Do you and your husband have a song? You know, the song that was popular when you were dating, or maybe it played at your wedding? If you are like my husband and me, our song became “our song” after we were married. We were having a heated disagreement while driving home in the car. We sat there in silence because we both refused to budge an inch. Then a Randy Travis song started playing on the radio. It was Forever and Ever, Amen. We must have both been listening to the words because our anger melted at the same time. We realized that forever was a long time, and we were going through a minor hiccup in the road.

When I visited my parents a couple of weeks ago, Forever and Ever, Amen came on the TV. I mentioned that it was mine and Joe’s song, and my mother said hers and Dad’s song was The Little Blue Man. My daughter brought the song up on YouTube, and we listened to it while playing a game. If you’ve never heard this song, it isn’t exactly the traditional love song most of us think of as “our song.” In fact, she pushes him off the roof in the song to get rid of him.

While reading Psalms 136, I realized that this is the Lord’s love song for all of us.

Psalms 136

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.

to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever.
who by his understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever.
who spread out the earth upon the waters, His love endures forever.
who made the great lights— His love endures forever.
the sun to govern the day, His love endures forever.
the moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever.

10 to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt His love endures forever.
11 and brought Israel out from among them His love endures forever.
12 with a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love endures forever.

13 to him who divided the Red Sea asunder His love endures forever.
14 and brought Israel through the midst of it, His love endures forever.
15 but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea; His love endures forever.

16 to him who led his people through the wilderness; His love endures forever.

17 to him who struck down great kings, His love endures forever.
18 and killed mighty kings— His love endures forever.
19 Sihon king of the Amorites His love endures forever.
20 and Og king of Bashan— His love endures forever.
21 and gave their land as an inheritance, His love endures forever.
22 an inheritance to his servant Israel. His love endures forever.

23 He remembered us in our low estate His love endures forever.
24 and freed us from our enemies. His love endures forever.
25 He gives food to every creature. His love endures forever.

26 Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

What if we added, “His love endures forever” after everything happening in our week? The baby is crying, and I am ready to pull my hair out, “His love endures forever” I just wrecked the car, “His love endures forever” I lost my job, “His love endures forever” Would that change your thought pattern? Would you start to realize that whatever is happening around is just a hiccup in the road because the Lord is with you and “His love endures forever”?

I hope that knowing that the Lord’s love endures forever (lasting or existing forever, without end or beginning) gives you as much peace as it does me. Nothing you can ever do or ever say will take away His love…IT IS FOREVER AND EVER, AMEN!

To God Goes The Glory!

Have A Blessed Day!

  4. Tania, Thank you so much for this thought on Psalm 136. It blessed me so much, that I wrote the last two paragraphs into my Bible next to Psalm 136 (I have a wide margin Bible, otherwise it wouldn’t have fit!). And, I always write down where or from whom the information came, so now your name is in my Bible! Sometimes I am asked to give a devotional thought in a women’s group, may I use your application of this Psalm?

  7. I read this week that whenever something contrary to our liking happens- we should stop and tell God something we are grateful for. Your post reminded me of that. I like the idea of adding God’s love is forever. Focusing our eyes on the blessings and love if God chases our enemy away. Thank you for your posts. Have a blessed week!
