HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR COFFEE

How Do You Like Your CoffeeHow do you like your cup of coffee? I know everyone has a different answer to that question. And if you go to Starbucks, the different answers would probably floor most of us. I drink mine with french vanilla creamer, I usually refer to this as “children’s coffee.” I take a little coffee with my cream and sugar. Hahaha

Ever since I watched the movie, “War Room” I have been thinking about this subject. How you can relate coffee to your christian faith. How you live your life, how your prayer life is, and how you are as a christian.

HOT:

To me this would be the most desired cup of coffee, if we are relating it to our faith. I want my faith scalding hot, I want my prayer life steaming, I want to trust in the Lord with all my heart and soul. But is wanting good enough? Would I actually rate my life and actions as hot? Looking honestly into my soul, I am not near as hot as I would like to be. There is so much room for improvement.

LUKEWARM:

This is how the coffee was served in the movie to make a point. No one likes their coffee lukewarm. No one likes their faith lukewarm either. When I think of a lukewarm Christian, I think of the person who goes to church occasionally. They almost always attend Church for Easter and Christmas. When asked if they are a Christian, the answer might even be yes. Does this sound like you, or someone you know? Does this sound like someone the Lord knows?

COLD:

Cold coffee has actually became a “thing.” It is cool and refreshing for those who really enjoy the taste of coffee. But, as far as a Christian goes, this is not good. This person does not believe in the Lord. They make fun of Christians, and think they are dumb. They say, “how can anyone believe in a virgin birth, that Jesus rose from the dead, and how do you believe in an invisible being?” They have no faith, they have no trust, they have NO hope. They ARE lost!

These are easy to see and easily relatable. We are all one of these or maybe a mixture of these. But there is so much more to faith.

Weak:

Some people like their coffee on the weak side. They want more water than they do coffee. It appears like coffee, but it has no staying power. It is fake, it looks like coffee, but in reality it is nothing like it at all. Do you appear to be a christian? Are you just playing, or are you robust and strong? If you are feeling weak in your Christian life, then it is time to dig in. It is time to open the Bible and renew your passion.

Bitter:

I hate when a pot of coffee has set on the burner all day. You grab a quick cup, but it tastes bitter. There is no amount of cream and sugar that can fix that taste. That is how we are as Christians when we become bitter. There is no sugar coating that can fix us. There are a lot of bitter Christians, and I am sure you know some. Bad things happen, not everyone is going to be rich, beautiful, or successful. Resentment to the Lord for letting others flourish, while you do not, can cause bitterness. Look into your heart and cast out any bitterness or jealousy you might be harboring. Turn to the Lord, he is waiting for you.

Stale:

I am not a huge coffee “aficionado,” but Joe hates it when his coffee is stale. I can’t tell the difference, but he can. The same goes for Christians, I can’t tell the difference, but the Lord can. Have you gotten lax about attending church? Have you forgotten to say your prayers lately? Have you quit doing your Bible studies? Have you let the world and all the craziness come between you and the Lord? Stale is when you just go bland. Think of bread that has been left out on the counter. I throw it away, don’t you?

Many of you have commented that you read my blog with a cup of coffee in the mornings. Maybe this post will make us look at our Christian lives in a different way. I am now going to go over to the microwave, and reheat my coffee. The Bible is the “microwave” for our soul, for when it could use a little reheating. I am thankful that the Lord provided us this wonderful avenue to renew and replenish.

Have a blessed day.

  1. Tania – I am a coffee “snob” and I love to start my morning with a great cup of coffee and a Good morning God – Thank you! Sometimes my conversations are short and sometimes they last all day. I usually start my morning with “Good morning God” and end my day with “Amen”! To me prayer is a conversation with God. I think I have had all of the temperatures you mentioned except “cold”, even tho I love a cold brewed coffee. I’ve been chilly in my relationship with God, but never not believing in Him or His grace and power. Those were the times I moved away from God, but He was still there. Again – thanks for this wonderful reminder.

  2. Tania, I never looked at my faith this way but it is true. I love hot coffee but my faith is stale. I don’t go to church anymore and I don’t pray everyday. I have lost a lot of faith in myself also. I am not even sure how to get it back. Most of the time I feel so numb inside that I don’t eye changing unless I change and I don’t know how. Maybe I need to start praying and see where it takes me. I need all the help I can get.

    1. It sounds to me like you just made the first step. Acknowledging that you feel stale in your faith is hard, and saying it out loud is incredibly hard. I feel like you are looking to change, or you wouldn’t have commented. I am saying a prayer for you, I have been there, and I know how it feels. I am still struggling, and I probably will for the rest of my life. I am so thankful that the Lord is there for us. He will NEVER forsake us. Pray for guidance, pray for forgiveness, and just pray. At first when I read your post, I was sad. Now, as I view your post in a different light. I see this as a great opportunity. Grab hold with both hands, praise the Lord that He has opened your eyes. Glory be to the Lord!!!
