FIVE OUTFITS PERFECT FOR A FALL WEDDING
There is something magical about a fall wedding. The temperatures aren’t soaring, so the guests and wedding parties aren’t sweaty and hot. There is a crispness to the air, and the foliage is gorgeous. I love fall weddings for all of those reasons, and since a lot of you have been asking me about them, a lot of other people must love them too.
Questions about a Fall Wedding
Most of the questions about a fall wedding have to do with what to wear. Before I give out suggestions on clothing, I usually ask a few questions.
- where is the venue
- is the wedding formal or casual
- will the wedding be held indoors or outside
- do you want to wear a dress or would something else work
If the wedding is in a barn and the decor is country, a dress with cowboy boots would look cute. However, wearing a long dress with sequins would look out of place, so the venue and style of the wedding are big things to consider.
Another big thing to consider is if the wedding and reception are going to be indoors or outside. If they are indoors, then you are fine to wear something sleeveless and off the shoulder. But, if the wedding and reception are outdoors, you might want to wear something that has a wrap or jacket. The air can turn cool in the afternoon, and you don’t want to be freezing as you take a bite of the wedding cake.
You also need to decide if you want to wear a dress, slacks, jumpsuit, pants, or maybe even jeans. Depending on the style of the wedding, try to dress similarly. Shoes are also something to think about when you are deciding on your outfit. Don’t pick an outfit that requires heels if you know that you will be walking in the grass. Your heels will sink into the grass and get muddy and dirty, so think about the area you will be sitting in when thinking about shoes.
The minute that I saw this gorgeous floral dress, I thought about a fall wedding. Even though the dress is a floral pattern, which is usually associated with spring and summer, the colors are perfect for fall.
The midi-length of the dress is flirty, and it shows a little leg. You will look fabulous as you twist and twirl out on the dancefloor. The dress has 3/4 length sleeves that have a patterned wideband and button spread collar. I like how the neckline is open, which helps to elongate your neck.
The dress comes with a self-tie belt to cinch in at the waist. I love the look and fit of this dress, and I am wearing a large.
Here is another floral dress, but this one is brighter in color and longer in length. A maxi dress is an excellent option for those who don’t want to show their legs at this time of the year.
This is an off-the-shoulder style dress, and the shoulders are one of the places that don’t show age. So, when you are trying to hide your legs or arms, you can still bare your shoulders for a flirty and sexy look.
I am carrying a lambskin leather Vince Camuto tote bag that I bought last year. This is the handbag that I found my sunglasses in that had been missing for at least 8-10 months. I hardly ever carry black bags in the summer, but I love them in the fall and winter. Since this one is no longer available, I’ll link to similar ones.
Everyone doesn’t wear dresses, and some prefer to wear pants to a wedding. This black and red outfit would look nice, and you could keep your legs covered. I love this outfit, especially the unique detail on the pants. Did you spot the detail?
These slim pull-on black pants have a split leg on the inside ankle. I read that these pants run a tad big, so I ordered a medium, and they fit me perfectly. I love this detail, and I think it looks classy and sexy at the same time. The black color has already sold out, but there is a burgundy color available.
The star of this outfit is the red and black floral top. This Ponte knit top feels luxurious, and the slight peplum style is very slimming to the eye. The top has a slim fit, so I was unsure what size to order. I ended up ordering a large because of the slim fit, but I should have gone with a medium instead.
I tend to wear something more lighthearted and fun, such as the floral dresses. But, some ladies prefer to be more formal in their styles. I ordered this black jacket with white trim because I thought it looked polished and elegant. This jacket could be worn to church, a meeting, or work, and you would always look put together. The only downfall to the jacket is that it has to be dry-cleaned.
I thought that this jacket ran a little large. I’m wearing a 10, but it is too big for me, especially through the chest area.
The fit and flare black crepe dress is gorgeous in person. I love the way this dress fits me, and the slight flare to the skirt gives me some much-needed curves. The boat neck neckline and wide straps bring the eye outward, and the overall effect is an hourglass shape. I am wearing a size 10 in the dress instead of my usual size 12, and it fits me perfectly.
This pine green halter maxi dress is GORGEOUS! Yes, this dress would look great for a winter or fall wedding, but I think winter photos made in the dress would be fabulous. I would wear a blond mink stole with it and wait to have the photos made when there is snow on the ground.
This is a tiered dress with an elastic-smocked waistline. I love the sheerness of the sleeves and that the dress is completely lined. This dress is very feminine, and the halter straps at the neckline combined with the off-the-shoulder sleeves look sassy! I am wearing a medium in the dress, and it fits me perfectly!
The remaining items worn in this post are:
- Avi Gold Hoop Earrings
- Beckett Link Bracelet
- David Yurman Cable Loop Bracelet
- Layton Gold Statement Necklace
- Franco Sarto Wedge heels

