WOULD YOU LET YOUR HUSBAND PICK YOUR OUTFIT, PT. 2

Last week, I shared with all of you how I had given my husband a Talbot’s catalog, and I asked him to pick out a few outfits for me. The outfit last week he picked was a complete surprise for me; it did not seem to be his taste. Today’s outfit was an even bigger surprise because I honestly hated it when I saw what he had picked.

In fact, I didn’t even notice this black and white printed dress when I looked through the catalog, and I had looked through it several times. The dress did not stand out to me, so his pick was a shock. I even asked him if he was sure that the dress was what he wanted me to order.
This is the photo from the catalog!

He shook his head enthusiastically and said, “I think this will look great on you!” UGH! I was not happy about his pick, and I even considered NOT ordering it when I ordered some of “my” picks. However, a deal is a deal, so I ordered the dress as I muttered under my breath, “this is going to be a disaster!”

When the box arrived, I hurriedly tried on the first outfit that he picked out. It was one that I had also picked, and I was kind of surprised that I liked it, but I didn’t LOVE it. The individual items were fine, but I didn’t love them when worn together. Then, I grudgingly decided to try on the dress. HOLD THE FRONT DOOR!!! This dress was so flattering, so feminine, and I was thrilled with the way that it fit me!

The flutter sleeves are cute, and they hide a lot of my upper arm, which is not a bad thing. The fit and flare style is also very flattering, and it helps create curves for this ruler-shaped body of mine. A v-neck is always my choice for a neckline, but the added contrasting print of the dress brings your eye to that area which elongates the neck even more!
I ordered my usual size 12 in the dress, and it fits like it was made especially for me!

I added a quilted black handbag and a pair of beige and white Rockport heels to my look. The black handbag has sold out in black, but it is still available in navy, red, and taupe, which would look great with the heels. The white and beige version is almost sold out, but I found a black version that has sizes available, and it is at a huge discount. These heels run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 9.
Talbots is having their first-ever SPRING Red Hanger Sale. I went shopping and grabbed some things for myself, and here are a few items that I thought you might love.

I am not sure who got the last laugh with this experiment, me or Joe. When I came out to show him the dress and told him that I LOVED how it looked on me, he was not surprised at all. He said, “I’m a man; we know what looks good on women.” I am not sure that is the case, or if it was just beginner’s luck, but I have to admit that I would NOT have ordered this if he hadn’t picked it out.
So, what do you think? Would this dress have caught your eye if you had seen the photo in the catalog?
Ladies, you know that I am always asking you to sign up for my daily emails, and you need to make sure that you have done that. I will be sending out a “special” Saturday email in addition to my normal daily post, which will include some daily finds, items that I’ve just ordered, and maybe a tutorial or two. You can sign up here so that you never miss a thing.
I love this dress on you. I have a similar v neck polka dot dress. So we can wear these dresses according to Joe and look good! LOL
I really like it! My husband of 36 years (and who sounds a lot like Joe) decided to pick out my dress for our rehearsal dinner 36 years ago. He was so proud of himself, and I still remember him showing me the dress – it was off white and was a beautiful flowy fabric, but it had a pleated skirt and a bronze satin belt. I would have NEVER picked it out. I tried it on, in the back of my mind thinking that it would look hideous and he’d agree we needed to return it. To my surprise and his delight, it looked great and I loved it!!! I got so many compliments on it, and have saved it all of these years. Even though it no longer fits it always makes me smile and reminds me to get out of my comfort zone!
I have to agree with Karen – I LOVE the dress, just too high of a price tag for me! But it is so flattering on you – maybe when it goes on sale??? I don’t know if I’m brave enough for this experiment, but I just might try it and ask my husband to pick something out for me!
Dress is beautiful on you. Great job Joe!
