HOW TO COMBAT NEGATIVITY
I am naturally a glass-half-full kind of gal. My husband tells me that I live in a tra-la-la-la-la world, and I am fine with that. I see the good in people and hardly ever see the bad. I assume that everyone is going to do the right thing, and will treat everyone fairly. Some of you will say this is naive, and I actually agree with you. But, I prefer to be occasionally disappointed, instead of looking at the negatives all the time.
With all that being said, how do you combat negativity when it comes your way? Do you know someone in your life who is a “Debbie Downer?” (Sorry if your name is Debbie, no harm intended) Are YOU that person?
I never intended for this blog to talk about issues or even be an inspirational type of service. It is supposed to be a lookbook with links to the clothing items. However, I find myself getting something on my mind, and this is a perfect outlet for me. Sorry if you are caught in the crossfire.
I had a comment on the blog a while back, that was harsh. And this one commenter on Pinterest left a comment that said I looked 60. If that wasn’t enough, they went back and said, “no 70.” One blogger I know almost quit blogging because of the mean comments that people were leaving. Thankfully she stuck it out, and is doing great now.
I know that my outfits are not all winners, and I know that I might should have worn a different pair of shoes or carried a different purse. I have never taken a fashion course and I am not an expert in anything fashion related. I simply get dressed in the morning and take a picture before I head out the door.
I hope you enjoy my outfits and can tolerate my ramblings. I have grown to love the blog, and all you gurls who participate. I feel like I now know some of you ?Have you caught on to me being sneaky? I throw in an outfit that most of you will not like, because of the extremely distressed jeans, while doing a post on negativity. Hahaha Now you will feel bad it you don’t say something nice.
This is my laid back, take it easy, go shopping on a rainy Saturday kind of look. I bought this silky t-shirt a couple of years ago. I don’t own a lot of t-shirts, well not many that you would wear out in public. I have a lot that are my sleeping shirts and cleaning (who am I kidding, I don’t clean) shirts.
Graphic T-Shirt: Similar | Similar | PlusThis distressed jeans are on the extreme side. I only wear these on Saturdays when I am running around town. They are soft and comfortable, but I know how most people feel about these jeans. The last time I wore these jeans, I styled them with my monogrammed sneakers. This time, I have on a pair of Chanel espadrilles that were a hand-me-down gift.
Distressed jeans: Similar | Levi’s | PlusSince I was feeling a little sassy, I put on my leather cuff bracelet that says, G.R.I.T.S. That stand for Girls Raised In The South. How cute is that for this Tennessee gurl that is now living in a Virginia world?
Bracelet: SimilarMy gray satchel is by Aimee Kestenberg. I bought mine for next to nothing because it’s shoulder strap had a malfunction. I bought it thinking if it couldn’t be fixed, then I would just carry it by the short handles, and forget the shoulder straps. I took it back to work and gave it to Gerald (he can fix anything). Five minutes later he was back, purse fixed good as new. Sometimes it pays to work in a lumber company.?
In case you were wondering about the harsh comment. I approved it, and then I smiled sweetly to myself and typed, “Thank you very much for your encouraging words.” So, how do you combat negativity? With kindness, and of course don’t forget to say, “Bless Your Heart.”

I think you are a beautiful lady and by your comments that means beautiful inside and out. Love all your clothes and different hairstyles. I get on Pinterest and when I see your face I immediately click on it to see your styles. I’m 71 and love your cuteness and attitude. Keep up the good work! Bonnie Boone
I know this is an old post, but you look so cute and comfy. I love these jeans on you and who gives a rip (pun intended) what sour people think and spit out of their mouths? The sad thing is, I do ;-( Harsh words tend to stick to me, but I think with age, I’m getting better about just being me! You Go Gurl…I’m a southern Texan gurl that lives in an Oklahoma world 🙂
While visiting my daughter at college, I noticed I didn’t quite look like the other moms. I arrived wearing ripped jeans, and t shirt. I instantly regretted my choice in outfits and hoped I didn’t embarrass my daughter. After talking to my husband and reading your blog, I’m feeling much secure. My daughter has always told me she loves my sense of fashion. I love your sense of style, texture and colors you select. Keep blogging and I’ll keep reading.
Hi, I’m new to your blog so I’m going back and reading thru a few old ones and saw this. It is unfortunate people are mean. I like one of the above comments about “if you don’t have anything nice to say…” I completely agree and my mother told me the same and I share that with my children. Your outfits are adorable. So keep blogging and enjoy it!! I am!! Thanks!!
Hi there I live in Canada and I have been following you for about a month now. I love your blog. I love seeing what you are wearing as I just turned 50 last summer and recently lost 80 pounds. You have been showing me how to put outfits together I would have never thought too. We do not have all the same stores here however I will be checking out a few of them when I go to the states again. Keep doing what your doing and do not worry about the negative people who are obviously unhappy. Your are beautiful and do not look 50!!! Keep up the fabulous blog!!!!
I enjoy your posts so much and love to see your colorful, cute outfits. It’s hard to understand why anyone would be mean and negative towards you. Keep up the good work!
I’m brand new to your blog, just found it today. I am 53 years old, wife, mother, and grandmother; I love what you have on! I love the distressed jeans and tee! I’m a stay it home mom (still) with a 2nd grade son and 2nd grade granddaughter. I’m always looking for a fun, current and comfy outfit. Thanks for your blog…I’m now a follower!!
Thanks Lora! I am so glad you are a follower!!!
I love your blog! I found you while looking for fashion for women over 40. I’m 51 and although I love a lot of the fashion trends today for younger women, I’m looking for fashion ideas for women that in their 40’s and 50’s. I’m a SAHM with young children. I’ve felt in a rut for years and your blog has inspired me. As we age our bodies change and instead of hiding in big baggy cloths, I want to learn how to accentuate the positives. Your fashion choices are so inspiring. I love your choices especially these jeans. You look so hip and still very classy! Thank you for being transparent and sharing your stories!
i love your blog – I found it because of the fashion but I read it everyday (or other) because of your words and outlook on life. I love how you have fun and are so real. Keep it up – we all need positive people.