Someone asked how I pick the winner of each week’s giveaway. Since I ask you to leave a comment, I add all of the comments together for the week, and then I ask Siri (or Joe) to pick a random number between 1 and ??? Then, I count backward until I reach the comment that corresponds with the random number. Whew! I am sure that is as clear as mud.
So, the winner of last week’s 6th Blog Anniversary celebration was Stella!!! This week starts a brand new giveaway, and you can be entered by commenting on this week’s posts, AND, you must be an email subscriber!

I love the floral maxi dress. It looks beautiful on you!
I also need to update my LBD and this looks like it would fit the bill.
Yes, all lovely on you. I was surprised that you would take such large handbags to a wedding – here in England we would take a little evening bag. The little differences between our fashions interest me but I still get plenty of tips from you, thank you.
Enjoyed this blog! I have a wedding to attend in November that will be held in a barn venue. I purchased the red floral top to wear with either my black pants or black shirt! Thanks for all you share! God bless you!
Love the black dress. However, they all look fabulous on you. And your hair looks especially good in all these photos.
Beautiful dresses.
Nice dresses, especially the maxis, although I’m leery of off the shoulder tops.
You look amazing in all of the wedding outfits!
Love these outfits! You are an inspiration!
I like both maxi dresses and the pants outfit. I lean towards the pants since I hardly ever wear dresses. It’s such a great outfit, which would work great for a date or work also. I do like the black and white jacket.
All the dresses are lovely. The black one is my favorite, though.
Love the red top and black pants and that black dress is gorgeous. Love also how the jewelry you select really completes the outfit. You have really helped me in choosing outfits thanks!
Even though I’m short I’m still fond of floral patterns and Love the long dress! Also love the black pants and red top. Classy! (really love that little dog too)

The first dress is gorgeous on you. When I saw the pic I loved everything about it.
This is a great selection of wedding attire. I particularly love the floral dresses and the pants outfit. The detail on the pants is great and I love the peplum look of the blouse. Have a great day!
Love all those dresses!!
I like all of the dresses for various reasons. But what I REALLY like is your explanation of why you would choose each dress, how you feel in the dress, etc. This is what sets you apart from the other bloggers! MAKE IT a great day!
I too was surprised that the dresses were from Penney’s. Although I should have remembered that when my daughter was in high school, we could find the best dress selection for her there for the various “dances”. Sweet memory. Sweet dresses!
Love the first dress with the flirty sleeve details.
I LOVE the green maxi dress, just beautiful!

Love the floral dress, just ordered it! I check your emails daily for inspiration. In fact, after reading your info, found out we’re practically neighbors. I’m originally from Elkhorn City, KY just across the border 😊 it is a small world!
The floral shirtwaist is my favorite. The colors are beautiful. I like the look of a maxi dress, but in reality I don’t choose them when I’m getting dressed! But then, I haven’t been to a wedding since summer 2019, and that was a semi formal event.
Tania, that pine green maxi is stunning! Fall/winter are my favorite seasons and I can just picture how beautiful that dress would look for a wedding! The gorgeous foliage backdrop in the fall and a cold, snowy country church setting in the winter months.
Love the looks you presented in this post. I especially like the red and black top you styled with the black pant suit.
