HOW TO MAKE AN ITEM MORE VERSATILE TO GET MORE WEARS
Have you ever been to a meeting or conference, and they start by saying they have some housekeeping things to go over before the meeting begins? It is usually things like turning off your phone, taking photos, or waiting until the meeting is over to clap. Today, I have some housekeeping things that I need to take care of before we start the post. If your name is Janet, you need to look in your email because you won the eye cream that I was giving away. Make sure to check your spam, junk, or promotions folder for the email since many providers think emails from a blog are spam. Now, for the next item…
I saw a couple of comments yesterday that bothered me. The commenters said they felt unappreciated, unnoticed, and unvalued because I didn’t always respond to a comment they had left for me. Nothing is farther from the truth, and I apologize profusely if I have made you feel that way. I don’t respond to every comment, and there are days when I might not even see a comment if it comes in after I’ve checked on them. There are times when life gets in the way, and it is midnight before I get the blog post written. So, I do apologize, and I ask you for forgiveness and grace. Also, if I do not respond to a comment, feel free to email me. I am better at returning emails, but even then, I have let some slip through the cracks. I told you that I needed a personal assistant!!!
Have you heard the saying, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime?” I am betting that most of you have, and I’ve even used this on Joe when I taught him how to fix his own breakfast in the mornings. Lol! Well, today, we are going fishing. So, grab your rod and reel, and let’s go catch some fish.
Today, I will show you how to make an item more versatile to get wears. This is a fairly easy process since you can take one item and switch up the look by changing out a few accessories. To me, accessories are anything that is not the core clothing item. Jewelry, scarves, handbags, and even shoes all fall in this category, at least in my book. Today’s core item is this cozy cable-knit sweater dress. This dress is really soft and cozy, and it is lightweight and not confining. I love the dress’s length, and I think it is the perfect length to wear with knee boots. This dress would also look great with tights, and the addition of tights would help keep your legs warm. I am wearing a medium in this dress, and it is plenty roomy, and no lumps or bumps are showing. The dress also comes in several other colors, including a bright red, which would be FABULOUS for Christmas!!!
This drape collar knit blazer is soooo flattering! I bought a cranberry version of this jacket and loved it so much that I also had to get the black one. I wanted to get the jacket in a navy version also, but unfortunately, they were sold out of my size. I love how the jacket creates a waistline for me >< and flares out at the hips. For someone like me, who is built like a ruler, the illusion of a waistline is fabulous! I am wearing a size medium in the jacket, and it fits me perfectly.
This crossbody leather snakeskin handbag is gorgeous and under $60.00! When you find a leather handbag at 40% off, you snatch it up quickly. Lol! I love that this bag comes with a gold chain that you can use as a crossbody or remove the chain for a clutch option. I think a clutch looks dressier when you are going out to a fancy event, but the crossbody option allows for safety, so I usually tuck the chain inside the bag once I get to where I am going.
I’ve been late to jump on the chunky heel dress shoe train. I am still a classic pump wearing girl, but I like how these pointy toe block heel shoes look. I ordered these shoes in size 9, but I feel like they are a tiny bit big on me, so I need to send them back and try an 8 1/2 instead. I do like how sturdy the chunky heel feels when you are walking in them. And I think these shoes are great for any time that you need to wear a dress.
I am always wanting to show you how to make an item versatile so that it what we are going to do with this dress. This is one idea on how to change things up, but there are tons of things that you can use in your closet if you go an look.
I love wearing gray and camel together, and I think it is a soft, elegant look. Here is one of my favorite looks using these two colors together. Adding this statement leopard print scarf changes the look immensely. The scarf becomes the star of the outfit, and the dress is not noticed as much. I’ve had this scarf for several years, so I am not surprised that it is no longer in the store. But, since leopard print is so huge right now, I easily found you several other scarves that would be just as cute.
My tall suede knee boots are a pair that I bought last year, so they aren’t in stock any longer. I love this color boot, and I will gravitate toward this color all of the time. It is probably the soft neutral color that I like and the fact that it will go with almost anything. Here are a few similar boots for you to consider.
Now, for the jewelry that I chose to wear with the dress shoes. The convertible pearl multi-strand necklace is the star of this outfit, and any outfit you wear this with. It Is gorgeous, and it makes a huge statement! This necklace would be perfect for any Christmas party, and everyone will want to know where you bought it. Because the necklace is such a statement, I kept my earrings neutral. I added the Ryder multi-chain earrings to this look, and I liked the outcome, but I wanted to wear the clip-on pearl studs earrings that I wore in this post, but I couldn’t locate them. Plus, I added a small charm bracelet that was a gift, but here is one that is very similar.
Did you happen to see my cute little photo bomber in some of the photos? It is a good thing that this yapper is so cute!!!

Isn’t he adorable???
Perfect Bible verse for this week!
That is what I thought also. We need to pray for all of our leaders, no matter if they are in your party or not.
Great ideas for making a simple dress look fabulous with few basic changes. Leopard is my favorite color so that look wins hands down for me. Lovely as always. By the way, if you’re looking for an assistant…I’m right here 😂
I could sure use your help. But, you have your hands full with that adorable little girl.
You look great in this. I like the black shoes with it the best.
Thanks, Robin. The black is dressier for sure.
Great post as always! Not to sound critical but I think black boots would have been a better choice than the camel ones with the grey dress.
Not critical sounding at all. I did think about black boots but decided to go toward a softer look instead.
I appreciate posts like this. Multiple ways to wear a dress. I think you are a gifted stylist. I also appreciate your Bible verse, timely. As for people getting upset, they are the one with the problem. They like you and want more from you than you can give. It is obvious that you try hard to be kind. Sometimes people hurt and well not knowing they transfer their hurt to you. Times are rocky. Just saying. patval
I’ve been in the shoes of those leaving a comment and then checking back to see if there was a response. So, I understand how it can be hurtful when there isn’t a response. I will try to do better, but when I do miss some comments, please understand that it is not because I don’t care.
I commented a while back, asking you to post links with the item’s name rather than the word “here” (or “this” can’t remember what it was now!😂) and you did! While you didn’t respond to me i was pleasantly surprised you took my request seriously. I never expect a response from those who get many comments a day!
I did read your comment, and I took your suggestions. Thanks for commenting, and I love it when you gurls help me to make my blog better.
Hi Tania, I really enjoyed today’s blog. I find it helpful when you show us how to wear things different ways. I wish you would do more “shop your closet” posts. I am not interested in constantly buying new things or ordering the same item in 3 colors. lol I am retired now and downsizing. I can only wear so many clothes. I realize that some of your income comes from items people buy through your blog. It’s hard to please everyone lol Your fashion blog is one of three that I follow. Have a great day!
Joyce, I am glad that you like the blog. It is funny about the “shop your closet” posts, most people get ill when they can’t buy the items. So, that is why I try to only post clothing that is online currently. You can easily take any post and make it a shop your closet post. Just look at my pieces and see what you have in your closet that is similar.
Love the dress on you and the red one is super cute for you! I just might have to get that leather crossbody it would last for years! Lol!
I really love the red color and can see wearing it in many ways over the holidays.
I appreciate when you comment on my comments but I sure don’t think badly of you when you don’t ! I don’t know how you get everything done that you do in a day!!! Appreciate all the fun family’s stories and fashions and spiritual thoughts that you share! No judgement here just admiration!!
Well, it sure makes it easy to comment back to everyone when there are only a couple of comments. Lol! Thanks for following and taking the time to comment.
