Let’s face it ladies, we are all aging. I don’t care if you’re twenty and reading this, you are still aging. There are days when I feel like I still look good, and then there are days when I feel like I look like I got ran over by a Mack truck. Lol! So, here are a few tips on how to keep looking your best.
50 Is Not Old | Tips For Looking Your Best

FASHION

You should have known I would talk about fashion first thing. Fashion is what you see when you look in the mirror. It is what other people see when you go to work, the bank, or just running into Wal-Mart. PLEASE tell me you don’t wear your pajama’s to Wal-Mart. Haha  If you “feel” like you look good, then it shows in your face, and in the way you carry yourself. Confidence is a wonderful fashion statement. If you are putting on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, then add some bling with your jewelry. Or, another way to dress up jeans and a t-shirt would be heels, or a pretty scarf, or even a jacket. It is not a lot more trouble to feel “put together.” It usually only means adding one extra item to your outfit.

DIET

I am not talking about that four letter word, the one that means to cut back on your intake of calories. I am talking about the food you put in your mouth. How many of you have ever heard, “You are what you eat?” I don’t know about you, but I am not much into thinking I look like a pig or a cow. Of course, looking like an apple or an orange is not better. Lol! Maybe the saying refers to the vitamins and mineral that we eat. I “know” that eating junk not only makes me gain weight, it makes me feel bad. Sugar is bad for your skin, adds unwanted pounds, and causes all kind of health issues. Drinking your sugar intake is not a good choice either. How about instead, we opt for water to drink, and go ahead and eat that apple. Your skin will thank you for it.

SKIN CARE

While we are on the subject of skincare, let’s talk. How many of you take good care of your skin? Do you take your makeup off nightly? Do you regularly use sunscreen? Do you have a really good moisturizer that you put on twice a day? Well, me neither. I thank the good Lord that I have been blessed with somewhat good skin, because I have never done anything to help preserve it. In the spirit of “confession is good for your soul,” I confess now that I am guilt of not taking off my makeup. I am guilty of lying in the sun and even suntan beds. I have no idea why I don’t look worse than I do.

It’s not that I haven’t tried to get in the habit of washing my face every night. Even in my teen years, I had a best friend who washed her faced constantly. She was fanatical about her cleaning regime, but she had horrible acne. I, on the other hand, hardly ever had a break-out. I think in my mind, I associated her lack of oils on her face for the breakouts. I know, that makes no sense. After I became an adult, I stopped laying in the sun without sunscreen, but then I started laying in a tanning bed. After all, those were supposed to be alright for your skin. I should have known better! I have purchased the entire line of facial routine from BeautiControl and from Mary Kay. The problem was, after I used the products for about three weeks, I would stop. I did not see any changes in my skin.

Fast forward to three months ago. I had been wanting to try Rodan and Fields for some time. I had seen great reviews from some of my friends on FaceBook, and I even saw where Jo-Lynne Shane had signed up to be a consultant. Still, I hesitated. I knew from my past record what would happen. I would buy everything and then just stop using the product. Finally, looking in the mirror one day at the age spots on my face, I decided to give it a try. I can live with age spots on my legs, on my arms, and on my chest, but I HATED them on my face. So I bought the REVERSE regimen. It was not cheap at $179.00, but I thought that I was worth it. Lol!

The regimen is supposed to last for at least two months, you use a very small amount of product. However, mine has lasted right at three months, I did miss a night or two. Here’s the thing, one of my age spots is completely GONE. Two more are really light, and you don’t even notice them, even without my makeup. I couldn’t believe that it worked. I also got to noticing that the furrow between my eyes was not as noticeable, and the lines on each side of my lips was also better. I usually use concealer in that area to lighten the spot, so that it doesn’t show the deep shadows, but I haven’t had to do that lately. I was going to buy another round of the product, but there were a couple other products that I wanted to try. I did the math, and decided to sign up as a consultant. I am not going to try to sell the products on FaceBook, or really any way at all. I just signed up to be able to get the products at cost. Yes, there is a discount. I’m not even trying to talk you gurls into buying anything, I am just excited at MY results and wanted to share them with you.

BUT, if you want to try one of the regimen’s, either RERVERSE, REDEFINE, UNBLEMISH, OR SOOTHE, order from me and I will gift you a 20.00 gift card just for trying. You can look at their entire line here. If you like what you see and would like to sign up yourself as a consultant, you can do that here. AND, I will gift you a $50.00 gift card if you sign up under me. Feel free to email me with any questions you might have.50 Is Not Old | Tips For Looking Your BestThis outfit is what I am talking about when I said taking something simple, and upping your game with accessories. I have taken a simple navy top, a pair of white linen pants, and turned that look into spectacular, just by adding a scarf. In this post, I showed you how to turn a scarf into a vest. I folded the scarf in the very same way, but instead of putting my arms through the opening, I kept the two openings together and stuck my head through. I love the sophisticated drape of the scarf.

