Yay! My favorite time of the week is here!!! It is Wednesday, so that means that the week is half over, and the weekend will soon be here. AND, it also means that it is time for my Hit or Miss post. I am showing an outfit each Wednesday and asking for your input. Is the outfit a HIT, or is it a MISS? Plus, would you wear the outfit or parts of the outfit?

With all outfits, there will be items that you love and parts that are only okay. Maybe the proportions are off, the colors do not go well with your skin tone, or the style is too trendy or matronly. Today, I’m challenging you by wearing an orange wrap maxi dress and a colorful ruana. It will be fun to see who loves this look, who would wear it, and who says they can’t wear orange, or that the dress would be too figure-hugging.

This color is high on my radar this year. It seems like I’m grabbing it more and more every time I order something. I especially love the style of this maxi dress since the wrap help to camouflage the stomach area, and that is where I hold most of my weight. Plus, the way the dress drapes and ties to one side helps to create curves which I desperately need since I’m built like a ruler. The bad news is, this orange color is completely sold out in every size, but a light blue and gray version is available. I’m ordered the gray version too since I love this one so much and since it is under $40! I’m wearing a size large.

I love the dress worn by itself, but this Aqua Print Ruana from Chicos makes the dress!!! The Ruana makes a statement, and I’ll be styling it again for you tomorrow to show you another look. It is versatile, and I plan on using it as a bathing suit coverup also. Plus, it covers your arms and creates curves by making your eyes guess how wide your body is. I am always looking for ways to create curves! I’m wearing the S/M Ruana.

Here is a look at the Ruana from the back so that you can gauge the length. It will even be perfect for wearing with shorts since your shorts will still show and not make you look like your naked under the Ruana. Lol!

I once saw a vintage coral bib necklace that I didn’t purchase, and it has haunted me ever since. This Faux-Coral Bib Necklace isn’t the same, but it eased the pain of me not buying the vintage necklace. I love all of the different colored beads and the added charms with the beach theme. This necklace is perfect for a beach vacation, or anytime that you want to add color to your outfit. I’m also wearing the matching Chandelier Earrings, and I’ll link to some other items that will match the necklace below.

It was great to see the sun shining, so I added the Ray-Ban Sunglasses that I bought last year. I’m wearing the Dark Rubber Tortoise/Brown Gradient version, but there are a lot of variations you can pick. These sunglasses have a UV Protection Coating coating, and they are a great medium size, 54 millimeters by 39 millimeters.

Finally, I’m wearing a jute-wrapped wedge heel platform sandal in tan. These wedge sandals are great for wearing with anything all spring and summer, but I’ll try to find some other choices for those who don’t want to wear a high heel. These run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 9.

  1. Phyllis Larr says:

I think it is a great look. I would definitely wear it. You mentioned the Ruana is from Chico’s yet I did not read where the dress is from. I would check out the other colors since the orange is sold out

  2. I definitely think the entire outfit is a big hit. You look lovely, and I would like to wear this to go anywhere in Florida! Or Virginia. Or NC. Or anywhere else it was even faintly warm. Lovely dress, but the ruana and necklace really make it perfect.

  3. I love the whole look. Problem for me is that I have nowhere to wear it… and also I’m 5’2” so I would look like I was playing dress up. But it’s a very pretty outfit.

  4. Patti McDonald says:

So pretty!!! I like the ruana but it’s something I would think I would use and then never do because it’s soooo different than what I wear.

  5. Terri Holzhauer says:

I LOVE LOVE everything about this! I would live in this all summer!

  6. Julie Olsen says:

I love the dress- the color, style, everything! The ruana looks great on you but it’s not something that I would wear.

  7. I love this outfit and would absolutely wear it. It is a very fun look and definitely gives me a Saturday date night with the hubs vibe. You look beautiful. 💓

  8. Looks great on you. I’m 5’3” so it’s rare I can buy a maxi dress unless it’s a petite and doesn’t make me look stumpy. Being petite rules out the ruana unless a tie it at the waist.

  9. I love everything about the outfit. You look terrific in it. I think the dress would be too clingy for me. I wish I could wear it and look as nice as you do.

  10. Love the entire outfit! Hit with me for sure!

  11. Definitely a hit! I love it all. Orange/coral/salmon/peach are my favorite spring/summer colors to wear. (I avoid pink – hate it!)
all my weight is in my waist/stomach area so I don’t feel attractive in dresses or skirts, but I sure love this outfit!

  12. I love these colors and I would wear them. Since I am shorter, I wouldn’t wear the dress as it would be too long on me. The shoes are so cute, and I would definitely wear them. You look amazing in this outfit, and I can tell you have lost so much weight. I love the hit or miss posts.

