And I loved the maxi dress.

I love different colored shoes. When I was young (when dinosaurs roamed the earth:), I had 2-tone pink shoes & pretty spring green shoes & ALWAYS a pair of red ones. Thanks to you, I just bought a pair of floral sandals & a pair of pewter gladiator sandals to take to Texas for my niece’s wedding next week. I tho’t both were too frivolous at my age (68 next Saturday) but I decided to be brave, I try to look nice but I don’t wear much jewelry unless I’m going OUT. (Altho I LOVE jewelry & have a lot.)

    You are an inspiration.

    1. When dinosaurs roamed the earth! ? ? ? I am still laughing at that comment but I am happy to hear that I influenced you to buy something outside your comfort zone. I am sure you will rock that look!

I love that movie The Horse Whisperer! And I enjoy watching The Dog Whisperer even though we don’t have a dog. Cesar Millan would be able to help you with your dog. Brandon McMillan from Lucky Dog (CBS on Saturday morning) is great with dog problems too and he has a book out.
I love this top!! The pants are really nice too.
