A SIMPLE OUTFIT THAT CAN BE WORN ANYTIME THIS FALL
It is a beautiful fall morning here in Virginia. The air is crisp and cool, and the sky is a gorgeous bluebird color. These type of days that are perfect for going pumpkin shopping, or even meeting the hubby for a lunch date. Lunch dates don’t often happen since he usually is golfing or at the airport, but we will grab a bite together every blue moon or so.
This is a simple outfit that can be worn anytime this fall. It is just a sweater and a pair of jeans, and then you can accessorize it however you want. The key to wearing this look repeatedly is to switch out the scarf, jewelry, shoes, and maybe even add a coat or vest. Change things up each time, and you can get lots of wear from your clothing.

This ribbed mockneck sweater is super soft, and I like the balloon sleeves. The sleeves aren’t oversized, and I like the way they look. The heathered mushroom color is muted and a great alternative to wearing camel. It seems like I have a closetful of camel, but not many things in this color. The sweater also comes in black, gray, and a light purple color if this color doesn’t work for your skin tone. I’m wearing a medium, and it is the correct size for me.
Here is the view from the back, and you can see that the sweater doesn’t cling to me. The length of the sweater is about hip length, so probably not long enough to wear with leggings.
This classic plaid scarf is fabulous for the upcoming seasons. I love all of the colors in the scarf, and plaid is fabulous for the holidays. I have one almost identical to this one that I’ve worn for years. My favorite way is to wear it with a coat. You can tie these in so many ways, and they are great for an added layer of warmth.
Most of the time, especially if I wear a scarf with a coat, I just let the scarf hang loose. Sometimes I will knot them at the neck to keep me warm, but I prefer not to have them bunched under my chin.
I love these flare jeans in a mid-indigo wash. These are high-waisted jeans with a 12 1/2″ rise, and they are fitted through the hips and thighs. They flare out for a nice look from the knee down, but they are not oversized like the 70s flares. I ordered the tall version of the jeans because I want them long enough to wear with my platform boots. Unfortunately, these are too big on me, so I’m sending them back and ordering the next size down. I also ordered these in the lighter wash color, but like these, they have to go back because of being too big.
My platform boots were back in Grundy, so I wore this suede chunky heel pump instead. The heel is not that high at 1 3/4″, so I think that most of you could manage this shoe. I love the pointy toe since it will elongate your legs and make you look tall and lean. This shoe is on sale at 40% off, and there are several different colors and styles to choose from. I am wearing the cognac suede, even though it looks much darker on the website.
Yep, I’m still carrying my Tory Burch McGraw handbag because it is so versatile and perfect for fall. This color is sold out, but a claret color is still available. However, I’ll see if I can find some similar options for you that are more affordable.
The only other thing I am wearing is my large hoop earrings. Usually, if I weren’t going to wear the scarf, I would have added a necklace to the outfit. Here are a few that I like, and I would have probably worn one of these.

Today’s “Simple” outfit is perfect for me except I wear petite and I can’t always find the items you show. I love the neutrals with a pop of color!! I enjoy your blog as a whole!! Thanks for sharing.
I love the plaid scarfs as well! The lower blocked heels are such a great option if you don’t wear high heels. One of my favorite outfits is a simple top/sweater with jeans. Love your blog. Have a great day!
I love that you are styling shoes that have lower heels. I can’t do “high” heels any more!
I need to be better at wearing some of my scarves this year as only a small window of opportunity here in Scottsdale! 😆
Love the casual but neat look of the jeans and scarf.
Love the sweater. Where are you in Virginia? I’m in Richmond.
I just had to let you know that I ordered the black dress from Kohl’s you showed us a couple of weeks ago and I also got it in the leopard print. Such a great price. I finally received them and I’m so happy with them. The quality is good and the fabric is nice. Thank you for letting us all know about them!
This outfit looks cozy and comfortable. I especially love the jeans!
Love the sweater and scarf! Also love this fall weather! Have a great week!