  13. You look beautiful. I love your style. I am a plus size so I look at what styles would look good on me. I enjoy your suggestions. The colors you choose give me ideas what to choose for each season. Thank you for doing this. May I ask what color and brand is your lipstick.
Thank you for what you do!

  14. You look stunning! I love the way you complete an outfit w/ so much style. While this dress is personally too clingy for me, I still learned useful tips with color & accessories.

  15. sharon neff says:

My favorite colors! I don’t do sleeveless, so I would always wear the ruana. But I would also wear it with other things in my wardrobe. And I could wear the dress with another wrap of some kind.

  16. That dress looks fabulous on you! You should keep it!

  17. I love the look of a ruana but since I’m on the smaller size, they tend to swallow me up. I’d love one but haven’t figured out how to wear on my frame. For that reason, I’ve yet to purchase one. I’m always tempted though when I see how cute they are on other people. I like that you’re not afraid of color. This is a very cute cheerful outfit!

  18. Love it! I too carry most of my weight in my belly so really love this style and was able to find it in the orange!

  19. This is a fun and sexy outfit. I am very small, 5′ 1/2″ and 107 lbs. I think if this dress was shortened, I would look elongated and I am always wanting that. I would buy it.

  20. Gorgeous! Perfect for so many spring/summer events! The coral color is beautiful on you. The ruana would look great with all white and your coral jewelry.

  21. Gayle M Davis says:

100 percent a hit!! Love it.

  22. Definitely a hit. I love wearing orange in the summer time.

  23. Everything about this outfit is a hit and it looks absolutely fabulous on you! Wouldn’t look good on me but I’m glad you found such an amazing look!

  24. Nancy Norcross says:

I love everything about this outfit💕

  25. This outfit is a hit for you! You look great in these colors. I cannot wear orange, so this would be a miss for me, unfortunately. The ruana is beautiful but typically I’m too short for ruanas depending on how they are styled and the size of the print. You have definitely inspired me to shop more often at Chicos! They have so many pretty things this spring.

  26. It’s a hit, but the dress in the tangerine color is gone in my size. Looks way more expensive than it is. Love everything about this outfit!

  27. Janice Jenkins says:

This is a miss for me! Looks great on you. The color is good, but the style and material of the dress would not work for me. Maybe reverse the color, making the dress floral and the Ruana solid.

  28. It’s a hit! Tania, you look amazing in that outfit and ready to take a tropical vacation! I would wear this if I were taking a tropical vacation, but otherwise wouldn’t have an occasion for it. Ruanas are pretty, but I feel they look like a tent on me. (No need to hide my curves! lol) But like I said, you look FABULOUS!!!

  29. The outfit looks good on you but not for me. I had a Ruana and gave it away. It just wasn’t for me. I do like the ray bans and sandals.

  30. The dress is super flattering on you, and the color is as well!! Good choice!

  31. Allison Keiser says:

I love the dress! But sadly it’s sold out in that color.

  32. You look fabulous, Tania! Definitely a hit – except that I am “one of those” who can’t wear orange. It makes me look sickly. But I love the dress and the ruana both. That ruana is shorter and more clean-lined than some I have seen, and I really like it.
Also, I love seeing how you accessorize with shoes and jewelry – that helps complete the outfit and I always need help with that.

  33. Gorgeous! You’re looking fabulous & ready for a trip to the islands! 😎😊🌺🐚🌴

  34. This outfit is a hit for you! Love the colors!
For me, the wrap dress would be too clingy. I might wear the ruana with white jeans and a top in one of the colors in the ruana.

  35. It’s a hit! You look gorgeous in that color and that dress is a stunner. I’m short so it’s too long for me but would love a shorter version. Love the wrap style. Ruanas are not for me but never thought about them as a swimsuit cover. Very clever!

  36. You look gorgeous. Love it all, esp the colors. Yes I would wear it. For me, lower heeled shoes.

  37. So I LOVE the ruana!!!! The fabric on the dress. Not so much. And in FL with the humidity it would stick to skin. But I love the color!!

  38. Sherry L Jackson says:

Total HIT !! love all of it & looks great on you !!

  39. Hit! Great outfit, I am too short for a ruana especially a print one. Those shoes are amazing and a definite for spring or summer.

  40. I’m loving this color too. Just bought a cardigan in this color. Put it on today. Ryan as are a no for me. I bought one from Chicos and never really wore it. One of those items I’d put on and take off. Some one at Goodwill got a nice item.

  41. Charlcy Green says:

Tania, that is a beautiful outfit and makes you look so skinny! I love the colors & those cute sandals make it pop! It would be a great outfit for my high school reunion!