Scarf: Polka Dots | Stripes | Sopia Stripe50 Is Not Old | Tips For Looking Your BestThis is the very same outfit, but I chose a necklace instead. This is still a pretty dressy look, but the necklace gives it a more casual vibe. The necklace and bracelet are new. I just got it in the mail yesterday, and I couldn’t wait to wear them. It is Capri three-row convertible necklace  and the capri statement cuff by Chloe & Isabel. Wouldn’t you know my luck; today I opened my email and see that Chloe & Isabel is having a Memorial Day sale through this weekend. Buy two items, and get a third item of equal or lesser value, for FREE! If you have ever wondered about trying out this line of jewelry, now is the time. Be sure to type Tania Stephens (me) in the Find A Merchandiser slot.
50 Is Not Old | Tips For Looking Your BestHere is an up-close pic of the necklace and cuff. I think this set has become my new favorite C&I item. This also gives you a better idea of the top. It is a soft rayon material that has two layers. The bottom layer feels like a t-shirt with the top polka dot layer being a sheer netting. Because it is form fitting (without being too tight) I got several compliments saying it looked like I had lost weight. No, I haven’t. That is what a form fitting top will do for you.

Navy Top: Lace Detail | Peplum style | Cold Shoulder Plus50 Is Not Old | Tips For Looking Your BestThis pair of linen pants was one that I bought last year at Old Navy. I wore these constantly last year. I wore them to work, and I also wore them as a bathing suit coverup when we went to the beach. I liked them so much, I bought a couple more pairs this year. I decided to throw in a little color in the outfit with the yellow espadrilles and purse. The yellow espadrilles are an old pair by Michael Kors, and the yellow purse is one that the girls at work bought me for my birthday two years ago.

  1. What skin product do you recommend — reverse or redefine?
How much do I save by becoming a distributer?

    1. Lyn, everyone’s skin is different. I use Redefine for the most part because I’m working on fine lines and wrinkles. When you are a distributor, you get products at a 25% discount.

  2. Hello! I just signed up with email today. I have just started saving your beautiful outfits on Pinterest. I have been so down and depressed about how I look, and you have just lifted me out of it! I am trying to lose some weight and I just got my hair cut. I love bright colors and big jewelry, but lately I just have stopped trying. Thank you ever so much for your beautiful inspiration! I’m really going to get myself going again with your help, keep on posting these outfits and your blog! This is my first time ever to read one by the way! I am 58 and have an identical twin just as a FYI get to know you deal! Ha! Take care!

    1. Sharon, I am so thrilled that you found my blog and have become an email subscriber. The idea of me being able to help you out of your funk is exciting. You are worthy, so treat yourself like you are!

  3. Hi love your posts even though I live in the uk I look at Pinterest every day at your outfits. I’m a little older than 50 but your style works for me. Thank you for being there. Sandy UK

  4. I like that you mentioned that confidence is a wonderful fashion statement. My daughter is turning 30 and she wants me to get her some Umgee clothing. I’m sure that it will help her feel even more confident.

Hi Tania, I so enjoyed your post! I am a Pinterest newbie and started following you recently. I am breaking into the Affiliate Marketing field and love the fashion sense you share with a smile and a sense of humor.

  6. Love the clothes but where can I buy them and am very tall so .

  7. Thank you Tania!! I just love looking at how much you have done in such a short amount of time. Well, when I get my mind made up to do something, I am all in. Right now it is getting the basics! It helps quite a bit for knowing the brand of tops. Pants seem easier and as for my shoes. We have a Rack Room, DSW and Macy’s. I honestly find some fun and comfortable sandals at Target. DSW is where I got the suede booties this fall. Turning 50, means the middle has left me with a lot of great tops that do not fit. I will have to do something about that. Thank you for responding!!! My goal is this summer to have worked on this project for a few months and have a knock out summer/fall new style.

    Thank you!!!

