The Key to a Perfect Transition Outfit

Tania Stephens, over 50 fashion blogger, wearing a Sea Mist cardigan, a striped top, and straight leg jeans from J.Jill for a spring transition look

Here is why I think this is the perfect transition outfit for spring. In winter, everything is brown and gray because the grass and leaves are gone. Snow clouds are gray and foreboding, and the lack of sunshine can be depressing. This outfit, in its beautiful blue/green hues, lifts the spirits. It reminds us that the flowers will soon pop through the ground, the grass will turn green, and leaves will cover the trees.

Things to consider when creating a transition outfit:

  • Layering is essential when winter is lingering but spring is calling.
  • Lightweight cardigans add warmth without bulk.
  • Choosing colors that feel fresh and uplifting helps shift your wardrobe into spring mode.

If this Short Patch-Pocket Cardi (in a medium) doesn’t lift your spirits, I don’t know what will. This color is called Sea Mist, which is a great description of the color. I love the look and feel of this cardigan, which is the perfect weight for transitioning into spring. The mint cardigan adds a refreshing touch that feels spring-like but still cozy.

I paired it with a matching Relaxed Boat-Neck Tee in a medium. You could also wear a white or navy top for a different look. Stripes are a timeless classic that works year-round, and you could pair the top with a navy blazer for a slightly dressier option.

How to Style This Look for Different Occasions

  • Dressing it up: Add statement jewelry to elevate the outfit.
  • Casual errands: Pair with comfortable sneakers for an easy, everyday look.
  • Weekend brunch: Swap the jeans for white or light-wash denim for an even breezier feel.

Straight-leg jeans keep things polished but relaxed, making them a great bridge between seasons. These High-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans (in size 8) are flattering to pretty much everyone. They are a classic that never goes out of style, so you’ll get years of wear from them.

The Katrina Bit Soft Sole Nappa Loafers (true to size) are classic, comfortable, and match the striped top perfectly. This sleek style loafer is trending this year, moving away from the chunky lug soles of the winter. I love how these fit, and they are so versatile.

The Pebble Leather Crossbody Bag keeps the outfit looking polished. It matches the navy in the striped top and pairs with the loafers effortlessly. The horsebit gold embellishment is also trending this year. You’ll see it a lot in jewelry and on shoes.

I don’t care what the groundhog said; Spring is just around the corner, so now is the perfect time to start transitioning your wardrobe! This J.Jill outfit is a great example of how to blend comfort and style while embracing the fresh, hopeful feel of a new season. What are you most excited to wear this spring? I’m not sure about the loafer trend yet. They still look clunky to me.
I do have a question about all that meat in the freezer. I know carnivore means meat but can you add veggies and other foods to it?

    1. Th sleek loafer is great; I think you’ll like this trend. With the carnivore diet, there are no fruits or veggies. It has to be from an animal, so meat eggs, and dairy.
