Are You Listening
Several of you have asked me how I can find something to post about each week. I don’t have a posting calendar or a chart that I can refer to when it comes to posting. I sit down at my computer and post about whatever is in my mind. But today, my thoughts are all about silence.
I’m sure all of you have heard that “Silence is golden.” Silence can be a good thing when you need to concentrate. My daughter always wanted music playing when she was studying for a big test, but I need silence when I do something similar. This is not the silence I am talking about; I am talking about God’s silence.
Each week, I pray for the Lord to direct me to a topic that someone needs to hear. I try to pay attention to “signs” that might occur throughout the week. However, this week, I didn’t pick up on anything. Maybe I was distracted, but it seemed like God was silent.
Last night, every time I woke up, I prayed for a sign or a message to post about. Once again, it seemed like God was silent. I started thinking about why He was quiet, and I began to worry and panic. How many of you can relate?
Have you experienced times in your life where you feel like God is silent? Maybe you have even wondered, “Is He even listening?” “Does He care that this is happening to me?” What do we do when we feel abandoned?
As all of these thoughts were going through my mind, I started to examine “my” behavior. Have I been holding up my end of the relationship, or have I been on auto-pilot and going through the motions? Yikes, I am guilty. Why would the Lord want to talk to me if I am off thinking about other things? So, what do we do?
Read His Word
Jeremiah 33:3 NIV
3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
The Lord is talking to us all the time; we only have to open our Bible to find His words. I want everything to come to me in the easiest way possible. Having to search and read the Bible is harder than just looking for signs of His words.
Spend Time In Prayer
Psalms 17:6 NIV
6 I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
The Lord hears your petitions, and the Lord welcomes your prayers. Are you talking to the Lord, or are you the one being silent? We should use prayer as a way to grow closer to the Lord. We should tell Him our fears and our worries even though He already knows everything.
Pursue The Lord
Part of a relationship can mean that there are times when we need to be the ones in pursuit of the Lord. Our Lord is a jealous God, and He wants to know that there are no other gods before Him.
Exodus 34:14 NIV
14 Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
If you find that the Lord is silent, maybe that means that “YOU” need to be the one doing the talking. A relationship is not a one-way street, and we need to do our part.
To GOD Goes The Glory!
Have A Blessed Day!
I was reading through my old emails… and glad I clicked on this. I needed to read this today!
Thank you!