  8. Tania, this outfit looks gorgeous on you. I noticed that you mentioned the style of the pants, shoes and purse and course all of the Plunder Jewerly but I do not see anything about the top (except for the links to other tops). What would you call this type of shirt? I love it! Will you please let me know the name on the back and possibly the style, I would greatly appreciate that. I will say that for the “fashion challenged” such as myself. I am learning. I have decorating my house and landscaping my yard down to a science, but that has taken years of evolving. Well, let’s just say wearing uniforms in Catholic school for 12 years then scrubs as a nurse for over 30 does not make for a fashionista. I have nice clothes, they are basic and safe. However, in seeing you pull together looks from items that are (most likely in my closet) I want to say Thank You!. However, I am just now learning how to “pull everything together”. The purses, the jewelry, the scarves and accessories. I am great at shoes (so there is one bonus).I saw a post you did with a basic black t shirt and white linen pants. Well, I looked at all of my scarves and wondered why I never thought of “that look”, well I did not have a nice floral scarf to coordinate with a basic t-shirt. Ebay is my honest to goodness go to for anything. Well, I ordered a gorgeous new with tags Calvin Klein floral scarf and I cannot wait to get it!!!! Doing what you do It is hard for me. My safety area in life is decorating, gardening, organizing, nursing and I have been “hiding” in blah clothes for the past 10 years. So, I am doing something about it!!, I want to do better and be better and LEARN how to just pull an outfit together. As they say, practice makes perfect. Well I am at level 101. So, I am catching your blog 18 months after you started writing it and when I see something that you mentioned you “just bought”, it is long gone. So, I am trying to take your post day by day and have the advantage of being able to purchase something you just mentioned (since chances are it is not discontinued). Again, I love this top on you. It is truly gorgeous and a classic. I would guess Talbots or Macy’s, OH, did I tell you I do not like to shop for clothes. I never have. The stress of trying on clothes in a dressing room and honestly being disappointed is exhausting. I would rather take my measurements, look on line and take the stress of going rack to rack and walk out unhappy and frustrated. I have 3-5 high end brands that are true to my fit and I have been sticking with those stores because I know what to expect. I am excited about finding your blog. I have already looked over QVC and Umgee. Hey, I just ordered a Cable and Gauge top that is a (medium shade of light blue). I have a few Cable and Gauge tops, so I knew that a large would fit just fine. You may hear more from me as I am still learning. So, if you would let me know the style and designer of that top, I would greatly appreciate it!!

    1. Christina, you are a smart lady. You have identified the area that you are “lacking” in and are trying to do something about it. There are so many people who just go through life saying, “that is just the way that I am.” NOT! We can change if we want. The top that you are talking about was from QVC. I can’t remember the name of the brand right now though. It sounds like you might some good basics and that you now need to start looking for some statement or dramatic pieces to spice things up a little. It is funny that you mention shoes, that is my failing. I get dressed and then get ready to head out the door and my shoes look like crap/ UGH! Looks like I need to do something about that.

  10. 2-17 This is your BEST outfit!

  11. I just started reading your blog. I can tell right away I am going to love it!

  12. Margaret Martin says:

I don’t know exactly when I started following you, but I really love your style. I have wanted to try R + F but the cost always held me back. My age spots on my face are bothering me so much lately. Can you tell me more about the Reverse regimen? Should I email you?

    1. I bought the Reverse regimen and it comes in a 4 part series. Step 1 is a exfoliating scrub, Step 2 is a toner, Step 3 is retinol and vitamin c, and then step 4 is a spf 50 sunscreen. They start you on a limited basis for week 1, increase it in week 2, and week 3, to get you to using the product on week 4 every morning and every night. I honestly didn’t think it would work, but it did. I became a distributor just so I can get my product at cost. If you have any other questions, just email me.

  13. Deb Mussmann says:

I look forward to your blog first thing every morning. It makes my day. I enjoy see the clothes. It makes me aware of what I should be wearing. I also love your fun personality.

  14. I’m new to your blog, but I love it, I look forward to you fashion, and your motivational suggestion.

  15. Hi Tania, I’m stopping by as another “Between the LInes” blogger! I love your outfits! I think the scarf is my favorite. Teresa

  16. I love, love, love this outfit. Navy and white such a classic look. The scarf is beautiful. Have a great weekend and a safe weekend Tania.

  17. Thank you for your Blog. I look forward to your tips every day. I also like the fact that you give us info on where to purchase. You look great and you remind me to up my game.

  18. This is one of the prettiest outfits you have worn. Love it! And…you do look thin!!

  19. I absolutely love this outfit! That scarf just makes it. As I scrolled, I was surprised – in a good way – by the pops of color with your purse and shoes. I always enjoy your outfits, but this will be a favorite of mine.