  42. Tania
I love the dress and the ruana. The colors are gorgeous, however, I am petite and the dress would never work for me.
Would you tell us if you have warm or cool undertones? Every color seems to look good on you .

  43. You look really cute in this outfit. It looks to me like you could be headed to a summer wedding but, unfortunately, this one’s a miss for me for several reasons:
    1. It’s just too dressy. I don’t have anywhere to wear it styled this way.
    2. I don’t do maxi dresses, especially in the summer. Why add all that fabric to stick to your legs?
    3. It’s too clingy.
    4. I don’t trust wrap dresses to stay put, though this one is better since only the skirt wraps
    5. I prefer flatter sandals.
I do, however, like the colors and could see wearing the ruana with summer pants and shorter dresses for visiting overly air conditioned places or as a swimsuit coverup.

  44. Kathy Hayles says:

This outfit is definitely a hit for you, but isn’t for me because I’m only 5 ft tall. I love the colors in this outfit today.

  45. Connie Turner says:

I can’t wear a dress that long, I’m too short. But it looks great on you! I love the color and the wrap. You wear it well!

  46. larissa allen says:

You look amazing!! That dress is simply stunning on you…you do not need the ruana. I use those and kimonos to hide my arms from mastectomy surgery and big belly. You look great without it!!!

  47. I love this look! Dress, ruana, shoes and necklace! I am only 5’4 and my legs are awesome so I would cut that maci at the knee but that is the only change!

  48. Hey Tania! I love this dress on you. You look so good in every maxi dress you have styled. The coral is one of my favorite colors. The Ruana is gorgeous. Thank you for this post. Love your Blog! 🌷

  49. Mary Ruth Harden says:

Love the colors and the ruana. Long dresses on me not so good. I feel shorter than my 5’1″ ! And tho I love he orange color I’d need to see if it leaned toward red or gold. You wear it well!

  50. I LOVE THIS ! It’s a hit!

  51. That’s a big HIT and you look gorgeous! I’m not sure I could pull off the bright orange with my red head but I love the look! And I am very drawn to capes, shawls, ponchos, ruanas, wraps etc. Love this look ❤️

  52. Vicki Putney says:

Colors look great on you. Not a color I would wear though. The two pieces are beautiful and look great together, just think the ruana looks boxy next to the sleek dress. and big chunky jewelry is a miss for me. I have gotten rid of all of mine and not going back, no matter the style.

  53. Definitely a hit for you but probably a miss for me. That’s a beautiful color but that modal knit fabric is a ‘skin hugger’. The ruana is pretty (beautiful colors!) and I have a couple I like to wear with more casual outfits. I like the drape and faux wrap of the dress but a maxi is only functional for me as fun occasion or vacation wear (and I have a couple for that purpose); they wouldn’t fit my day to day lifestyle. I like the look of platform shoes and large statement necklaces on others but they aren’t my personal style.

  54. Love the colors on you! Being a shorter gurl, can’t do the maxi dress so would swap it out for a shorter dress. I love the wrap dress style. I would also change out the color to a blue. You can do so much with that particular Ruana!!

  55. Love the outfit and bright colors! I used to stay away from orange and it’s various shades, but now have several items. Yep, we can change our minds!

  56. I love the colorful outfit! It looks great on you. If I were 20 years younger and 20 pounds lighter, I would style it just like you did. It’s a Hit!

  57. Such a pretty outfit – looks fabulous on you! Oranges do not look good with my complexion, but I sure love to look at it. Beautiful!

  58. Leslie Handal says:

A big hit for me as I life at the beach in St.Petersburg Fl. I love it! People come here for vacation and I see this kind of outfits all the time.So for me I can wear it all the time!

    1. Leslie Handal says:

“live” why does that always happen! 🤣

  59. Pam Baker says:

Big hit for me from head to toe!!

  60. Robin Bencher says:

That dress is very elegant on its own, especially in the gray! I can see you in it now, Tania! At 5′ tall, I’d need something shorter or some alterations – but definitely would wear it!

  61. A hit! Great colors in the ruana and the dress! You look fabulous! Are ruanas ok for petites? I am 5’4” and size medium.

    1. Yes, a petite can wear a ruana. You might need to try a few to see which length works best for your body.

  62. This look today is mostly a miss for me. Orange is just not my color. I’m petite at 5’3” so for me I would opt for a just above the knee wrap dress. Love a wrap dress! A timeless shape. And I would wear it in blue which is one of my best colors. No ruana for me. Love espadrilles and I would wear my 2 inch heel pair.

