50 IS NOT OLD | FUR, VELVET, AND LEATHERGood morning, gurls, from Lake Oconee in Georgia! The sun is shining and it is GORGEOUS!!! I could get used to this life. Lol!!! I am sitting here doing the blog while I am overlooking the lake. It is crazy how beautiful and relaxing it is here. I am almost glad that it is cold right now or I wouldn’t be able to get any work done, I would be out sitting on the patio or down at the dock. You will be seeing plenty of photos next week since I brought my camera (crossing my fingers) to take pictures with. Those of you who said that you would like to see some outdoor pictures are going to love that series!50 IS NOT OLD | FUR, VELVET, AND LEATHERI want to thank everyone who has commented so far on my “what do you like, want to see different” post. Be sure to check it out (here) and leave a comment to be entered into a drawing for a Kate Spade bangle bracelet. I was a tiny bit afraid to ask, “what do you like, want to see different” because you never know what the answers will be. BUT, I am loving all the comments and love that you gurls have been showing me. Shoot, I might make this a weekly post. Lol!!! I do like the idea of styling something several different ways so I will try to incorporate more of that into my posts. I was afraid you would say, “I have already seen that shirt, let’s move on” but until you try something new you just never know.
50 IS NOT OLD | FUR, VELVET, AND LEATHERSpeaking of something new, how do you like this hat? Isn’t it the cutest thing? I have these pictures fixed so that you can see the fur detail on the vest and hat but it makes my eyes look freaky. I bought this vest when I was in Marietta at a little store on the square. It was the same store where I bought a pair of snakeskin knee boots earlier in November. I love this vest because the fur is just down the lapels. A full vest of fur would make me look like a big bear. Lol! I looked for a label on the vest but the only thing I could find was a “G” on the inside. When I bought this vest they had it in two colors, the black, and a winter white. I ALMOST bought the white one because it was so striking but finally decided to go with the black because I was afraid that I couldn’t keep the white one clean. I did find a link to a white one so if you are interested you can check it out.

50 IS NOT OLD | FUR, VELVET, AND LEATHERI wanted earrings that would show up against the backdrop of the black vest. The Sam earrings looked amazing against the vest and the silver popped. I have on the Gwen and the Ezra black bling bracelet today along with a large stone bracelet that was from a Plunder Posse shipment. You can barely see the “S” from my Bree necklace showing. I like this necklace because it is dainty and just fits in the space of a lot of necklines. I also added the Lizzy necklace which I love after I modified it and took off the cream tassel. I still have the tassel so I can reattach it later if I want. I ordered 500.00 in Plunder jewelry the other day! I have decided to up the ante. From the 15th of the month until the last day of January, when you order at least 75.00 (excluding taxes and shipping) you will get ONE additional piece of jewelry from me. But, if you order at least 125.00 (excluding taxes and shipping) then you will get TWO items from me! January is the month to make your purchases!!! Go to plunderdesign.com/taniastephens to place an order and be sure to pick a party with my name on it. 50 IS NOT OLD | FUR, VELVET, AND LEATHERThe black leather boots are by Bandolino. I bought them at a clearance sale on year at Belk. Be on the lookout at this time of year for all of these type sales. Try to pick a style that you think you will be able to wear for years to come. This pair is basic and black so that is something that shouldn’t go out of style anything soon.

50 IS NOT OLD | FUR, VELVET, AND LEATHERThe hat is vintage! It is something that I purchased when we held a vintage fashion show for our woman’s club this past year. I am not a “hat” person because I have a big head (no comments please) but I couldn’t pass this one up. It was cold this morning so I wore it to work fully expecting some comments from Gerald. He didn’t disappoint me as he said he thought he remembered his 85-year-old granny wearing hats like this. I told him that she must have been very stylish then. Lol! The multi-colored tunic I have on is by Umgee. I haven’t been buying this brand near as much because it is hard to find online to link to. I buy my Umgee either through local boutiques or on Amazon. I have on my black velvet leggings with this look. Because the tunic is long I don’t have to worry about my booty showing. Lol!