  20. I love this outfit, especially with the scarf! Such a great accessory. When I was younger I rarely missed a night removing my makeup but now I have to admit I am not nearly as good at it. My daughter was horrified that I didn’t remove my makeup regularly because I had drilled it into her that she MUST do that every night!! LOL I need to be better at it. I have used the same skin care line since 1981 and I love it! I am 65 and really enjoy your blog 🙂

  21. Pamela Barnes says:

I so enjoy your style! I love your daily posts. Keep them coming!!

  22. Gorgeous outfits in navy! Thanks for disclosing your size too, you have such a great way of making me feel good about being over 50! You’re right, age is an attitude, and I’m pledging to keep mine young!

  23. Love the scarf! Pulls it all together! I am like you and sometimes fall into bed without washing my face, but my daughter is a RF rep and got me started on their products! Been using for about 6 months and can really tell the difference! People think I’m 10 years younger than my 67 years! Love starting my day with your blog!

  24. Tania, I’m interested in ordering some Rodan and Fields. Can I email you directly?? BTW, I really liked your post and such pretty colors!

  25. Love all the outfits!!! love your style!!!

  26. Another Rodan & Fields convert! WOOT! 🙂 Love these colors together too. You look lovely.

  27. Love this outfit on you!! You gave such good advice today. At 52, I’m also trying to be much more conscientious about diet, exercise, and skincare. It’s a shame that when we are younger we don’t think any issues will ever pop up but they do….sneaky little skin spots that have to be removed remind you to use that sunscreen. Off to your Facebook page now. 🙂

  28. Lori Johnson says:

The first thing I LOVE about your blog is the name! I turned 50 in January & hey…..50 IS NOT OLD!!!!! IT’S JUST A NUMBER ? You are beautiful & I LOVE reading your blog

  29. Hi Tania,

I love this look. Very sleek and stylish. May I ask your sizes? I hesitate because we ladies don’t ask age, weight or sizes, so please excuse me if this is rude. Our Ross here never has anything, but I continually hear others rave about their stores.

    Have a great weekend,
    Lisa

    1. Don’t worry Lisa, I tell my size all the time. I wear a size 10 in pants and will usually pick a large in a top. I am 5’6″ tall, and I will weigh between 150-160 at any given time. I how this helps?

  30. Love your blog. What color is your nail polish?

  31. Love the navy and white and the pop of color. Great outfit for anyone. I also would like to add that every woman should dress from the inside out. That means, go ahead and wear a pretty pair of panties and matching bra, while no one sees that, it will make you feel so pretty and that will be seen on the outside.

    1. I agree. I had a friend who once worked at Victoria’s Secret who had red underwear so that’s how I got started buying colorful sets.

  32. Navy, white and yellow. So awesome. So Tania! Beautiful. I will be stealing.

  33. I love the navy top! I’m assuming it’s not available since you listed similar items. Really enjoy your blog!

    1. I couldn’t find it online. I purchased mine at Ross. If you have one of those, you might try to see if they still have one.

  34. Karen Wood says:

Love the outfit. Love your posts everyday. They are the first thing I look at in the morning and I love that you are from Grundy as my husband’s family is from that area. Just one of my favorite things about your posts.

    1. Why, yes I am! Thanks for the reminder! Haha I need to start making a daily list of ladies to join. That way I won’t forget.

  35. Love today’s post. Such an interesting read! I appreciate your honesty regarding skin products. I’ll definitely check out Rodan and Fields products. I agree with above post, good grooming is extremely important, especially in our age group. Scarves are amazing, aren’t they? And they are so inexpensive ?

  36. This is a great post. What you haven’t mentioned is good grooming. It’s so obvious, but often I see women, whose hair needs a wash or a comb, nails are bitten and chewed, no makeup, dirty shoes, unironed clothing etc. these things also make a big difference and cost little

    1. You are so right Lynn. I take for granted that everyone has good grooming skills. I guess I just figured that if they cared enough to look at my blog, then they cared enough to take care of themselves. You should never assume. Thanks for reminding me of that.

  37. Sorry Always looks…crazy auto correct

  38. Great post about eating healthy, feeling healthy and looking healthy. I too am at the point where I want to try R&F, but it does seem expensive. Their product Proactive worked great for my teens. I live at the beach in VA. It was 90 degrees here today….how long do you wear a 3/4 length sleeve or light sweater into the summer? Thanks I read you & your daughter daily ?

    1. If you have any questions about R&F, just let me know. If you want to try a more inexpensive product to try them out, I suggest the eye cream or the lip serum. If you like the results from those, then you might want to try a whole regime. I can wear 3/4 sleeves and sweaters because I freeze. Plus, we were still having a cool spell when I wore this on Monday. Thanks for following!?

  39. Love the Outfit , Your hair always oils amazing….look forward to every post??
