How To Wear Ruffles And Lace When You’re Over 50

Frills and ruffles are feminine details that are mostly associated with youth. I remember twirling round and round with layers of ruffles swirling around me, but that was when I was a child. Ruffles still make me smile, but I no longer twirl when I’m wearing them. Now that I’m older, I’ll show you how to wear ruffles and lace when you’re over 50.

Ruffles and Lace When You’re Over 50

Ruffles draw attention. They are a detail that makes a statement, and there is no reason you shouldn’t wear them. Some ladies do not like wearing ruffles, but for those who do, this outfit is going to be one you’ll love.

Flutter sleeves are popular, and they are a form of ruffles. That doesn’t mean that everyone wants to wear them. Trends come and go, and you should only try the ones that complement your body shape and personal style. Ladies with broad shoulders will probably want to steer clear of flutter sleeves since they will make your shoulders look even wider. Ladies with larger hips will love this silhouette since it will help to balance out your proportions.

This gorgeous Aqua Eyelet Flutter Sleeve Tee is romantic and feminine. The color is perfect for summer, and I love how it looks with the black and white crops. I’m wearing my usual size 1, and the top fits me perfectly.

These Square Dot Fringe Hem Crops have pompoms instead of ruffles. The pompoms make a playful statement and the unusual square dot print continues the whimsical vibe.

If you’re needing a clutch that is fun, bright and adds a pop of color, then this Blue Tassel Clutch is a perfect choice. The oversized tassels are adorable, and there is plenty of room in the clutch for your phone and a thin wallet. I like carrying one similar to this one since it will fit in almost anything.

Lately, I’ve been loving everything black with straw accessories. So, when I saw these Leather Block Heel Slides, I knew they needed a place in my closet. They fit great, and the block heels are sturdy. These heels are stylish and can be dressed up or down.

Crochet For A Feminine Look

I’m betting that some of you don’t like to wear ruffles or lace, but you do want to look feminine. You’re in luck because crochet is also a trend this year. You can find crochet pants, vests, and even shoes, but I’m showcasing this poncho instead.

It has been a long time, but I know how to crochet. My Aunt crocheted me a bedspread, and I still have it although I don’t use it. It is tucked away for safekeeping, but I might eventually put it on one of the beds. I also have crocheted blankets that were made for my children when they were born and lots of Afghan blankets.

This Crochet Poncho resembles vintage crocheted doilies. That might be why I was drawn to it; either way, I think it is gorgeous. The poncho is full of holes, so you will need to add a tank or camisole under it. I’m wearing a white tank, but you could wear a contrasting one if you want.

Here is a close-up view of the beautiful crochet material. The poncho is also available in black, and I loved this one so much that I ordered that one too.

In the middle of summer, wearing pants can be challenging. These Rolled Hem Crops are loose and made with a linen blend fabric, which should be lightweight enough to keep you cool. I added these Knotted Thong Sandals in champagne, and these are a pair of sandals I’ll wear a lot this summer. They look great with these crops, and they’ll also look good with shorts, dresses, and jeans.

What fabulous outfits you created for this post! I really like the ruffle sleeve top and may see if it is available in one of my signature colors. The monochromatic out if is one that I see you wearing to so many different events. Oh, whatever happened to the birds nest in Joe’s motorcycle helmet?

    1. The bird never came back, if must have been abandoned. We usually keep the doors down, so it probably built somewhere else.

  3. The acqua top looks good on you. I love crochet anything. I have several crochet cardigans and a top. I don’t get rid of them even if not on trend. They are very handy in the summer. I also love linen or linen blend pants in the summer.

Wow. Such pretty outfits. And totally appropriate for “older girls”. At 69, I would wear both. The black and white pants with the pompom trim and the matching turquoise purses are delightful. I adore ruffles and lace, but if ladies are hesitant, just pair a ruffled top with black, blue or white denim jeans or skirt to balance the “girly”. We are still girls and we still get to do girly!

I love lace and ruffles. They’re so feminine. I have a similar top in bright pink that I love but I like the turquoise one too. Thank you for that verse.

  6. I just love EVERYTHING you post! My fave today are those wide leg, linen pants.