  1. I really like the pearls with the vest! I need to do this 🙂 Like other readers, I LOVE your blog! Your sense of humor and honesty is so refreshing and your blog has not gone “commercial” like so many others have, which keeps me reading on a daily basis. I have been following you for almost 2 years. I found your blog through another blogger, you were doing a guest post or something and I have been following you ever since. Please don’t change too much!!

Woohoo, adorable fun outfit!! I love the fur long vest and the hat together. I have that same hat and it wasnt my Granny’s or vintage. I love wearing mine and feel like a Russian princess when I wear it. You look like one too! I cant wait for the outdoor photos!

  3. You look cute in everything! In looking at the hat it took me back to when I was a kid, my hip grandma had a fur hat so I wore it to school one time. I remember being called Kruschev..haha (kruschev was probably before your time)! I didn’t care cause I liked the hat, I was also a fan of the movie Dr. Zhivago, good memories!!

I love the outfit! I like to travel and try to pack light. Maybe a series on taking a few pieces and making it work for a week with jewelry, scarves, etc? I try to stay in one color palette, usually blacks, blues or grays when traveling and that helps me, just wanting some tips on looking put together without 5 suitcases!

  5. Love the outfit and the vest. Would love to see you style some J Jill clothes!

  6. Tania, I love your humor and how you write about your life. I especially like your Sunday devos. I am not a fan of all your suede booties. Sorry, but not my style, just too bright. Can’t wait for spring to arrive and to see spring fashion.

    1. Forgot to say that I love your vintage hat. Tres chic!

  7. I love your blog, it’s like sitting with your girlfriend and chatting! I enjoy your mix of casual wear and dressier items, I wouldn’t change a thing!

  8. Sandy Smith says:

Love the hat, but I don’t look too good in them. Would you consider sharing what foundation Make up you Use as part of your menopause series? As my skin ages I can’t find one that doesn’t feel too heavy or settle in the cracks like powder foundation does. I am using the R+F products for almost 3 months now. Love today’s outfit!

  9. L H Carter says:

Oh my goodness! How cute are you today with the hat and without the hat?! Love the fur vest and agree with you about all fur turning the wearer into a big fat bear. SQUEAL—the fringe and the patterned blouse with black trimmed cuffs with the black. velvet leggings and boots— Absolutely awesome!! I am so in love with how you look that I have forgotten all grammar rules of written communication. Forgive me for the in coherency.

  10. Speaking of Old Navy, I am going to stop in, as I haven’t since my daughter used to love to frequent the place. Seeing all your cute finds from there has inspired me, Tania!

  11. I like this look a lot…it’s hippie chick-meet-stylish-meets-slimming-meets-rich-meets-comfy. Totally suitable:)

  12. Susan Harper says:

Wow! I love it. You are so good at pulling things together. I wish you could come help me in my closet. I’m afraid if I tried to pull off all that pattern, shape, and texture I would look like a thrift store reject.

  13. Glad you are enjoying your time away! The outfit is striking. I love the tiic colors!
    Best…kathy

  14. Such a fun, unexpected outfit! Thank for encouraging us to try new things ?

Hi Tania, This whole outfit looks great! But that vest is the BOMB! I love wearing a vest instead of a coat. The vest is much more stylish. You have me wanting velvet leggings. ?. You’ve asked for suggestions, so I have been trying to think of some…. but honestly I love what you do and how you do it. I like the variety of outfits because you do it all from casual to dressy. I love that you use classic, everyone should have in their closet pieces, to brand new pieces that we can purchase. And you totally complete the look with jewelry, scarves, shoes, and purse. For me it is about styling what I currently have in my closet to create a different look and you help me do that for sure. I travel a lot for work so when I pack ( which I don’t like to do) I find myself saying, “now what would Tania pack” ? I also purchase things you link for us in the blog so I love that you do that. Have fun on your girls weekend!

  17. Please Tania, we are lucky enough to know your style secrets can we PLEASE know your hair secrets….please??

  18. I’ve been wondering about your hair products? I have a similar style cut but it never stays as “full” looking as yours. Do you have any hair secrets to share with us?? Thanks!
