FLORAL PRINTS AREN’T JUST FOR SPRING
How many of you have seen the movie, The Devil Wears Prada? I have watched that movie hundreds of times, and I can’t believe that it has been fifteen years since it came out. One of my favorite scenes in the movie was when Miranda Priestly says, “florals…for spring? Groundbreaking.” Now, florals and spring have become synonymous, but floral prints aren’t just for spring!
Floral prints for fall
More and more retailers are starting to show us floral prints that are fall and winter appropriate. The floral prints will usually be a deeper color for fall, and the spring prints will be lighter and brighter. I love the fall florals this year, partly because it is a change of pace and partly because I love the burgundy and olive tones.
This lightweight quilted zip vest has the shades of burgundy and olive that I mentioned above, plus different shades of blue and a tiny bit of golden yellow. That gives the wearer a wide variety of ways to wear the vest making it more versatile. I have become a huge fan of lightweight vests since it adds a layer of warmth but doesn’t add bulk in the arm area. It leaves my arms open to move and do my work.
Usually, I will leave my vests open; however, you can zip it closed if the wind starts to blow and you want that extra protection. This vest is fully lined, and as you can see, it hits me at my hips for a flattering look.
Here is a close-up look at the floral print and the quilted material. This photo also shows you the button snap pockets and the princess seams that give the vest a slimming look. I am wearing a medium in the vest, and it fits me great, even with a ribbed turtleneck under it.
I could have added several different shirt options, but I chose this ribbed turtleneck top in burgundy. The pink and burgundy tones were what I wanted to highlight in the vest, and the burgundy turtleneck worked great. I also think that a blue button-up shirt would work wonderfully. Here is a long-sleeved one that is wrinkle-free.
I am wearing a medium in the ribbed turtleneck, and that is the best size for me. I have similar turtlenecks in this color, but this one is thicker and nicer, so I often find myself reaching for it.
For my bottom half, I chose knit denim pull-on slim jeans. The flat elastic waist fits smoothly under tops so that you won’t have bunching. These knit jeans are perfect for ladies who aren’t fond of jeans made from a heavy and thicker material. The jeans are lightweight and soft, so I find them to feel like a well-worn pair of jeans that you’ve had for years.
These jeans fit me well, and the legs have a nice opening and don’t fit tightly against my legs. The jeans are garment-dyed, so they won’t shrink, fade or lose their shape. For sizing reference, I am wearing a medium, and they fit me nicely.

Good day, I was happy to have your account pop-up on my feed. I too am over 50 and love this time in my life. I too am a women of faith. Curious how you could have watched The Devil Wears Prada more than once??? It is about a superficial horrible women, verbally abusing young women. As if fashion is the end all be all in life?? That movie has a horrible message for young women. Young women shouldn’t think they have to be treated poorly by older women to reach their goals. Some of the most beautiful and loving women I have ever met didn’t dress fashionably.
I love florals in the Fall! Thank you for showing this!
