WORRYING ROBS TODAY OF ITS HAPPINESS

I have been reading the daily devotional by Sarah Young called “Jesus Calling.” I like this devotional but I have started noticing how many of the devotions are devoted to worrying. Obviously, this must be a trait that many of us share, I thought I was by myself. I struggle with being a worry wart and I even worry about worrying.

On March 16th the devotion smacked me a little. It said this,

Don’t take yourself so seriously. Lighten up and laugh with me. You have Me on your side, so what are you worried about?

That says it all, doesn’t it? Worry will weigh us down until we feel overwhelmed and helpless. I have a little suction cup stuck to my window that has this saying hanging from it, “Worrying robs today of its happiness.”

Did you know there is a difference between worry and concern? Worrying does nothing, concern makes a plan. Worrying is debilitating and causes you to give up hope. A concerned person will persevere and pinpoint the problem. “I have no money to pay my bills” versus “I am not going to have enough money to pay the bills this month. I better sell something.”

But what if the problem is out of your control? What if there is nothing “you” can do to help the situation? How do you handle those situations? Call out to the Lord, whisper His name, lean on Him.

Psalm 18:2

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalm 46:1-2

God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

As usual, I am writing this message for me. I will be flying on Monday and returning on Saturday. I really hate flying and a lot of the reason is a lack of control. I cannot control the maintenance of the airplane or the competence of the pilot. I cannot control the weather or the other passengers that will be onboard the plane with me. Worrying will solve nothing. Concern only lets me check an airline’s safety rating and choose one that has a good record. Calling on the Lord to be with me and to deliver me safely is the path I am choosing. He is my rock, He is my fortress, He is my deliverer.

Please say a small prayer for me as I travel this coming week.

Have A Blessed Day.

Tania – I am such a worrier too! I love your post and I also have the book Jesus Calling and I love it! I also just recently bought God’s Words of Life for Women and I read from both daily. I am trying really hard to stop the worrying because it doesn’t change anything.

I have a friend who has told me that worrying is a sign of our sinful nature. We do not rely completely on God’s wisdom, guidance and perfect will. We do all that we can and leave the rest up to Him. God bless.
