How To Style Blazers for an Everyday Casual Look

This summer, at the Nordstrom sale, I used a stylist for the first time to pull clothing for me. For the record, I highly recommend doing this! Liz was great, but she said something that I thought was really interesting. When my niece tried on a blazer and was lamenting that she didn’t really go anywhere to wear one, Liz said, “Blazers are the new hoodie!” So, gone are the days of only wearing blazers to work. Today I’m going to show you how to style blazers for an everyday casual look. Get ready to see some hoodies, uh, blazers!

Blazers from The Gap

If I’m talking about casual blazers, I might as well mention a denim one! I actually like this A LOT, but I’d probably pair it with white jeans or a maxi skirt. This would be a great fall jacket and would look awesome with a colorful scarf.

You can’t go wrong with a plaid wool blazer. Pair it with jeans and booties, or like the model, some cool sneakers. This is a great choice for fall and would go with just about anything. I just bought a brown and blazer plaid blazer that is gorgeous, and it was half the price.

Blazers from Amazon

Okay, not sure I’d wear this with short shorts, but that’s mainly because I don’t have legs like the model. lol. BUT, I’d wear this with a denim skirt, or over a cute denim dress all day long. How cute would that be for an outdoor concert?! Love the notched collar, the wool blend fabric, and the price – just under $40 dollars.

Yes, you can wear a basic black blazer with jeans and look fabulous! Add a gold cuff and a cute purse, and you will look like a million dollars. If you’d wear a black jacket or sweater, you can wear a black blazer.

Love this with dark jeans and a good leather belt. When I say that a blazer can be worn as an everyday look, this is what I mean. This jacket comes in a ton of colors, too. Do you have a college football game to go to? Chances are, there’s a blazer in their team colors!

For those of you who like a double-breasted blazer, this tweed one would do nicely. Double-breasted doesn’t have to be formal! Push up the sleeves, throw on a pair of straight-leg jeans and some block heels, and hit the street.

I like this blazer so much that I own it in black, white, blue, green, and red. Yeah…I really love the style and material of this blazer!

Blazers from Talbots

Blazers don’t have to be boring. This plaid version from Talbots is anything but! Tip: When going with a more interesting color or fabric, go traditional in the silhouette!

I understand if you think “work” when you see the words “houndstooth blazer,” but it doesn’t have to be! This is a very casual shirt and jeans, and yet so stylish! This is slightly longer for those of you who prefer more coverage.

What do you think? What’s your go-to going to be this fall, a hoodie or a blazer?

I really like the notched collar blazer. I work fully remote so aside from church, Bible study or Kroger run, I don’t have much need for them… but I love them. Be blessed.

  5. I love blazers and skirts in Fall and Winter I am happy they are in style. Love the post and the Bible verse!

  6. I really like the black blazer. Could it be worn with dark denim jeans too? Or would it be best to stick with a lighter denim?

    1. Judy, you can wear it with dark denim also.

  7. Since I retired and cleaned out the closet of all that stuff…..now I’m thinking of getting a blazer but I think I’ll go with one that has a good silhouette (just me personally, I don’t like the boxy boyfriend style with flare jeans). I have to agree it maybe the new go to jacket and it’ll be nice to be “pulled together” when I step out. There are some great ones out there and some good sales going on too.
