2024 Winter Holiday Fashion Trends I Love
Can you believe it? The holidays are just around the corner! I’m already seeing festive lights going up, and you know what that means—it’s time to talk holiday fashion! This season has some amazing trends, and I’ve been keeping an eye out for what’s going to work best for us gals over 50. The best part? These styles are perfect for looking classy, feeling confident, and showing up with a little sparkle (or a lot, if you’re feeling it!). Let’s talk about the 2024 winter holiday fashion trends that are going to have you looking chic and festive for all those holiday gatherings. Here’s what’s in this year and how you can make each trend work for you!
2024 Winter Holiday Fashion Trends I Love
A Touch of Feathers
Yes, you heard that right—feathers! Now, don’t get worried; I’m not saying you have to wear a whole feathered outfit! This year, feathers are making a comeback in the cutest way, just as an accent on cuffs, collars, or hems.
Imagine a blouse with just a little feather detail on the cuffs or a pair of pants like the ones I’m wearing with a little feather trim. It’s fun, feminine, and has a bit of whimsy without going over the top. This trend is perfect for a holiday get-together or New Year’s Eve. Just keep the rest of your look simple, and let those feathers do the talking!
I don’t have a lot of feathers in my closet to show you gurls, but I do have this feather clutch that is so fun to pull out from time to time. I paired my clutch with these machine-washable pants that have a removable feather trim, but they are sold out. Here is a pair from Chico’s and one from Tuckernuck that are very similar!

Velvet
Okay, I have to say it—velvet is the queen of winter fabrics. There’s something about it that just screams holiday elegance! Velvet in rich colors like emerald, navy, and burgundy is everywhere this season, and it feels so luxe. Whether it’s a velvet blazer or even some velvet pants, this is one fabric that’s going to elevate your look instantly.
I fell in love with this black velvet button-front shirt. During the holidays, I like having items that look festive without being too fancy. Velvet is sooo luxurious feeling and look, and it is great to wear for winter celebrations. I would wear this to a friend’s casual Christmas party. Adding fun, sparkly jewelry or shoes can make the outfit fancier.
These are my velvet leggings from last year. You can wear them with flats, heels, or boots, and I love how versatile they are. They even look fantastic with a pair of knee-high boots!
I found this velvety blouse on my recent trip to Chico’s. You can see more from the try-on here. The top is thin and lightweight, so I’m wearing a raisin colored microfiber tank underneath it.
Here’s another velvet top I tried on in Chico’s. It is soft and velvety, and the banded hem fits around the hips. That creates a blouson look, which hides any lumps and bumps you might have in the tummy region. This is my kind of top!!!

Fair Isle
Ladies, if there’s one classic winter pattern that never goes out of style, it’s Fair Isle. This cozy knit pattern feels so nostalgic like you’re wrapped in a warm holiday hug. Fair Isle has been making a comeback in a big way this year, with updated colors and styles that are perfect for the holiday season.
One of my favorite ways to style Fair Isle is to pair a cozy sweater with dark jeans or even a long, flowing skirt. It’s a look that’s comfortable yet polished and works beautifully for everything from a holiday movie night at home to a casual get-together with friends.
Charcoal gray is huge this season, and I love it paired with the red and pink Fair Isle print. This makes for a casual holiday look but can be worn the entire winter season.
This Amazon Essentials sweater is so soft and comfy and comes in several different cute patterns. I’ve been a huge fan of FairIsle sweaters for years, and I love the shades of blue in this one. I’m wearing a medium, and it fits me great.

Gold and Rose Gold
Metallic gold and rose gold have been around for a few seasons, but this winter, it’s shining brighter than ever! They are perfect for the holiday season because they add just the right amount of glam without feeling over the top. Plus, it’s incredibly flattering on all skin tones, making it an easy choice for jewelry, accessories, and even clothing. I’m seeing lots of blush pinks paired with gold and rose gold, so I’m including some light pink items in this trend as well!
I love this jacket! It has so much personality, and I can’t wait to wear it with jeans, black velvet pants, ivory, you name it! I wore a cream turtleneck sweater underneath it, but you could wear something more sparkly to dress it up.
Here is an example of that pretty light pink that I’m seeing styled with the metallic golds and rose golds! I grabbed this sweater from Nordstrom. It also looks super pretty with chocolate browns if rose gold or metallic gold isn’t up your alley!

