Share the Good: How a Kind Word Can Change Someone’s Day

Do you have “that one friend” who always makes you feel good? Whenever your day isn’t going well, you can call on that friend to lift your spirits. For me, that friend is my sister. I always know that after talking to her, my day will look a whole lot brighter. Here’s why…

The Pull of Negativity

There’s so much negativity in the world, especially on social media, that it’s easy to tumble down a dark rabbit hole if we aren’t careful. Before long, we start thinking the world is a horrible place filled with nothing but mean and corrupt people.

But here’s the truth: it isn’t that everyone is bad, it’s that we tend to focus on the negative instead of the positive. Yes, there are terrible things happening, but there are also countless good things we rarely hear about.

Why? Because negativity sells. Bad news gets more clicks, more views, and more money for those who share it. The uplifting stories exist, but they don’t get the same attention.

Gossip Rarely Spreads the Good

Have you noticed that gossip is almost never positive? People don’t whisper about a husband who cooked dinner for his tired wife, or about a mom who quietly sacrifices for her family. Instead, gossip is usually about someone’s failures or shortcomings.

And isn’t it true that one cruel comment can drown out a hundred compliments? A hundred people can tell you you’re beautiful, but if one person says you’re ugly, that’s the one that replays in your mind.

The Bible reminds us to do the opposite:

1 Peter 3:9 (NIV)
Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

Choosing to Speak Life

My sister is a living example of this. She spreads good wherever she goes, reminding others of their worth. I remember a time when we were checking out at Target, she told the cashier, “You are beautiful.”

Three simple words. They may not have seemed like much, but for that young girl, they could have meant the world. You never know how a kind word can turn someone’s whole day around.

We get so caught up in our own busyness that we forget to really “see” others. When someone is moving slowly at the checkout, frustration often comes quicker than compassion. But maybe that person has had a long, grueling day, and maybe your kind word is the exact blessing they need.

The Bible gives us clear direction:

Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Today’s Challenge: Share the Good

So today, I challenge you: be the blessing. Share the good. Speak life into someone, encourage them, and make their day brighter. You may never know the full impact of your words, but God does.

To God Goes The Glory!

Have A Blessed Day!

Let’s End With a Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the people in our lives who encourage us and remind us of Your goodness. Help us to be that kind of person for others. Guard our lips from negativity, and fill our hearts with kindness so that our words will build up and bless. Give us eyes to see the ones who need encouragement today, and courage to speak life into them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. I try my best to let people know how much I love them or how beautiful they are. Yesterday, I was in a funk and couldn’t get out of it, but after a good night’s sleep and reading your message. I am ready to begin a new day with positiveness. Thank you!!

I haven’t read your posts in awhile and just sat here Monday morning and read it. That was very good especially in our world right now. During the offertory at our holy mass the priest is preparing the wine and bread to the true presence of Jesus Christ. This is one prayer that is said:
O Lord, set a guard before my mouth, a barrier to fence in my lips. Do not turn my heart towards thoughts of evil, to make excuses for sins. May the Lord enkindle in us the fire of His love and the flame of everlasting charity. Amen.
Thank you, God bless you 💖

  33. This post really touched me Tania. I have a twin sister who I have relied upon to get me through some tough times but she now has dementia and we cannot have a conversation. I miss her dearly. I am fortunate to have good friends, some since elementary school, but there is nothing like a sister. I have no doubts that you are as great a sister to her as she is to you.

  65. Thank you! Going into a day with apprehension, knowing things will be said, most likely someone will try to trigger negative feelings. This article gives me peace and hopefully I an give others peaceful thoughts, and get around the negative vibes. Have a blessed day.