  63. Definitely the entire look is a HIT on you! I’d wear the maxi dress if it was in a medium shade of blue or green to go with the ruana. Can’t wait to see how you style this tomorrow! I’d love to see if with denim.

  64. A hit for sure! I actually have a maxi that color! I love that ruana and it has a matching top!

  65. Joann Czarny says:

Your outfit is a hit and looks terrific! Sadly, orange is no longer a color I can wear now that my previously chestnut colored hair is transitioning into a smokier color. I love the style of this maxi and the blue would be a perfect choice for me. The colorful Ruana is gorgeous and adds so many flattering tones. Well done!

  66. I love it! You look great, and I love the colors. I think one of the tricks here is proper undergarments or shape wear. Would you give us an essential shapewear post?

  67. It’s a hit! Especially if the dress comes in petite.

  68. Great outfit for a tropical vacation. I love orange on other people but it looks terrible on me. I would definitely wear the dress in blue or gray without the ruana. It looks great on you but would be a miss for me.

  69. You look great in the outfit. The dress is a “hit” and the ruana is a “miss” for me in this outfit. I love the ruana and the colors but I don’t think the style goes with the maxi dress…the side knot of the dress sort of conflicts with the length of the ruana…I think a wrap would go better or nothing on the top. Having said that, at 5’2″ I could not wear the dress but it looks lovely..if only I were taller (story of my life)…so it would be just the ruana for me to wear over shorts or jeans etc.

  70. Definitely a hit! I love everything about this outfit, especially the colors!

  71. Ruana – hit; color of the dress – hit; dress on you – hit. I would need a shorter more A-line dress without a tie at the waist for my pear body.

  72. Definitely a HIT! I ♥️ everything about it. The bright orange, the statement ruana, the jewelry and the shoes are all perfect! I’d definitely wear SPANX under it so that I look smooth and firm!😆

  73. Definitely a big HIT. I love it and would wear it. Love the colors

  74. HIT! Love the colour and style of both the dress and ruana. I would definitely wear both.

  75. Love the outfit! Sad the coral version is sold out.

  76. It’s a hit. Love the drape of the dress and the vibrant colors of both pieces.

  77. Tania, beautiful outfit on you from head to toe!! It is a hit for me!

  78. You look pretty in this. Too much pattern for me in top. Dress is too form fitting as you said. It’s a no for me.

  79. I love it! I love the colors and the ability to wear each piece in a different way.

  80. Sheila Dieterich says:

Love this outfit and I would definitely wear it!! You are gorgeous !!

  81. An absolute hit IMO! Love the colors and they style of the dress

  82. Love this entire outfit!! Full speed ahead to spring!!

  83. Love the ruana! I do have to watch lengths though, since I am only 5’1”.
I feel it would look great with white pants and either a white tee or shell or even an orange.

  84. Ginger Hiller says:

You look fabulous in this HIT outfit, that I won’t wear because of the form fitting fabric the dress is made out of. However, I love the ruana and would wear it! I envision so many ways you will wear the ruana to create numerous outfits.

  85. You knocked it out of the ball park!! Gorgeous, I would definitely wear it and upset b/c the dress is sold out, but I’ll keep watching.

  86. Good Morning. For me, the ruana is a definite no. I am just not a fan of anything that flowy or printed. I prefer a more fitted, solid choice. The dress is gray maybe I would wear, but not the other two colors. Although I am not large, I have curvy hips that are very obvious in this cut. I would give it a try in black for sure, if it were available.😊.

  87. I think it’s a great outfit. I love the color of the dress!

  88. rachel paradis says:

I like the dress, especially the color. I’m not sure I would wear the dress alone. The ruana and necklace really make the outfit. They are perfect completer pieces!

  89. Maribeth Conklin says:

I love orange in spring and summer. Not sure I love the dress. I might wear the wrap with jeans and a white tee. I feel like the jewelry is to much with the wrap. Would have to try it on for myself.

  90. Definitely a hit on you! Looks great. Love the dress, I could wear the dress in the gray, but orange & the ruana shape are not for me. Do we get anymore Joes picks? I do love these hit or miss too & the choice between 2 outfits. I love your posts. Thank you Tania

  91. Love the dress and sandals. I’m on the fence with the ruana. I couldn’t see myself wearing it. But if you love it that’s all that matters! 😃

  92. Leah muthoni says:

I love the way you combine your outfits every time…this has taught me to feel young and beautiful in my age…50 is no old!…i am your size…you can ship some to me..😁i wear the same size as you

  93. I just love how you pull together looks! Great wrap and heels and jewelry with the dress. I really like dresses yet find my dresses on hangers and I don’t wear them so how do I vote here? Because I love the outfit but know I won’t wear it.?
