Fifteen Great Outerwear Options for Fall
I think fall is my favorite season! Maybe it’s all of the years I spent on benches watching football games or just the general beauty of changing leaves, but I can’t wait to start wearing my fall clothes. If you’re like me you’re in luck because I’m sharing fifteen great outerwear options for fall for you to order now!
Eight Great Outerwear Options for Fall – Talbots

When you think of outerwear, you might think of long wool car coats and heavy puffers. However, for fall, I love adding cardigans, jackets, blazers, and lightweight coats as my outerwear. I love the look of this double-breasted houndstooth blazer, and it is something I can wear now and later in the fall.
I LOVE this Denim Trench Coat! The length is perfect for a dress, but it would also look great with a pair of pants and a nice, crisp blouse. This is casual, it is denim, after all, but it still manages to look chic. It’s a great transitional coat as it’s not too thick and would be great for layering.
A Quilted Vest is a wonderful way to slowly move into fall. You can wear this with a sweater or a thin, long sleeve shirt. Layering is always a good idea during this season. Even better, the vest is in a bright magenta, one of fall’s trending colors!
This cascading travel vest is so pretty. This whole look – the jeans, the crisp white shirt, the vest – just screams casual elegance. This is a perfect light layer, and I love the slight metallic look it has. It’s under $100 dollars, but it looks much more expensive.
A blazer is a great choice for fall outerwear, especially if you have meetings or work events that require a more formal look. This beauty is a blended knit and fully lined. I’ve owned a lot of blazers in my life, and I will say that there is a definite difference in quality depending on what you spend.
April showers may bring May flowers, but autumn showers just make your clothes damp. Lol. When you’re deciding what outerwear you need this fall, don’t neglect a good raincoat! This “water resistant” coat has a nice hood, button flap pockets, and is made from breathable cotton. It’s a great, every “rainy-day” look!
A field jacket is a great, classic look for fall. This jacket has utility pockets, adjustable sleeves, and a drawstring cinched waist. It’s also available in Petite sizes, so you should have no trouble finding the perfect fit.
I love the name of this – “Casual Jacket“. Lol. Nice job, Talbots! Don’t waste time with fashion euphemisms like “Informal Sheath”; let’s just tell it like it is. If you haven’t figured it out yet, this is a “casual jacket” in a very nice fall color that you can wear just about anywhere. It also comes in yellow if you want more of a pop of color.

A Lightweight Padded Jacket is an essential fall item when the temperatures start to drop. I love the camel color of this jacket, which reminds me of the color of the changing leaves. I’m wearing a large, which fits a bit loose, giving me room to add a heavy sweater to the look when the weather gets even cooler.
It rains pretty often where I live, so having outerwear that is water-resistant is a smart idea. If the weather is chilly and you get wet, your whole body is chilled to the bone. This Off-White Lightweight Vest will help to keep you dry and looking stylish at the same time. I’m wearing a medium vest, but it is too snug for me to add a sweater underneath it, so I’ll need to size up. If you are in-between sizes, I recommend sizing up.
Olive green is my favorite fall color right now. Next week that could all change, but for now, I am loving this color. I was thrilled that I ordered the correct size (large) in this Lightweight Quilted Vest, so it is already hanging in my closet.
I’ve always wanted an off-white puffer jacket, and now I have one!!! I didn’t want to invest a ton of money in an off-white jacket because I know how messy I can be. This one is super cute and water-resistant, and I love the way it fits. I’m wearing a medium, and it still gives me enough room to wear a sweater.
A camel coat is so versatile! This would be great with a more formal outfit, like a skirt or dress, but it would also look amazing with jeans and some loafers. This camel Blazer Jacket is a relaxed fit, so think about how relaxed you want it to be when ordering. It’s lightweight and comes in several fall colors. The best news? It’s under $40 dollars!
Everyone, man, woman, or child, needs a Pea Coat! This is perfect for when those fall nights get a little bit colder. This jacket has a ton of good reviews and comes in several colors. It’s a great jacket for $45 dollars!
Great outerwear options for fall don’t have to be a jacket. This Oversized Turtleneck Sweater is perfect for fall evenings. I’d wear a thin T-shirt underneath in case I needed to take it off and pair it with a pair of jeans and boots. I love it in the gorgeous rust brown color shown, but there are other variations that are equally cute. And, of course, it’s also under $40 dollars.

Love the vests!
Hi Tania! I immediately ordered the field jacket from Talbot. I’m one of those “gurls” who has to have a jacket or sweater in EVERY sitauation snd I’ve been wanting one of these for a long time but at 5’0” they’re all too big. 50% off plus 5%? Yes thanks. I noticed bad reviews so we will see.
I pay no attention to reviews, except on sizing. People who love items rarely take the time to comment, but people who are unhappy love to save how unhappy they are. 🙄
I especially like the vests!
Love all of these outerwear looks, but the green jacket from Talbots is my favorite. Please send Joe to my house – lots of windows for him to clean!😄
🤣🤣🤣
Love the berry colored vest! A few years ago we moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Sierra foothills, and I have found the vest to be my go to piece of winter clothing. Its warm but less confining than a coat.
I am glad that you enjoyed this post! Thanks for commenting. ❤️
I love fall and love all these looks. my favorite is the tweed jacket. I would never have thought to pair it with jeans and a tshirt but looks great on you.
The green vest is in my bag too! Love green!
That shade of green is my favorite for fall.
It just wears me out to wear a heavy coat. I’m thankful that our weather is usually not too bad and I can get by with a light coat or jacket. Lots of great options in this post.

I recently purchased the Anrabess blazer jacket and I love it!
I want all of these jackets. Lol
I haven’t worn a blazer since we went to work casual in the office and for sure not since I retired. But I have bought a couple this spring early summer on sale to try for fall and winter. Ready to give it a try. My go to was always a sweater. Time to see if my taste have changed.
Barb, I like both options. A sweater is usually what I reach for, but a blazer makes an outfit look much more polished.
