Waiting for the Right Gift: Trusting God’s Perfect Timing

Praying for Guidance Each Week

I never know what my topic is going to be each Sunday. Every week, I pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal a subject to me, and I watch and wait for His direction. I’ve heard people say the Spirit can use just about anything to speak to us, even TV commercials. I can believe it, because one of the clearest lessons I ever learned came from an equally unlikely place.

A Girl’s Trip and an Unexpected Lesson

Several years ago, I went on a girls’ trip to Nashville with some of my friends. It was one of those big events where you gather with women from all over, and the energy in the room was contagious. The ladies in charge handed out tickets at the door, letting us know they would be giving away prizes throughout the evening. We all tucked our tickets in our handbags and settled in for the presentations.

The Prizes That Got Awa

When the drawings started, I could feel the excitement building. One by one, numbers were called and gifts were claimed. Some of the prizes were wonderful, and I secretly hoped my ticket would be drawn. Other times, I was relieved it wasn’t my number since I already owned the gift. Still, as the night went on, I found myself feeling a little disappointed.

Just when I thought all the prizes were gone, one of the organizers came back out carrying a big bag filled with even better gifts. The crowd perked up. She pulled out a gorgeous charcoal gray monogrammed sweatshirt, and the whole room let out a collective “ooooh.” Everyone wanted it, me included. But once again, it went home with someone else.

The Gift Meant for Me

I sighed, thinking that was my chance, and it had passed. But then, she reached back into her bag and pulled out another sweatshirt, this one bright pink. My color! Pink has always been one of my favorites, and I knew it would be perfect for me. She called out the number, and this time, it was mine!

I slipped that sweatshirt over my tee and wore it proudly the rest of the night. Women kept coming over to admire it and told me I’d won the best gift of all. And they were right.

What the Holy Spirit Taught Me

Later, back at the hotel, I took off the sweatshirt and realized what the Holy Spirit had been showing me. It wasn’t about winning a gift at all. It was about learning to wait for the right gift. I had been willing to settle for something less just because it came sooner, and I was disappointed each time my number wasn’t called. But God knew what He had planned for me, and it was better than anything I could have imagined.

A Verse to Hold Onto

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Patience is not easy. Most of us would rather grab the lesser, known thing in front of us than risk waiting on the unknown. But the Lord reminds us that His timing and His gifts are far better than anything we could arrange on our own.

The Bright Pink Reminder

Even now, whenever I wear that bright pink sweatshirt, I’m reminded that God’s plans are always better than mine. I might not know what’s ahead, but I’m so grateful that He does.

To God Goes The Glory!

Have a Blessed Day!

Let’s End With A Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding us that Your plans are always better than our own. Teach us to wait patiently and trust in Your perfect timing, even when it feels easier to settle for less. Help us to let go of disappointment and hold onto hope, knowing that You have good things prepared for us. Strengthen our faith when the waiting feels long, and remind us that Your gifts are always worth the wait.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Tania, thank you sooo much for today’s post. I have ovarian cancer and I’ve had 6 rounds of chemo, a surgery and I just had my ct scan yesterday to see if I’m cancer free. I read the results and it indicates there’s still a cyst remaining. I’m so scared that it is cancer. I don’t see my Dr for almost two weeks so I know I’ll be stressing. Your post came at the right time. I need to give it God and not stress over it. He’s bigger than the cancer and he knows what plans he has for me. Thank you again and Praise God for this message.

    1. Anna, I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. I know it is scary. Trusting in His plan is hard. We can only do what we think is best, and then lean into Him for comfort.

  5. I sure needed to hear this today! I’ve been struggling with “the wait” for what I think I need now, what I know I need asap. All in Gods time. Thank you

    1. I understand. We don’t have all the answers, and came see that the Lord might be working on something even better for us.

Tania you are so on point today with something I needed to hear. I just lost my mom in early August and I’m having trouble with an empty feeling. You used my life verse today and I need to just pray and have patience. (I was last on line for that). Thank you for reminding of God’s grace and love.

    1. Sue, nothing will ever be able to replace your mom. Pray to the Lord for strength and He will get you through this difficult time.

I can’t really say I’ve won anything but when I think about it, boy, I have been blessed behind measure on discovering a treasure at an Estate Sale or my local thrift store. I am aware of His provision for every little thing I need and even things that I don’t need but bring me such joy!!
Thank you for sharing Tania as it made me reflect on how much He is aware of our every need (and not need).

  10. Beautiful message today Tania ❤️