LOVE velvet and gold!
You look great in the pink v-neck blouse in the first photo…and very festive throughout! Do you have a link to link for the pink blouse? Thank you!
No, it is an old one I bought from CeCe.
Love sparkles and feathers for the holidays. The gold jacket is my favorite
Wow great ideas! I don’t dress up much, so I saved the ideas to my Pinterest board, I hope you don’t mind.
Velvet is so beautiful! The fair isle johnny collar sweater is very classy.
Velvet is so pretty for the holidays.
I like everything but the feathers. I have a velvet jacket and a lot of gold and some rose gold pieces. I wouldn’t mind velvet pants and a fair isle sweater.
Congratulations on getting your former house sold! The one holiday trend I am going to forgo is the feathers. I’ll just leave them for our feathered friends in our yard.
I love that gold fringed jacket on you.
Loving the gold coated ankle jeans- wish I had the body for them. I have always been attracted to silver but this year gold is drawing me. The gold “lady” jacket would look great with these pants.
I’ve always been a “gold” gal!
I love the velvet puffer vest!!
I guess it is true that some fashions repeat there selves from flapper dresses to today
One of my best memories of my mother is her making me a navy blue velvet dress. I loved that dress. So whenever I see velvet, she comes to my mind. I lost her last month. 93 yrs young! How blessed i was to have her for my 68 yrs of life!
It sounds like you have wonderful memories of her.
I am a big fan of velvet, too. So festive!
Love the velvet and Fair Isle!
I have a black velvet dress from Chicos, never goes out of style!
I love wearing velvet for the holidays! Hopefully it will get cool enough to wear it this year in Texas!
It’s The Season to Dress Up… yay
I love this time of the year!
Just ordered the Free People sweater. Love it!!!
I have always love velvet since I was a little girl. I love anything made of velvet.
Love the feathers, you look so festive!
I’m loving all the feathers and velvet!!! So many pretty things! Happy Saturday ❤️❤️❤️
Tania, once upon a time, I had the same pottery bowl and fruit sitting in my kitchen!
The blue fair isle sweater is calling my name.
Wow! I am excited about today’s post. I love that you keep us “in the know” on trends. I am a classic dresser, but I love throwing in some trends. I bought a pretty pale pink feather necklace this summer while on vacation. I saw myself wearing it with a long solid color sweater for fall and winter. I bought a fair isle sweater for this season in navy, pink, and purple tones. You look so pretty in the velvet black pants and animal print shoes. Thanks for the post! I appreciate your advice and updates .
All of these beautiful holiday clothes! 💓I love the dark Hunter velvet shirt or in black. As you said, can easily dress up or down. I’ve always been a fair isle sweater fan. I own quite a few of them.
Tania, where is your beautiful pink blouse in the first photo from? Thank you!
Karlee, it was one from CeCe that I bought last year.
I have the Talbots half zip and the sweater cardi already! I also have the Kate cardigans in most all the colors. I would recommend all of them they are gorgeous ! Thanks so much for this post!
Tania….I cracked up with you said “I can’t imagine why my 11 year old granddaughter wouldn’t want a heavy pottery bowl with fruit. Lol!” I enjoy your introduction photos and humor before your posts. Yes, the Holidays are around the corner. You need to get Lucy Lu a feather bow or something to match your attire ☺️. The velvet is a must for me. I have kept several classic pieces in my closet for years. You can dress it up or make it casual…very versatile. Enjoy your weekend.

I love velvet, thank you for the ideas of how to wear it, including velvet leggings. I had had my spanx leggings for several years, and keep thinking it’s time to donate, then I see your blog and decide to keep them. Have a blessed weekend!
Love the fair isle sweater from Lands’ End! The bright preppy pink with green trees “speaks to me”. Too bad it’s completely sold out because I would SO buy it! Thanks for all your suggestions!
love love love those Fairisle sweaters!!! And the velvet, so warm and pretty!
I love the feathers!
Hummm, I wonder if I should order the feather pants for my sorority Christmas party….
Oooh, that would be a fun place to wear them.
Beautiful collections of so many items & lol about the bowl of fruit!
No feathers, but velvet is a favorite. Thanks for the post and all the ideas.
I know Fair Isle is loved by many. Just not me.
